General Chat / Fire Proof Battery Box
June 14, 2022, 09:25:31 AM
I've heard of way too many e-bike battery fires lately. Anyone have any experience with a fire proof battery box or bag? This would be for the storage and charging of the battery when not in use.

I don't think this article relates to e-bike buyers. hardcore bicyclists want the hard saddles that go with their padded bike shorts and neon. normal people want cushy seats to cruise on.

wife got a rad city step thru. first time e-bike. love it! so i'll probably get a radrover next year for myself.

i have the new rad city. its not the best on steep hills. i definitely struggle getting up some of them. if i could do it again i'd go rover or better yet a mid drive bike. unfortunately i don't have the wallet for a mid drive which is apparently the best for hills.

swagman e-spec black holds two bikes at 70lbs each. you can remove the batteries but i'm not sure if the battery terminals can handle getting rained on without the battery there?

No you don't need it. I never used them. Just tighten them up and have fun.

I highly doubt the bikes are test ridden before being shipped. my motor was shot right from the start. the brakes were also tightly squeezing the disk and needed major adjustment. once things get sorted the bikes are great. they definitely should have better quality control because this stuff can turn away a lot of customers.

update 2 - received the new motor/rear wheel in the mail yesterday. turned out to be super easy to swap out so i didn't need a shop tech. so far so good. looking forward to spending some time on it.

same problem here. thule easyfold xt2 is the front runner for me but its $1000! it does have a built in ramp to get the bikes on and its the only one i can find that will properly hold a step thru frame with wheel fenders.

so the only one I've found that ticks most of the boxes is the Thule easy fold xt2. built for weight of bikes, clamps down on frame (including step thru style). works with fenders. but man its expensive and it only holds two bikes. euro version has a 3 bikes for some reason?

General Chat / Re: Canadian Bikes changed to 750w

thanks for the reply. I'll probably just go with the Bolton controller upgrade once the warranty has run its course. the 500watt city is a dog going up hills...

cheers

I assumed they're the same parts, motor, controller etc, but software locked to max out at 500watts.
