I always carry a 2nd battery unless its a 10 mile or less trip. Riding a heavy ebike without power is nightmare. Lots of hills here, big ones.

On a 300 mile tandem trip with the wife we had a verbal list of 20 reasons to ALWAYS wear gloves on a bike. I cant remember all 20 at the moment but I can tell you that swatting honey bees from local farms off your body was #21

Is it hard to remove the stock grips from the handlebars? Is it just removing that plug and then slowly twist them off?
Pretty much. If you have an air compressor, blast air into a gap between the grip and the bar and they will float off as you pull with your other hand.

Service & Repair / Re: chain lube

If you ride in a dusty environment such as California, this bike chain lube from Finish Line is the only option. I use this on my downhill bike at Northstar and my road bike on the trails. After every ride, I recommend rinsing the transmission and chain. You will find that the dust just washes away without leaving grease like other chain lubricants. Reapply after rinsing and drying. This is how I keep my bike running smoothly in the CA dust.

Best advice so far. ^

Stay away from weird non bike lubes and mumbo jumbo like White Lightning wax. Those will gunk up your chain or run dry very quickly. I live in the Pacific NW and use Dumonde Tech or TriFlow depending on which bike. Always wipe the chain down after applying, you only need the lube on the pivots. Aerosol is another no no in my book, not only does it go everywhere you CANT see plus you are paying for propellent gas and other additives. Ounce for ounce aerosol contains less lubricant for your money in any given size.

RadCity / Re: Schwalbe tires for radcity

I have Marathon Plus tires on an analog bike and they are notably heavier and stiff with the build in puncture barrier so performance is down a bit but thorns and smaller glass bits aint getting in there. The weight issue shouldn't be problem on an Ebike.

If they made them on 20x3 for my RRunner I would buy them asap but they do not. Not sure what Green guard is.

Hi Ryan,

Great comparison.

Any comments on this post?  Regarding front wheel falling off? I would think that the RadRunner plus has many owners so how much of an issue could this really be?

There is a proper way to secure a quick release and many don't read the manual or know/been told how to do it. Its not a wing nut. You dont just twist it tight. I chock that up to operator error.

A quick release needs to take advantage of its cam action design. Like a vice grip.

General Chat / Re: Rim design on Expand5?

Slowrider,

True, it does say double but I'm waiting for a pic from a new owner. It wouldn't be the 1st time I've seen a part discrepancy on their site. Emails have gone unanswered so far. That stepped rim surface is defiantly different. That 200 dollar savings had to come from somewhere and cant just be the sup fork, plastic chain guard, non integrated bell etc. Single wall rims are a notorious hidden from the eyes place to lower prices.

Zoom in on those rims folks. Seems the rim design changed from convex to a stepped design. Anyone else confirm? I am very curious if they also saved costs and went with a single wall design instead of a strong double wall construction that we have seen for years.

I ended up getting a cheaper seat and post from amazon and like it a lot.

https://amzn.to/2VxApVU

https://amzn.to/3lmLNNw

does the oem seat not simply detach and allow a replacement seat in place on the current post?
You got it, The RR and RR Plus seat and post are one unit.

Tyre pressure recommendations can be hard to find sometimes. The letters are usually black on black and barely raised on the surface. I use a bright flashlight to really illuminate the surface and find it that way.

Any mid 90's Shimano rapid fire 7spd shifter will work. 7sp Grip shift will also. I plan on using an 7sd Shimano XT thumb shifter as soon as I find one.

What ever you choose, make sure it is Shimano or "Shimano compatible" so the indexing matches the spacing on the rear cogs.

110mm on the mini is good to know. I wish my RR was 110 instead of 130mm. 110mm has a lot bigger range of options since the bolt circle is smaller. I may swap out the cranks to 110mm at some point.
