While it took a couple of weeks of charging our phones and tablets here and there I am happy to report our Rad Wagon battery now shows 3/5 bars. I feel much better about winter storage of the battery now.

Rad recommends that the lithium battery be stored at around 50% capacity. Our Wagon battery wasn't completely full but still had 5 bars when we stopped riding it early November. I'm now trying to (slowly) discharge the battery by using it to charge other devices around the house. I imagine this will take quite some time but there has to be another way. I don't want to ride it outside since there is salt on our roads but perhaps that is my best option. We will see how this experiment goes [emoji3]

Great photo. As I viewed this, I had the beginings of an idea I call "active passenger regen": a device where the passenger could treadle a small battery charger to extend the range of the Radwagon to partially compensate for the decreased range as a result of the increased vehicle weight added by the passenger.

Thanks! People who are unaware its electric are often surprised there are no rear pedals. I'm having some serious Rad withdrawals with our bike all cooped up inside.

General Chat / Cell Phone Holder for Rad

Does anyone have strong opinions on a specific handlebar mount for a smartphone? I saw the one Rad promotes (https://bit.ly/2z743Gj) is $59 and there are tons of options on Amazon. Is the RAM worth the extra cost?

General Chat / Thoughts on Rad Power Bikes Front Baskets
December 18, 2018, 06:51:50 AM
As I've been staring at my bike in our family room (it's winter here in Wisconsin) I've been thinking about what I might want to add as far as accessories next year. The front baskets come to mind but they come at a steep price. Typically we use a rear basket when we need to haul things. Curious what those who have the front baskets think.

Is there a recommended lock to secure your Rad Wagon outside while away?  Does the length/size make some locks a better fit?  What are YOU using?

This is what we have been using. Even the smaller one is long enough to lock two bikes if you get them close together. I don't think there is any perfect bike lock, but this is what I decided on a couple of years ago. Note it is somewhat large and heavy and we don't live in a big city where bike theft is prevalent. Oh and welcome to the forum!

I have done several mods on my Radwagon: home made ront rack, rear waterbottle moint, added a rear perimeter small diameter tubing rack under the rear wooden deck for mounting panniers. Added six Drings per side to the rear running boards as mounting points for lashing loads or cargo net hold downs. I moved the headlamp up to the handlebar stem so the light still follows the front wheel and gives better illumination. Rad's front rads moves the heAdlamp to the rack where it no longer follows the front wheel movement.

I think we need a video walk-around just to detail all of these mods  ;D

A reuglar L shaped Allen wrench can easily be modified to use for adjusting the inner stationary brake pad. Simply cut or grind down the short leg of the wrench to gain the needed wrench clearance.

Great tip! For me I just remove the darn thing.

There are a few products I am aware of produced by Rad owners. You can view our full accessories page here: https://www.radowners.com/index.php/topic,104.0.html

The first is a skid plate to protect the Rad Rover which protects the cables underneath the bike. If you take your Rad Rover off road you may want to consider this. They often sell out on eBay, but you can view an old listing here and see if any are available by the seller: https://www.ebay.com/itm/RAD-ROVER-RHINO-Skid-Plate-Rock-Guard-Impact-Brush-Rock-BLACK/183943511968?hash=item2ad3e33fa0:g:XIUAAOSwW1Jc9bn7

The second is a brake adjuster tool which allows you to adjust your brakes without taking off the rear brake on the Rad City. I believe it will also work on the Rad Wagon, but haven't confirmed myself.

He also sells a license plate adapter which is kind of a fun way to customize your Rad. (Scroll down the page on the link below to view the brake adjuster and license plate adapter)

Rad Modifications / Cargo Rack Add-ons for the Rad Wagon
December 06, 2018, 10:00:18 AM
Our most often used accessory for our Rad Wagon has been a crate with holes. It holds well with just two or three bungee cords and still allows a passenger on the back. Typically we put a tarp underneath to protect the wood deck which could also serve as a bike cover in an emergency. In one of the pictures below we managed to find a cooler that fits perfectly into the crate which we use for grocery shopping or packing a picnic lunch. When we're really hauling a lot, we use a backpack and a messenger bag in addition to the crate which sit nicely on the running boards (no need real pannier bags, at least for us). We use a rope to attach the handles which holds them in place.

Curious to what others use with their Rad Wagon.

I have noticed a few members of the Rad community that have built custom add-ons and wanted to create a centralized place for them to share their products. I invite those who have these products to share them below.

General Chat / Discuss 2019 Rad Power Bike Models
December 05, 2018, 04:44:20 PM
Last year when I saw the changes coming to the 2018 Rad Wagon I knew it was worth the wait to get the 2018 versus the 2017. I do like some of the changes coming to 2019, mainly the new tire liners and moving down to just a 7-speed (at least for us). As a 2018 owner I am very glad they kept the same battery and I expect they will make more significant changes in 2020.

Service & Repair / Re: Assembly
December 05, 2018, 04:33:09 PM
Thanks for sharing. While I didn't have this exact issue I did have to grease up some of the bolts for the handle when attaching it on my Wagon. I think there were some particles inside which was making it difficult.

One of the concerns I had when we bought our Rad Wagon was warranty and repair. Before we purchased I did a lot of reading of those who had to work with Rad for a warranty repair and they were all positive experiences. Over the summer I was going through the bike and noticed one of the bolts attaching the rear disc brake to the motor wouldn't tighten. Since it screws directly into the motor there isn't anything you can do outside of replacing the entire wheel. I contacted Rad who asked for a video which I sent along. They promptly sent me a replacement wheel under warranty.

Spring 2019 we'll be coming up on the one year mark which means anything else that goes wrong will be out of pocket, but the nice thing is that I'll be able to purchase any individual parts. Still cheaper than car ownership!

Pride & Joy / Our 2018 Rad Wagon
December 03, 2018, 08:55:27 AM
One of the reasons we decided to buy a Rad Wagon versus the other models was being able to both ride it. Only on the steepest of hills does the passenger have to get off the bike temporarily. We've even been able to do a pretty large grocery run with both of us on it as well. I think by now a lot of people have seen us in the community and we get lots of looks  :o The versatility made the Wagon the best choice for us.
