I've been keeping my eye open for winter traction enhancements, and studded snow tires are not available for 22 x 3.3 tire sizes that Rad uses on some models.
However, I spoke with SlipNot Traction, and they have added this size to their product listing. This size will fit the RadMini, RadMini ST, RadRunner, and Radrunner Plus. They also have the 22 x 3 in size for the RadWagon 4. They also have sizes for the RadRover, RadCity 5, and RadMission.

Hi, question, i have a rad mini 4, it has 20" tires, i notice you mentioned the 22 inch and rad mini4.  will the 22's also fit on the mini with 20" tires?  or did i order the right one (i've ordered the 20", 3.3, just 5 min ago.)

thanks for any thoughts!!

Update:  took the bike to the refered dealer (REI) and they bled the brakes, adjusted a screw in the lever, and replaced the front pads.  They used metal/sintered pads which are noisier but supposed to last longer. To Rad's credit, they have processed the dealers invoice and issued me a credit.

I found the metal pads way too noisy and unworkable in wet. I switched back...

One is awesome!! Thank you!

I live in Canada and shipping will be more. I'm happy to pay the more.

What's the next step?

Get an eggrider. It will do what you want. Big game bikes sells them.

I have ones, I love it!

900 watts.

Hi all, if you followed my plight, you'll be aware that I have a bike without an axle.

Shipping delays give me an estimate of maybe two more weeks (from the original 5) to wait for the rear wheel assembly for my bike to show up, but when I called them yesterday, they actually have no idea, and I should have no expectations until I get the tracking email out. I need some certainty in this...

Looking at options, it looks like the upgrade motor from electric bike world should work and should be fine, even with my stock controller

I had another idea yesterday, There is either brilliant, or too stupid for words. So if the RAD bikes that use hub geared motors are use the same motor, which is my understanding, could I get a rear wheel assembly for a rover or a mission, and then use that motor in my mini? I asked about those two specifically because they have those items, in stock, in the Vancouver show room.

More importantly, or just as importantly, when i pull the motor, I don't want to rebuild the wheel, that could be a last ditch option, but the inner core swap looks so easy. I don't know much about this practice except for the video and the internet says litttle.  can i just moved the core over?   all things being equal i'd probably do the rover as ir has 7 speeds

Obviously I can't return the assembly after I've removed the motor, taken it apart and had my plan fail. so... =)

Maybe the rest of the assembly will make a good wall hanging. I have no idea. I mean I can scavenge some of the parts out of it, like brake pads etc. but I need my axle, that's all i care about.

So the reason to go with this option rather than the electric bike world option is really cost. I'm totally happy with the current power on my bike, i have the stock controller, it's not like I won't to spend the money, but when you look at it, with express shipping, the motor from electric bike world will be over 500 Canadian and that does not include customs. And it will take 4 days + customs to get here. The one from the retail store, it's $350 Canadian. And there is no customs. I expect customs to be at least 50 bucks.

Thoughts, anything else, invited.  Thanks!

You're telling me.

My axle broke in removing the wheel to deal with a flat.

they only do the whole rear wheel assembly. fortunately they had one in stock in a canadian warehouse, which is the same country i am in.  ordered, paid for, and i get that they are TRAGICALLY apologetic, but it's going to take 5 full weeks before i get it.

And then there's no real guarantee or reality to any of it until the "we've shipped your item, here is the tracking number" email goes out.  hopefully 5 weeks, but it's not inconceivable for it to get pushed.

not to put a fine point on it, BUT I USE MY BIKE EVERY DAY, or at least used to, for transport, yes, but also for sanity. and much else.

I've been waiting for a kickstand since i don't know when, whatever, i can deal with that.  it's inconvenient, a pain, but i don't care.  i don't know, i clearly need a second bike if i want it it always available, and i was hoping to get another rad (the cargo perhaps, to complement the mini i have now) and sharing the batteries easily would just be SO VALUABLE.

but... yeah... they've been so great over the year and a half, they're being great but... it doesn't help me.

and it's cheaper to rent a car than an ebike it seems.  options might include:

- take a rear wheel assembly off one of the mini's you have IN STOCK IN THE SHOWROOM READY TO SELL, and when my shipment comes in, it's theirs.
- rent me one of their bikes, for something not stupid, $100 a week, it would be such a gift to me, in 5 weeks, it's not like they would lose there

if i knew what bike i wanted, from elsewhere, i'd go buy it, the debt i can do, Buti don't even know.  i'm half expecting myself to just go to the store one day, but a mini, remove the rear wheel assembly and battery, and then lock/chain the rest of it outside the store.  or just leave it with them.    except it would be a callosal waste of money.  And... well, it feels like taking it out on the front line/sales staff, which...

it's always a bad solution, but right now, especially, i just don't have it in me to be mean to other human beings, especially the ones serving me in whatever way.

IF I KNEW WITH SOME CERTAINTY which motor to order, I'd do it in a heartbeat.  I have the stock controller, and for the display an eggrider v2 and/or the stock display.

the "upgrade" motor as sold by bolton and electro bike world, is not 100% on the stock stuff, and i don't know if the eggrider will be able to deal with it or not.

the eggrider manual does mention compatibility with "Bafang RM G060.750.DC 48V 750W SWX02"

the elctrobike world one seems to be "BF RMG06 48V750W(7)"

but then i read on a thread "https://hilleater.ca/bafang-swx02-rear-cassette-motor-fast-11-turn-winding-fits-juiced-ccs/"

(obviously this is a totally different motor, but what?  theres suddenly two part numbers which doesn'r help, especially since, well especially since it''s too confusing enough all ready.)

"SWX02 is the original part number, RM G020.350.DC (11) is the new designation. (Rear motor, geared second generation, 350w, disc brake with cassette (number of windings))"

(well that was a bit of a rant i suppose)

Rad Modifications / Eggrider and no more USB port
March 27, 2021, 05:56:12 PM
hi everybody.

so i just got an eggrider v2, and my bike (whicb is SO MUCH FUN TO RIDE - wow) is a rad mini 4 2020.  But now that I've replaced the stock display, I no longer have that handy usb port to charge things off of that relatively humungus, often with me, machine we call an ebike.

Can someone point me towards the perfect replacement/soluttion to my dilema...?  <smile>

thanks!!

Rad Modifications / Re: Studded Tires for Rad Power Bikes
December 23, 2020, 02:48:23 PM
Omg - how awesome!

I've been considering this recently. We don't have a brutal winter in vancouver but starting a couple weeks ago and probably for the next 3 months there will be Ice randomly (or not), and that hurt.

So I have the mini 4 which in the docs says "up to 4". Any thoughts on where I should look on sizing?

Also, what are the non studded weather consequences?  (I intend to go back to my regular tires in feb or March when below 0 isn'ta thing any more) but again, it's icy often enough right now that I kinda got to lay off the riding when it's not above freezing or do something and it brings so much joy to my every day!

My point which I post being that 80% of the time for these three months it May be raining or dry it the rest of the things.  What should i expect? Like will it be tolerable or barely noticeable or?

And if that's going to cause the tires to have a silly short life? Because I can't but new ones every year at $100 or more a tire!

Thanks for any initial guidance!
