Probably not an issue. It might depend on where you're going, like if people in the area have recently been complaining about wild-eyed youths hopped-up on goofballs, screaming along multi-use paths on Surrons and the like.

In my area, a little town of 6,099 souls surrounded by farms, I've never heard of anybody's ebike being checked for Class 2 compliance.

But if you got involved in an accident and attention is then directed to the ebike, it might get dicey. I really have no idea.

That is the strangest thing.
Otherwise, I would've suggested checking out the adjustment of the motor cut-off switch built into the right brake lever. It's in the vicinity of the throttle, and if the cut-off switch is just on the threshold of switching off, it may be jostled by twisting the throttle.

A voltage can be applied to a motor, but you can't really "apply wattage" to the motor.
Wattage is a measure of Power, and Power = Voltage x Current

For a watt meter to work, some current has to be going through something and then multiplied by the voltage to get power in watts, unlike with a volt meter which can measure voltage across an open circuit.

In this case, it may be that the current is passing through something other than the motor, but which the controller assumes is the motor. Some kind of short circuit in the wiring perhaps, or some path through the motor that does not result in it turning.

RadWagon / Radwagon Cargo 2019? replaceme...
Last post by CanadianBrickCafe - April 27, 2024, 06:49:50 PM
Hello everyone, I hope you are all in high spirits today.

My Radwagon will not start so I am here to get some advice, I tried reseating all the cables as well as cleaning all the connections with no luck

after hours of Googling several people mentioned it may be the controller. LSW765-28-5FB-19 x19060006322 so I purchased an upgrade kit from...
https://www.affordableebikes.ca/products/radpower-controller-lcd-display-upgrade-35a-controller-kit?variant=43797810905242&currency=CAD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&srsltid=AfmBOoqZPkMWrdcedymHcgCMid-TyEHlfpSTT5YQaPq_wfNEl6JMLY3MHys

I hired Velofix come by today to install the upgraded controller I noted above but they had the same issue I was having before with the new controller kit. I hired them as I wanted paperwork showing I hired a "Professional" Bike repair person to do the installation for warranty.

This didn't fix the issue and I have the same problem. So I am thinking now it may be the wire harness. But I am also thinking if I am going to get a new wire-harness I might as well also finish the upgrades and replace the motor (Shengyi Hybrid) Direct Drive motor ? with something better.

The reason why I want to get these upgrades is because this e-bike has a very hard time getting up hills here in Burnaby BC Canada, more often than not I have to get off the bike and walk up the hill.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, I would prefer ordering from a Canadian source vs ordering from our friends south of the border in the USA due to high shipping and border-related fees.

Thanks in advance

No the battery is easy to remove and during my diagnosis I did check the connector for damage of any kind but it's all fine.

Coming up from the states with a RadRover6 Plus... If I stay under 32kph/20/mph, will I be ok with my American spec bike? Is it an issue?

you may have burned the wiring on the cradle where the battery plugs in.  It happened to me.  I tend to use throttle a lot and I have an upgraded controller so I send lots of juice through it.

I replaced the connectors on both the battery and the cradle.

Is your battery difficult to remove?  If so then it is a sure sign that you have burned the wiring.  Rads wiring is smaller than it should be.

General Chat / Rad Mini intermittent motor po...
Last post by BarryR - April 27, 2024, 03:24:29 PM
Every once in a while my rad mini motor loses power. When applying throttle the motor weakly moves a short distance then stops. If I rotate the rear wheel backwards a little and re-apply throttle the motor does the same thing. On the 2 previous occurrences of this issue it fixed itself but the latest occurrence did not fix itself. After a few days of unsuccessful diagnosis I accidentally bumped the cables under the pedal crank and suddenly the motor started working again.

I inspected the cables and connectors but found no damage and all the connectors were fully seated. I wiggled the cables and connectors, I took the bike for a test ride but the bike worked perfectly again. I suspect that maybe the cable or the connector between the battery cradle and the controller has a problem but until I can recreate the problem I can't be sure of which cable is causing the problem.

What is strange is that when this happens there is no power loss to the rest of the bike. The Display remains on, the lights work, the brake light works when squeezing the brake handles and when applying throttle the display shows wattage being applied to the motor which in itself is kind of strange because the motor isn't running.

Has anyone seen these the same or similar symptoms and figured out what is causing this?

you should put more information about the bike.  what year is the bike?  and which model?  There are more than one model of the city bike.  photos are best to have.  Also Facebook marketplace is a good place to list them too.

RadRunner / Rad Runner - green paint (RAL)...
Last post by RadOST - April 27, 2024, 02:24:39 AM
Howdy,

New member here.  :D
I've had the Radrunner for over 2 years now. Overall I'm pretty happy.
However I have a paint issue. I already have some scratches (my fault) and a "bad paint" on the steel fork (please, see picture), that I would like to tackle.

My questions are: does anybody know the green color number by RAL standard?
Does Rad Power Bikes have a paint spray for sale with that paint, may be?
Is it a matte or a satin paint?

Any ideas about the paint job and repair would be highly appreciated. Thanks.  :)

Are you assuming that your battery is dead? Have you actually used a new charger and it failed to charge?

Have you taken the battery out of the frame and physically inspected it for damages?
If I have to replace the battery and it turned out not the cause of the problem, I would be pretty upset.
