Title: Rad Orange colour match?
Post by: massassi on September 10, 2020, 12:40:43 PM
Has anyone has any luck with finding a colour match for the rad orange? My frame has some damage I'd like to clean up

I have seen some people mention this can, but I have no idea if it is accurate enough: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-Painter-s-Touch-2X-12-oz-Gloss-Real-Orange-General-Purpose-Spray-Paint-334043/307244807 (https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-Painter-s-Touch-2X-12-oz-Gloss-Real-Orange-General-Purpose-Spray-Paint-334043/307244807)

Your best bet is going to be to go to an automotive place and see if they can color match it for you. Depending on where the damage is you can also use reflector tape. I recently covered up some damage to the rear of our RadWagon with leftover orange rim tape. Looks great and increased safety!

thanks. that tape isn't a bad idea in general. but my bike is currently an empty frame from being stripped, and then kicked around a bit, so it has chips in wierd places. i'll pick up some of that paint and use it with caution. i'll report back either way when i think about it!

I bought both the teemclad real orange and a krylon color maxx that looked close. Neither is a good match. The radcolour is more... Fluorescent than either of these. The tremlclad is the closer of the two and might do in a pinch, but it's not perfect by any means.

FWIW, the "C" in Pantone Matching System colour codes means "coated", versus "U" for "uncoated. The coated versions of the swatches are glossy and uncoated has a somewhat matte finish.

They're effectively the same colour, but in the original application of the PMS for spot colour inks printed on paper, the glossy paper gives a different visual effect.
