General Chat / Re: Bike Lock

The only lock that will work is your butt. I've had my Rover 5 since September 2020 and I haven't used a lock. I have stopped at McDonalds a few times but I took my bike inside otherwise I just don't stop anywhere that would need me to lock it up. I've seen some YouTube videos of thieves stealing a bike and they are fast. I just can't bring myself to leave a $1,600 bike alone.

that's not how this works, that's not how any of this works. I've seen videos of thieves stealing a car in seconds. I still lock my car.

a good lock may not always prevent a thief, but it will certainly deter most. Most bike thefts are thefts of opportunity, and that's what we're trying to avoid here - walking your bike through a grocery store if you want to pick up a few items isn't a realistic option.

looking for recommendations for bike locks for the RadRover 6 Plus - being a fat tire bike, I'd need a lock that is big enough for the fat tires....

I'm in a fairly large city, so i'd need a decent lock, but I don't see my bike being locked up for more than a few hours at a time at most, plus the majority of bike theft here are thefts of opportunity.

thanks!

General Chat / Re: Helmet Recommendation

Still waiting for my bike arrive, but ultimately found myself deciding between the Thousand Chapter and the Bern Hudson. LOVE the look of the Thousand Chapter, but at the end of the day the Bern appears to provide more protection, and that the most important thing when it comes to my dome.

And I love a bargain and want as cheap as possible, but safety isn't something I'm willing to skimp on, so I'm dropping that extra 75 bucks on one of those, instead of some cheap helmet.

General Chat / Re: Insurance for e-bike thoughts?

I've continued to research, and for e-bike coverage exclusively, https://velosurance.com/ seems to be the strongest. Most of the ebike companies are underwritten by the same insurance company, but the little features seem to make Velo stand out.

My homeowner policy actually specifically excludes e-bikes, which i suppose it's nice that they're upfront about it, and i don't have to research the fine print. :D

General Chat / Insurance for e-bike thoughts?

total n00b here - in fact, my RadRover 6 hasn't even arrived yet. But I am super jazzed and keep checking the tracking every day as it gets closer and closer to arrival day.

I've done searching here as well as other places online, and haven't really found much aside from a few scattershot comments.

Do folks insure their e-bikes, and if so, what has proven to be the most effective route? Seems to be a purchase that is a couple of grand oughta be insurable, but I've seen exclusions  on homeowner and renter policies for things like "moto-vehicles," which I suppose by definition, an e-bike is.

thoughts?
