General Chat / Re: Hi

There are lots of posts on this. You want to look at the ones for the new battery with the soldered on internal fuse. The easiest way to find them is to go to the home page, enter the word fuse in the search box at the top right, and click on search. A whole list will come up with links to lots of information.

Here's one example for the internal fuse.

RadRover / Re: Bike travel cover
March 22, 2023, 06:13:13 AM
I have 2 Rad Rover 5's that I carry on my hitch rack. I purchased this Pro Bike Tool cover in the XXL in the Travel version. One of my bikes has the front basket and both have rear racks. That's why I went with this size since it said it was for 3 regular bikes. It fits just right for my two Rovers. So far I have used it for two long trips. One was a 3100 mile trip from Ohio to the Florida Keys and back. That trip had rain during about 300 miles of it. The other was a 900 mile trip from Ohio to St. Louis, MO and back. It has held up well and kept the bikes dry. It looks like the price has gone up since I bought it. I paid $69 at about this time last year and it's about $103 now. Not sure if I would have paid that much back when I bought it.

I have a 2020 Rover 5 and I wanted the same thing - higher and back closer to me. I bought this one and installed it with the bend pointing back toward me instead of away. It has worked great for me for a year and a half now.

Service & Repair / Re: 022 Battery Key Replacement

That looks like the older legacy Rad battery from 2017 and before.

The key you purchased is probably for the newer batteries. Not sure where to get an older key though other than calling/emailing Rad support.

RadTrike / Rad vs. Lectric Trike
February 23, 2023, 08:32:22 AM
I've been a big Rad fan since I bought my first two Rad Rover 5's in 2020. I've put about 2000 miles on mine and about 400 miles on my wife's.

All the issues with the newer models have given me concerns. I wanted to add a trike to my collection, so I was looking closely at the Rad Trike. Then I saw the Lectric trike. I couldn't justify the much higher cost for Rad. I ordered the Lectric the day it went on sale. One of the reasons I wanted the Rad was because I currently have 4 batteries for my Rover 5's that I wanted to be able to use. I found a solution for that though. I reached out to Rad was able to order an extra battery mount/wiring for $22 including shipping. I plan to add that to my Lectric Trike after I get it to be able to use my Rad batteries on it.

No plans to get rid of my Rovers or leave the Rad Owners Forum.

@DickB did a great write up/document on BMS replacement in the older Rad Rover battery. It's probably very similar in the new one. You should check it out.

Rad Modifications / Re: Towing with Radrunner Plus
January 10, 2023, 02:13:30 PM
Different bike and cargo - I have a Rad Rover 5 that I just towed a Schwinn trailer with about 70 - 80 pounds of gear in it on a 260 mile trip across Missouri. No issues (other than reduced battery life due to all the extra weight). It was much better/easier than the way I used to do it in the front and rear baskets. I did buy the axle extender from the Robert Axle Project to secure it better.

Nice!

I hear what you mean Hama. I have the same problem. I can't swing my leg over the back of the seat anymore. I've had to get use to having to make the high step over the bar in front of the seat to get on.
#43
I wonder if you could solder something like this on instead and route it externally in case it blows again?

@Hama - I don't have the same bike as you, but here's what I did on my Rover 5 for a trunk. I used a motorcycle trunk. It could possibly work for you. There's some other options in this thread as well.

Rad Modifications / Re: Wiring after market light bar

You just need to use the other model of that same step down transformer that supports 24 watts instead of 12 watts.
