General Chat / Re: Bike Odometer
July 17, 2021, 06:33:25 PM
I used to tune mopeds to go silly fast. And most moped speedos stop at 45mph. I ended up finding these cheap (sub-$30) speedometer/odometers for bicycles that could be programmed to pretty much any tire size and they were: waterproof, very accurate, durable, easy to operate and came in cool animal styles! Like a frog head looking at you and its eyes were the display! Coolest things ever! They were designed for kids bikes and only did speed, miles ridden and total miles. I must have purchased 9 sets of these things. Cat, dog, frog, raccoon, rabbit, mouse and I forgot what the others were. Needless to say once they were gone I've never seen them again and kinda wish I hung onto at least one of them. I think Cateye made them. They were corded so that tells you how long ago we used them.

RadMini / Re: ST Flat tire....:-<

I hate flats. They put a damper on your adventures. The flat could have been a defective inner tube. It happens. I bought a bunch of the Performance brand inner tubes when they were going outta business for analog/regular bicycles. Those tubes were prone to fail at where the valve stem meets the tube. Ended up recycling the rest. Horrible quality tubes. If it wasn't a defective tube and you ran something over consider adding something like a Mr. Tuffy or a Tannus liner. I've had good luck with both so far but have ran Mr. Tuffy liners for years. The Tannus liners are new to the flat prevention game so I'm trying them as well. Quick note. If you don't have a spare inner tube on hand for the 'Mini you'll need to track one down. If you run Tannus liners you can usually find the "new" Tannus tube size at most Wally World or better bicycle shops.

And welcome to the Rad family!

A few questions...
Are the ebikes/batteries in a non-climate controlled environment?
How long did the battery stay dead?
How was it drained that low to begin with?
Lithium batteries are not happy in extreme weather conditions, being completely drained or stored at full charge. I suspect one or more of the above questions caused the problem with the battery. So it was either truly defective or you learned an expensive lesson in battery care. Being outside of the warranty period does not help determine the true cause.

I have Tannus liners. I tried that and it was still very tight clearance and the bolt head was pre-mangled, plus the 'Mini owner wasn't to thrilled with the wires/plugs being covered.

I have a lower rated Nutcase helmet and wear it mostly because I like it (Cats in space) and it fits me pretty good. I always try my helmets on in person. Now I was directed to the same article and tried the Align II and didn't like the fit. It's hard to explain but it didn't feel natural in any way on my head. So I'll stick to cats floating on my head instead. But if the Align II fits you well, I take it you tried one on first, post up a mini review after some miles.

Lookin' good while cruisin'  the 'hood! I'm tempted to try those tires as well.

I got the Cascade Topeak mount and a Trolleytote folding basket for a Mini ST. But for some weird reason I had to trim up the click lock part of the tote to fit the rack plate. Quick and easy and you'll never tell it was modded but I still had to do it. The tote will fit on the rack plate very tight at first but once broken in its the greatest combo.

Oh, and to the OP. Congrats on getting out there and enjoying your ebike. I find every little chance to go ride. Wish I could get my wife to try one.

I have a SHAD SH34 (34 liter) on my RadRunner. But I mounted it to the rear of platform as I never will ride anyone. You might be able to come up with a solution to mount the top box and passenger accommodations but I would imagine it would be tight.

My SHAD sits far enough back that it doesn't hit me or interfere in any way while riding. And it doesn't block the brake light either. If you want pictures (I'm picture dumb) PM me a cell number and I'll take some pictures.

I gave away a set of 4"-5" Mr. Tuffy tire liners. They work on all my other bikes just fine but I'm trying the Tannus liners on my 'Runner.

The Rad Mini ST skid plate is spoken for by Mr. 56. I'll get it out asap.

General Chat / Re: Unplanned group ride!

That's cool! We have a rag tag crew of ebike riders that get together on the weekend but I haven't seen any updates in a long time. Met them once and they had some interesting ebikes and conversions. Our local Pedego dealer does group rides as well but they charge $10 for non-Pedego ebikes.

It seems the rear wheel pulls back for tension on the chain like a convention bicycle. I see a torque control insert in the drop out. I would love to see one in person just to check out the rear wheel arrangement. I hate the chain tensioner on my Runner 1. I'm to lazy to look for an upgrade right now but mine has gotten worse in chain jumpiness lately.

So simple a solution! A+.

My plug port on my battery is a bit sloppy but it works just fine, so I don't worry about it. I also don't think there is a way to open/dismantle the battery as many of us have been wanting to upgrade the key lock.
