The bolt should not be slipping. I think you are either using the wrong sized wrench or have bottomed out the nut and there isn't any threads left to turn it on.

Hard to say more without pictures.

Service & Repair / Re: New freewheel for Rad Mini4?
March 26, 2022, 07:35:30 PM
40 kinda sounds about right. The most important thing is the ratio of gearing. You can find 14-34 everywhere but the Mini has an 11-34!

That small 11 tooth cog is pretty important for top speed on a small wheeled bike.

So......do your search for a "7 speed 11-34 freewheel"

Service & Repair / Re: 7 FLAT TIRES since July 2021!

QuoteThe inserts probably would have stopped a good majority or the seven flats I'm guessing.
Those that it didn't prevent, would still be able to be ridden home too I'm assuming.

Assume if you want. Lots of variables at play with no further information given from the OP.

More power comes at the cost of less battery life.

General Chat / New price for Rad Expand 1499.99
March 26, 2022, 08:53:37 AM
 :-\ huh?

Was the idea to get all the early reviews praising a new lower price point of 1299 then jack up the price days later? I never saw mention of an introductory price.

Now 1499.00 with a parts down grade, cheaper rims etc.

I got it as well. Pretty foolish decision if you ask me. The expand5 is a poor replacement.

I just ordered the Rad battery case. Up till now I was just putting it in a yellow padded shipping envelope. Worked pretty good but wanted something better.

Buy my Tannus Armor tire inserts.
I have an ad posted for those and nice tires too.

Not the be all end all solution.

#1 you have to identify what's causing the flats. Sounds like a nail and thorn account for one or two however there still could be thorns in the tire just waiting for the new tube. Did you feel the inside of the tire b4 putting a new tube in? Sometimes they can just sit in the rubber and migrate down over time. If there is one thorn there is good change another is in the tire but not made it through.

#2 Where are the punctures? On top of the tube or inside? If they are inside then you know the rim or spoke nipples are the issue. New rim strip needed.

#3 Are they pinch flats? Do you ride with low (10-15 psi) tire pressure? If so pump them up. More pressure, less chance of pinch flats.

General Chat / Re: New RAD Expand5 model

Same thoughts on the CST Big Boats. Plenty wide enough and way more efficient on the road. I'm getting much longer battery life after ditching the Kenda K-Rads. Also a few pounds lighter in tire and tube. I only wish they went up to 65psi.

The 4" tires on the Expand5 have to got to be absolute battery sucking slugs on pavement.

Unfortunately marketing keeps driving people twords these super fat tires without listing any of the drawbacks.  I hope the CST's don't get discontinued.

If you want a lighter ebike you can but don't have to spend gobs of cash on a magic metal hi-end one.

You can save about 10-15 pounds instantly by giving up the super fat tires if you on the pavement mostly.

And if that's the case, get rid of the suspension fork as well. That will drop about 5-7 pounds.

Fat ebikes with suspension are the big seller right now but all that is wasted on pavement. It's just dead weight.

My Surly LHT with a wheel conversion weighs 45pounds.

I elevate mine so its got air flow on all sides. If you leave one side flat on a surface it will over heat like you've experienced.

My mount was recessed as well. I had a friend mill it down. See pic.

Looks good. Much better than the milk jug cut outs I've seen.

Do these ergo grips take some additional vibration/ shocks out of the handlebars by chance?

I would say yes. More of your palm is supported and therefor the frequency of vibrations is dampened.
