My wife and I both have Rover 5's. She never goes on rides more than 15 miles. I often go on rides of 35 - 40 miles, so I take her battery with me when I do that. I usually ride on pedal assist level 2 and get right around 25 miles on a battery. I'm planning two longer trips in the next couple of months - Florida Keys Overseas Heritage Trail (106 miles) and the Kay Trail (240 miles). I plan on riding about 60 miles per day on those. So, I bit the bullet and ordered another battery. I'll actually have 3 batteries with me on these trips. I thought about putting on an aftermarket battery setup, but it was easier just to get the Rad battery and be able to swap it in and use it on either bike. Definitely not the cheapest option though. I also got this bag to carry the extra battery in. It holds the battery and has some extra room for other stuff. I strap it down in my front basket using its built in straps. I need to order a second one for the 3rd battery, or a bigger one that will hold two.

I didn't have to cut anything for my Rover 5. The Ergon set I bought already had a smaller one for the throttle side. I ended up getting them from Universal Cycles.

Maybe something like this could work? There's a bunch of different things like this on Amazon.

Group Rides / Florida Keys Overseas Heritage Trail
January 25, 2022, 01:44:01 PM
Has anyone biked the Florida Keys Overseas Heritage Trail? If so, how was it?

I'm starting to plan a trip for March/April to bike from Key Largo to Key West and back. I'm going to try and do it over 5 days camping along the way. Looking for advice/recommendations.

I use this for a rear view camera and monitor.

I put the Ergon GP1 grips in the YouTube link above on my Rover 5 and love them. I wasn't sure if the rubber would feel better than the standard leather, but it does.

Something like this might work. You would probably want to clamp it down to the floor somehow. It only holds four though. Maybe if you had room for two of them?

This used to happen to me on my Rover 5. After I upgraded to the Bolton controller it went away.

Rad Modifications / Re: Mini Controller protection

I'm not sure about the dimensions on the Mini controller, but if it would fit, maybe you could try something like this. I ordered the large one for my Bolton controller for my Rover 5, but returned it. There wasn't enough room for it on the Rover 5 between the frame and the rear fender. It doesn't look like the Mini would have that problem.

My daughter just ordered this Schwinn Rascal bike trailer for me for my Rover 5 for Christmas. Has any one here used this on a Rad bike yet?

We had our first snow of the season here in Ohio last weekend. There's more coming soon. This is what I need for my Rover.  :)

I wanted my handlebars on my Rad Rover 5 higher and more forward. I installed this. You should be able to use it and turn it around to move them closer.

General Chat / Standard Batteries In Stock
November 09, 2021, 12:31:24 PM
The standard batteries are now in stock at RAD. I just ordered one. I thought the $549 was expensive to begin with, but the $60 shipping made it even worse. I guess that's the price we pay for the easy button vs. wiring and fitting an additional aftermarket battery on the bike.
