General Chat / Re: RW4 and 20 inch tires
August 11, 2023, 07:05:44 PM
I believe the rims are also a bigger size. 20? tires from a Rrunner would not fit. To small overall diameter.

If you swapped the wheels out to smaller rims and tires your whole bike would drop lower as well. Turning will be different, fenders won?t work as well and pedals will most likely strike the ground on even very easy corners you normally can pedal on throughout the turn. Also the rear derailleur could end up being just an inch above the ground.

Counterclockwise will increase tension and make the derailleur shift up to bigger cogs. Clockwise will decrease tension and make it shift to the smaller cogs.

This is for minor adjustments though. If you need a full gears worth of adjustment then the cable most likely got stretched and you will need to undo the pinch bolt, pull the cable tight, then retighten the bolt. (Then adjust with barrel adjuster)

There is also a chance the derailleur hanger got bent, this will skew the derailleur making it shift out of sync with the numbers.

Depending on what hit the ground first there are a few variables to what could have happened.

Tell your daughter next time to make sure and knock it over on the non-drive side only. :)

General Chat / Re: Question for Ryan

Quote from: Ddaybc on July 31, 2023, 01:17:37 PMI see Ryan has a new video about adapting the Hollywood rack to carry a trike and an additional bike on the 1st tray.

I saw that video and the recovering mechanical engineer in my head was scared to death, thinking of that thing loaded up with a trike (much less another bike as well) out at the end of that stick, swinging up and down on a rutted road or hitting potholes.  Sooner or later, something going to break and God help the person on the road behind it when it does.
I had to watch that video with this mention. Yes and wow! That is a moving violation of physics.

RadRunner / Re: Chain slipping while pedaling hard

Mooree,

You have revived a really old thread and I don?t think you have quite read it all. There was a recall with the Rad Runner chain idler that had nothing to do with bent hangers or derailleur alignment. It was a poorly designed idler that is no longer sold for over a year.

Service & Repair / Re: Puncture on both wheels....?

Juice both tires with 1/2 a bottle of Flat Out and it won?t matter where those micro punctures are. It will clog them up. Great stuff.

I?m very happy with my 2020 Rad Runner however at this point I would not buy any Rad products until this fiasco of lawsuits, tire recalls/warranties and bad battery design is dealt with.

Right on, I was starting to wonder. They must have two locations of inventory (or at least this time) giant box for 1 tire, No box for 2plus. Hope these are not it for 3? semi slicks. I would probably look for a complete new bike if I was forced  to ride knobbies on pavement due to lack of options. The dream would be some Schwallbe Marathons in this size but I ain?t holding my breath.

My order of one Big Boat has docked. It came in a large box this time much to my surprise. Tire is dusty like it?s been sitting on the shelf for awhile but otherwise in perfect condition.

My shipping has updated to Monday the 3rd. Still leaving from California but didn?t leave till this morning.

Probably tied to the dock for a few days cushioning the bow or stern from whatever boat it came in on while they unloaded the rest the cargo.

Zip tied together in the perfect world isn?t a problem, hopefully they are not next to bundles of pitch forks etc that also ship with boxes.

Refreshed the tracking, coming outta California and still due by Saturday. The ones I ordered last year came from Seattle.

Got my notice as well. 1 tire 2.6 pounds. Delivery due this Saturday.

The last time I ordered these they did NOT box them. Just a sticker label on the bare tires zip tied together. Really unprofessional.

You have done the research and arrived at the answer. You will need a 3rd party controller.

So I purchased 4 Big Boats over a year ago knowing knobbies on pavement sap the life outta legs and batteries. Also being very familiar with how good ties just suddenly go outta production ?that?s why I got four.

Welp, I just panic purchased 1 more off Rads site. 39$ plus 10 shipping to Oregon.

I ride a 40 mile commute twice a week about 45 weeks a year. I have over 3,000 miles on two Big Boats. The front is still in great shape about 60% tread left. The rear is on its last chapter, bald and smooth. I run max pressure. 30psi

Thanks for the heads up.
