curious as to where you live - many cities require kids to wear helmets on bikes, even if they don't require adults to do the same.

Alpharetta Georgia.

tell me why you don't wear one.
I was out recently and a couple on Aventons passed me. The "dad" was pulling what appeared to be a 3 or 4 year old in one of those cute trailer things. She had no helmet on, the dad had no helmet, the mom had no helmet. Spent probably $4K on bikes but no helmets. They were riding near where I live which has very heavy, very rude and very unsafe drivers. I did a Phil from Groundhog Day and caught up with the mom who was trailing behind. Explained that is was none of my business but that kid needed a helmet and so did she. I told her you are riding a motorized vehicle and bad things can happen very quickly. Explained how I knew because both of my sons were hit by cars and the helmets probably saved their brains. She kept going I know, I know. If that kid had been on the back of a motorcycle the law here would have made in mandatory that she wear a helmet. What's the difference? The ER docs call it job security.

Took a bad fall 9/25/23 riding my RadCity 5+ Step Thru.
What caused the mishap?
Let me guess ? was it a U-turn?

Well, that's lucky for you to have that resource, if they're nearby.

Not a Uturn. trying to cross a sidewalk with a tall lip on it. incredibly stupid move in retrospect.was going about 15 front wheel grabbed the outside lip and basically threw me down full weight on my ankle. I was about 15 feet from the side of the road just laying there foot aimed the wrong direction. A lot of cars passed before 2 very kind souls pulled over. My phone was out of reach but they stayed with me until my son came to take me to the hospital.

Took a bad fall 9/25/23 riding my RadCity 5+ Step Thru. Broke both ankle bones on right side. Finally got ok from surgeon literally 100 days later to get back on the bike. I'm 71 and overweight so it was an ordeal to say the least. Still some pain at times. Doctor said it would take a year for full healing. I have a feeling it will always bark in cold weather. Bike suffered broken rear brake lever. $75.00 for the part more for install. Also the cage protecting the deraileur was really bent. Tech said it saved the derailleur. While I was at it replaced tires with Schwalbe Johnny Watt 27.5 X 2.35. More of an SUV type tire and had to modify fender connections to get them in there. I wanted bigger tires but not a FAT tire bike. The Johnnys' look great and I expect same performance wise. Also added Miles brake pads. All work was done by Cannon Cyclery in Roswell Ga. They are a Rad Dealer now so a good resource for parts, warranty or mods. Really nice people at this shop. Finally everyone said it could have been worse. And mainly it was not worse because I was wearing my helmet. I still see a lot people without them. This shit can happen really fast and if you value your brain put on a helmet.

I spend a lot of time on city trails and the majority of issues with hogging the f***ing road and speeding is the spandex mafia.  I play chicken with the Ahats on "real" bikes in spandex who think they own the F** road and won't move over riding 2-3 abreast at too fast speeds to be safe.

A bike shop near me had to get a 3rd controller for a customer. original was bad, 1st replacement was bad. a rep at rad told me they had a batch that
had a lot of defective units. bike shop said they are a pain to replace all tucked in the down tube.

per a suggestion from a bike shop near me that services Radcity I disconnected the brake cables (not the hydraulics) and so far no stalling. will report back if anything changes.

Service & Repair / Radcity 5 Plus ST power loss

No throttle or PAS sometimes after coming to a stop. NO error message and lights and display or still on. Just no throttle-PAS. So Far if I turn the power to the bike off with the on off button power is usually restored after one try. I spoke to a RADCITY tech at a dealer in California and he had the same problem but his solution was to cycle the PAS down to 0 and then cycle up and the power would return. I'll try that if when it happens again but this is very annoying and potentially very dangerous depending on location when this occurs. I asked RC tech if the brakes cutting off the motor could be a culprit he said no because he had those cables disconnected on his bike. I asked if there was a wiring diagram showing where and what each connector was tied to and he said no, RC would not let them have one. That amazed me and I thought it was illegal now for manufactures to do that. Anyway if you've had this problem and figured out a hack I would greatly appreciate it if you share.

If it was a clean break, there are several glues or adhesives that should work as a repair. just get the one rated for the material you are repairing.

YouTube has plenty of videos to walk you thru changing brake pads, relatively easy task. Basically remove a cotter pin. I would check with a Rad dealer for finding the proper pads

Whoever I need support of have a question I call the Rad dealer in Berkeley Ca. Phone number is listed on Rad website. They answer the phone with a human and have always been very helpful with solutions. Same as you not much luck with Rad central.

Rad Modifications / Re: Best Mods for Speed
June 09, 2023, 10:56:23 AM
Rode dirt and street motorcycles for over 50 years and now I have a RadCity 5 stepthru and I'm a big guy 270 lbs. I have had mine up to 25 a couple of times downhill pedaling hard. Is the speedometer on this bike considered accurate? I live in north Atlanta. Very hilly and wish many times I had more power for hills. But I don't think I would feel comfortable going much faster on this platform. For more speed with my weight ideally I would want to explore dual disc in front. But right now I'm ok with the speed just want more torque for steeper hills. Anything reliable under $2k like this out there? Thanks
