Service & Repair / Re: Choosing a tire pressure

If you going to use Flat Out don?t bother with Mr. Tuffys. You won?t need them and they may actually interfere with the sealing process.

I am amazed with Flat out. I used 16 Oz. In my 20? RRunner rear wheel and so far have survived 3 huge nail punctures. Just make sure to pull out the nails or whatever when the spot is facing down so it plugs fast.

The chain is skipping the rear cog on my brand new Radrunner as well.  Happens under moderate to strong pedaling forces.  My wife managed to get a video where one of the video frames clearly shows the chain lifting off the rear cog teeth and skipping over the the next valley.  The chain tensioner is not bent and is properly aligned to the plane of the chain.  Rather disappointing to have this happen on a new bicycle.  Its not like chain drive is a new thing and people are still figuring it out.

Anyhow, my feeling that issue is a combination of insufficient chain wrap around the rear cog and too light of chain tension.  Its easy enough to increase the tension by removing a chain link pair, but there is a finger on the chain tensioner mounting tab that prevents the amount of wrap being further increased past the current amount.  I'm still waiting to hear back from RPB on what they suggest doing.  With that said, I'm curious if anyone having this issue with a Radrunner or other single speed RPB have resolved this issue.

So, I almost fully resolved the issue by grinding tab on the chain tensioner mounting flange to increase the amount of chain wrap and by removing a link pair.  Its not 100% fixed, but its pretty close.  It skipped only once or twice under very heavy load.  I'll probably grind the tab a little more to further maximize the amount of wrap.

I've decided that the root of the issue is the chain tensioner.  The tensioner pulleys should be much closer to the rear sprocket.  This would help greatly in keeping the rear chain pushed up against the sprocket.

Thanks for your story! I've never seen a chain tensioner/derailleur designed to be so far away from it's intended target. I may just replace the tensioner with an old derailleur.

Yes, somewhere in here I posted pics of doing that. You will need to tension the deraileur with a cable so it sits under the cog. Locking down the limit screw is not enough. Or you could call Rad and get the new idler they have now.

General Chat / Re: New Rad Model Coming 12/6

No doubt with 18? wheels the low center of gravity makes it stable. However 18? tires are another conundrum of limited selection. 20? would have been a better choice at only a slight cost in stability if that.

If its truly the "most requested" then we should have seen it posted here more than 100 times.

Probably not a tandem but maybe a trike.

put some zip ties on the throttle part, the connection part is something to rest the weight of your palm on and helps turn it alot more than grip and twist the whole time.

General Chat / Rad Mission battery on a Runner or others?
November 25, 2022, 12:37:54 AM
Anyone know if the smaller Rad Mission battery has the same voltage and fits the same cradle as the RRunner and others that use the larger one in the same shape.

They are on sale right now and if they fit I?d like one for a spare.

Rad Modifications / Re: Gears for RadRunner
November 18, 2022, 11:56:06 AM
Cant be done unfortunately. I was going to do the same however the hub is made slightly different than the geared version. The reason is so it has a good chain line with the stock 1 gear freewheel. A 6,7 or 8 speed freewheel will not thread on deep enough to clear the frame because of this.

I see people doing this all the time on regular bikes, shopping carts whatever. Success seems to come at the best angle of the headset. You try it at low speed and see what you get. Locking out the headset or limiting its "tiller" effect could also be tried..That being said I know it will work somewhat so have fun. I would get the front rack and mount the front wheel up there.

Also, unless you got clipless pedals with shoe soles that wont rip out, you aint gonna be bunny hopping curbs on a RRunner :) lol

Sad truth is they have your money already. Rad is making a lot of bad decisions lately.

Service & Repair / Re: Flat out vs slime for punctures
October 26, 2022, 03:41:08 PM
Flat Out has been awesome, In the last 3 weeks ive had 3 nails, big ones puncture my tire and its still holding air. It wont work forever I know but so far I've been really impressed. Im using 16oz in a 20x4 tire. That's double whats necessary but its better on the long run since a tiny bit dribbles out from time to time.
