General Chat / Re: Pabst Blue Ribbon????

Yes... what could go wrong except for the fact that one displays great taste in bikes, while displaying horrible taste in beer....

Perhaps we should not worry too much. Certainly no one really drinks that stuff......

A rather weird collaboration in my opinion and Pabst beer of all brands.  Just seems totally out of place and character for a Seattle based bike company with an emphasis on Seattle.  Do you think they even tried the beer before embarking on this endeavor?

General Chat / Re: Most comfortable seat?

I tried this MSDADA seat from Amazon and so far, after 100 miles +,  I have been really happy with it.  It has ample padding for me (6ft,175lbs) and it seems to have a bit longer rail on the bottom which allows for a greater degree of adjustment horizontally, front to back.  With the adjustable stem that I have I have moved my position a bit more upright and further back.

Altema,

A well written, detailed and useful review.  I greatly appreciated your impressions about the drivability and overall behavior of the bike after the modifications.  Given my ride style and the terrain I am in, I think I will just keep the bike controller stock. However, I am grateful for you taking the time to spell things out so that I could make a better decision.

RadRover / Re: Handlebar stem riser?
November 01, 2020, 12:06:15 PM
Mudder,

I ordered this one for my Rover 5 from Amazon and it is great.  It does raise the handle bar about a half inch but more importantly for me it allows the handle bars to be tilted exactly where i want them.  Was shipped super fast, like in three days and you can choose either a 90mm or 110mm.  You can also play with the risers already on the Rover if you need too.

Rad Modifications / Re: Ergon grips

Irish Rad,

Thanks for the info and photos of the Ergon grips and the info on what model to get for a Rad. Did you have any trouble removing the originals and then mounting these grips?  What about the end caps?  Thanks,

TDR,

I experimented with 875 different positions (ok, slight exaggeration) before I got things to where I felt comfortable. From my perspective it's a combination to seat height, seat tilt, and handle bar height and rake.  I also have the suspension seat post from Rad and I installed an adjustable stem.  The adjustable stem has made a great difference for me and allowed me to dial in a perfect position which is more upright, less pressure on the arms, more pressure at the rear of the seat where the padding is.  But, you have to play with it. I just rode for a few miles, adjusted things then rode some more, made adjustments and I finally got things right.  It really doesn't take much adjustment as just a few mm one way or another makes a big difference.

What Rad model do you have?

General Chat / Re: Cheap paint job

I would echo Altema's comments and say I have over 400 miles on my Rover 5 with a rear rack and I have no problems with the paint anywhere.  Not a nick or scratch or paint rubbing off.

General Chat / Re: Lets track delivery schedules
October 04, 2020, 03:17:57 PM

It would appear from reading these posts that Rad is shortening its delivery schedule and getting their bikes out a couple of weeks earlier than what was happening in July/Aug.  That is great and I hope for new Rad owners that will continue.  Now, if we could just get some of the options/accessories back in stock that would also be great.

I can just imagine the trials the Rad folks are going through, what with the pandemic, fires, suppliers issues, customers, etc., it must be a challenge just to get through a workday.  My hat is off to them......

Thanks for the photo of the light.... I am not an electrical engineer but I would say it should have a minuscule affect on the battery, certainly not much more than the stock light, thanks to LED's.

I like to keep my handle bar as clutter free as possible so a light mounted on it is out of the question. I do have a mirror mounted on it but that already has saved me twice so I will not complain about having that.

Doing some simple math, Rad says the optional light at 500 lumens, is "more" than twice as bright as the stock headlight.  I would be getting it just to be seen better rather than a light for night riding.  It's probably a silly upgrade I know.

Did the lights you got on Amazon plug into the Rad battery or were they self powered?  Are you doing night riding with it? 2,400 lumens should light up a football field.....
