In another blow to Rad Power Bikes, the CPSC issued a notice for customers to stop using their batteries: https://www.cpsc.gov/Warnings/2026/CPSC-Warns-Consumers-to-Immediately-Stop-Using-Batteries-for-E-Bikes-from-Rad-Power-Bikes-Due-to-Fire-Hazard-Risk-of-Serious-Injury-or-Death

It seems like Rad Power Bikes thinks that their batteries or fine. Post any additional findings below.

We have 4 Rad bikes, 2 minis purchased 4 years ago and 2 R runner plus models.  The two minis are primarily used when we travel and both have the S1304 codes. My wife's RR + is just over 2 years old and that bikes battery also has the code. The RR+ that I ride was new in Jan 2021 and has over 20K miles, the battery has been charged hundreds of times (after every daily ride) The newer RR+ has 6-7000 miles and that battery has been charged daily. We have seen no battery degradation on any of the 4 bikes. At this time I have no concerns with any of the 4 batteries. It will be interesting to hear what other owners are saying about their experience.

We have 2 2020 bikes where the batteries work fine today.  Even though I love my bike, I am concerned to buy another RAD bike.  I dont want to buy a bike when they reccomended that you discard your battery.  Worse, I dont want a fire.  I will want to buy a bike. Im sorry for RAD bike company.

Glad to hear you are not the only satisfied Rad customer - I am The Roaming Radrunner and believe in the build quality of my Radrunner 1.  Ride rad

I have very old Rad bikes - a 2017 Mini and a 2018 Wagon. As I understand it, these bikes are not affected by the notice. Are there any issues with a SP2018 etc model battery?

Own 2 Rad Rover 6+ purchased in late 2021 and 2 Radster Trail purchased this past June.  Both batteries are visually identical but the more recent Radster Trail bikes have the smart shield and they feel like better quality.  They also have the UL stamp on them.

Even though the older RAD-S1304Y batteries are not part of the warning they do have similar construction by the same manufacturer as those listed.  Should I consider upgrading to the newer 15AH for the Rad Rover 6+.

Thanks in Advance

I have a Radcity 5 plus with a RAD-S1034Y. I also noticed the similarity in the code, so decided not to take any chances and purchased a Safe Shield Advanced semi-integrated battery and charger. Better being safe than sorry. My bike have done 13,000 km and is running well, so there no need to replace it.

Hi
In Rads feedback they mention they are offering their customers the Safe Shield batteries at a discount?
I never saw this offer, is it still available and how much was the discounted offer?
I gave two Expand 5's and have had no issues with my batteries.
If Rad does have a solution for their customers I'd like to hear about it

We have two Rad Mini 2, that we use when Camping. Generally speaking we have been very pleased with them. When we purchased them in 2021, we also considered the "lectric Foldable Model" but bought the Rad because of the Removable Battery Feature and because of the Fit/Finish was, in our opinion better. In addition we thought the Rad Company has a better reputation?
Although we are not particularly Happy with the overall situation, i.e. the Bankruptcy/Battery issue, there is not much we can do about it at this point in time. Because both of our Bikes have the questionable Batteries, we have elected to replace them with new Batteries Kits, that include the Batt/Mounting Plate/Charger, at a cost of around $350.00 each. The "Resale Value of Rad Bikes" is going to be impacted in a Big Way without the Batteries being replaced, IMHO. We bought them from "Electro Bike World,"  although I wish I did more HomeWork before I made this decision. The reason is 1-Battery not UL Listed, 2- Battery On/Off switch not controlled by the Key Switch. I assume there are better alternatives. BTW, the job on a scale of 1-10, is a 5.

This is important news. Does anyone have more information about how Rad Power responds or the battery recall program that they could share here?
