I'd also be interested in what you end up purchasing. Please share when you decide!

Oh I am so excited to hear about how much you love it! I have found since buying my rad I tend to bike more places than I would have previously driven. Win win for your health and the environment!! As for accessories I would say the top ones for a beginner would be a helmet and a side mirror. Have fun!!

Hello Everyone,

I started getting interested again (looked a few years back) in Dec about getting a Rad Bike.  The White Sold Out and the Black had 75 on Dec 18th, and by the 21st the Sold Out of ALL RadRovers.

They had a great deal to buy gift cards at 10% off, so I figured out what I would need and bought 16/$100 GC's for $1,440.  I wanted to WAIT on the 2019's in case they changed 2020 and they Did. Albeit, not that much changed, but I got Free Fenders now and I was ordering those anyway and now I don't have to jack with installing.  I ordered a Rear Rack as my only option and got $100, so $260 off total was pretty good for the new 2020.

I got a BLACK (considered White and thought it looked sharp with tan handles/seat, but decided to go with the Mean Looking Black).  They won't ship it said until February 2020 sometime?  I think they are shipping my Rear Rack now, they put it on HOLD because I asked them to. I was THINKING of getting an Orange Rear Rack on the Black Bike, to give it some contrast, but decided black fit better.

So, I have never ridden a RAD and don't currently have or ride a bike.  I bought a Plate off eBay that attaches and covers the bottom components to protect them and it got great reviews and is solid.

Not sure what MODS are a must, or recommended?  I am 6 feet tall and about 195 lbs. I bought this bike just to have fun riding, get some exercise, and give me the confidence to go farther so I don't get stranded 10 miles from home, tired. Ha Ha

I am excited and glad I waited for 2020.  They sold the RadCity StepThrough and a few others last week to Clear Out Stock, for $999! Great Deal for those that wanted those.

Have a Great 2020!

Curious how young riders take their children on the bike? I'm considering wearing my little one when I ride, but a bit worried I will be looked down upon. In my opinion cars are plenty dangerous too.

Another semi silly question. Why do people buy the mini bikes? Is it so you can bring them traveling in your trunk since you don't have a bike rack? Is it cause they look so super cool? Cause they do! Just curious on this...

I recently received my new Mini and will be ordering a Mini Step-thru when they become available...I have probably the dumbest question ever asked on here :) what is the wide Velcro strap for that comes with the bike? I assume it's to secure it when folded but cannot find that information to be sure.
Thanks!

I love the cloud 9 seat!

I just want to report back that according to my wife the Cloud 9 seat is a game changer. It has kind of put off our decision to buy a suspension seatpost. I unknowingly had a gel style Cloud 9 seat just sitting in my garage and I didn't have to adjust the rails at all for it to fit. If you're at all uncomfortable on the seat it's worth a shot!

General Chat / Re: 16 mile one way commute
January 05, 2020, 08:50:43 PM
Yes you can! I commute to work and it is the best way to start and end your day. When you get home you are already decompressed from work and ready to start the evening. Love the fresh air!!!!  :)

What did you end of getting and how is the commute going?

So 32 miles a day. I'd pedal some getting there for sure, but since I stand most of the day, I'd probably want to throttle back. It's relatively flat. I weigh 230lbs.  Would the RadRunner work well for me. I'm curious doing that kind of mileage 4 days a week, how it will hold up. Also, can you increase max speed (what is it realistically).

Thanks for thoughts!

I originally said rad rover. Edited it to reflect what I meant - Rad Runner.

Love this! Do you wear any high visibility gear in the dark? Or add more lights than just the front and rear? I don't know how much cars are expecting to see a biker out in the middle of winter and am hesitant to ride at night in the dark. These days it gets dark so early though...

By better performance does this mean faster? Quicker pick up? Or will make your battery last longer? It just hit cold temps here and I can tell the battery goes down much quicker than in the summer.

I don't have experience with the Bolton upgrade kits for Rad Power Bikes but I'm excited to hear your thoughts since I have a Wagon as well. Please keep sharing updates. For those members who might not know about this kit it basically provides more amps to the motor for better performance.

What would be the benefit of getting rid of the on/off button? I rarely use the throttle and keep it off most of the time. I like that I won't accidentally activate it.

What is different with the new 2020 "streamlined throttle" ?  Any pictures yet ?
I got an answer today, they got rid of the on/off button. Interesting...

Here are a couple of other things I got answered regarding the 2020 Rad Power Bikes models:

The RadMini tires are now the same that are on our RadRunner model. They are slightly smaller (now 20" x 3.3" compared to the previous 20" x 4"), but still with a high load rating and puncture resistant liners.

The handlebars (various models) create a more comfortable riding position.

Anyone pre-order the new RadRover Step-Thru? I'm hoping to get one to review at some point.

This looks so cool! But when I watch the video it almost looks like you have to lift the front end of the bike. I have a wagon. Think it would be doable for a strong female to do? :)

I love love love having a mirror on my bike. In the area that I bike, I unfortunately have to ride on the sidewalk on a busy street. The mirror is very helpful when I am crossing an entryway to a business. It is crazy how many people either do not wait for bikes or do not look for bikes. Currently I only have one mirror on the left handlebar. Does anyone have a mirror on both sides? At times, I wish I did, but not sure how helpful it would be.

General Chat / Re: Cell Phone Holder for Rad

It drives me nuts there is not a clock on the display of the Radwagon. I ride to work and many times I am cutting it close to getting there on time. I would love a cell phone holder to see the time easily. It would be helpful as well if I wanted to enter in a destination on a map app.

I ride a 2018 Radwagon and often carry heavy loads.. I ride in a very hilly coastal area and ride about 95% of the time without using electric power. One of the essential features, for me, is the 21 speed gearset. I try to maintain a constant cadence when I ride. This would not be possible with a seven speed radwagon the way I ride. To me, the reduced gearset on the 2019 Radwagon is not an improvement.

I also live in a hilly area and do not carry a lot of weight. I seem to use only  a few gears always and adjust the power when I need a bit more help. The gear changes are not always super smooth so I try to avoid changing them excessively.

I saw this video and thought it was pretty cool. It's a guy in Chicago delivering UberEats with a RadRover. Looks like he's got a pretty nice setup with a rear bag that holds food and drinks. I imagine this is far more profitable when you're doing it on an electric bike compared to a car in bigger cities. At the end he shows he made $140 for around 7 hours of work. Enjoy!

Oh gosh! That looks amazing. I live in a smaller town and we barely have delivery anywhere. This would be such a FUN job!

I have two different carriers for the front of my Radwagon. I made an aluminium front rack which attaches to the factory threaded inserts. I have a flat bottomed oval shaped basket made from elephant grass and goat leather. This was purchased new at a street fair for twenty dollars. It was made in Ghana. I use this basket during dry weather. In the rainy weather, I use a pack cloth, Yamaha brand, motorcycle saddlebag. I bought this new at a thriftstore for three dollars, but the list price in $125. Both containers fit on my front rack. I repositioned the front headlight to mount on the handlebar stem(gooseneck). This puts the headlamp in an improved location and allows it to move with the front wheel. The Rad solution is to mount the headlamp on the rack which is too low in my opinion, and the lamp beam no longer follows the wheel travel, so during the intial part of a turn, the area in front of the bike is not illuminated.

Do you notice any difficulty in steering or control of the bike with the basket and/or weight in the front basket? I have a Radwagon as well.
