Rad Modifications / Re: E bike battery fires

I understand the concern about trolls but I, at least, is not trolling.

Battery fires, electric car fires, and gasoline car fires are real. Without even getting into e-bikes, there were recalls on Tesla (electric cars) and even gasoline cars over fire dangers.  Phones, laptops, vaping machines all have fire issues.

Maybe the danger is low but it is there. There is danger whenever energy is transmitted or stored.

sure.

there is danger in driving a car. there's danger in crossing the street. there's danger in walking your dog. there's danger in leaving your house. there's danger in staying in house.

there is, quite literally, danger everywhere, but if you spend your time worrying about things that are VERY low percentage dangerous, you're going to live a miserable life.

RadRover / Anyone use Pinhead Locks on their RR 6+?
March 31, 2023, 05:44:39 AM
I'm looking for a different way to secure my bike than hauling around a big Ulock and a couple cables.

Pinhead certainly looks interesting. Anyone ever use them, and if so what are your thoughts?

25 years ago, my brother's girlfriend's dryer caught fire.

i now keep my dryer in a fire proof box, that is enclosed by a fire proof room. that room is 10,000 meters from my house to prevent any such fire from spreading. It's also on a fireproof slab.

no, not really. none of that. fires happen. they're extremely rare. you've got a better chance of lightening causing a house fire than you do a battery causing a house fire.

Also looks like the downtube is big enough to stuff the controller in there like the new Rovers etc.  Another step down the road of making it more difficult to mod/hotrod the line?

Now let's guess price ..... I'll open the bidding at $1,699 as 'Lectric rubs their hands together in glee.
I agree I would buy an Lectric if I needed a new bike. Their new cargo bike with the dual batteries and up to 150 mile range is 1699. They are killing Rad price wise. I bought a XP lite for a gift. Quality was much better than my Mini.

i saw this. it makes me want to become a hoarder with my current RR6+, and adding to it the 'Lectric Cargo bike and something from EBC, because they have BEAUTIFUL looking bikes,

agree with the previous poster, and i know this isn't what you're asking, but instead of tweaking your bike to try and force it to fit your needs, instead do research and put that $1500 towards something that actually does fit your needs.

Trying to force a bike to do something it's not meant to do usually doesn't end well, no matter how much money you throw at it.

I have mine just over a year. One of the best purchases I've ever made.

Service & Repair / Re: Chain lube
January 31, 2023, 11:18:54 AM
i degrease and lube my chain about once a month. it's basic bike maintenance.

I use the 20 oz pour can of Finish Line Citrus Bike Degreaser and Finish Line e-Bike Chain Lube. I'm not brand loyal, these were just the ones I bought when I first got my bike, and they work fine. I'm not interested in price or any sort of comparison shopping.

I went back and looked, apparently  the 0 button stuck and I was asking for insurance on a $225000.00 e bike 🤣

I'd love to see that bike! lol

figured there was some sort of error when you came out with your original quote.

I did a quick quote from Velosurance, maybe I should look into it a bit more.

my bike insurance is through Velo. it's 15 bucks a month, give or take.

something isn't right if you were getting a quote ten times that.

I just priced bike insurance,  liability aside I can replace my bike every other year with enough money left for wings and beer and still be cheaper than the insurance.

What were you quoted on insurance and who did you contact, because that amount seems off dramatically. Are you really being quoted something like $1,000 a year, because that's insane.

With my premiums, it would take almost 13 YEARS of premiums to even come close to what my bike cost.

It's now apparently fine to store your classified docs in your garage now too as well, so I wouldn't worry too much about bicycle nits.  Or, do what I did long ago and just move the hell out of CA to get away from all of it.

could be worse. you could be in a state where they want to take away the rights of anyone who isn't a straight white male Christian.
I don?t mind a little threadjack but a political topic like this is likely to be divisive. I got my throttle disconnect kit at the Berkeley Rad store and I didn?t even have to jaywalk.

agreed.

that being said, when Roe v. Wade got overturned and if Obergefell v. Hodges gets overturned, that will be a lot of people losing their rights.

I?ve seen instructions for installing a throttle disconnect kit. It is simply two caps to put on each end of the connector after it is disconnected. I haven?t been able to find how to buy one. I?d like to have the option of disconnecting the throttle to make it legal to ride in CA State Park and Recreation Area trails. Most all those trails are restricted to class 1 e-bikes. Can anyone tell me where to get the disconnect kit?

Personally, I'd just buy a sticker off ebay or wherever that says Class 1 and cover your current sticker. and then use your honor and not use the throttle where restricted, instead of going through all the trouble and money to disconnect and reconnect.
It?s my understanding that I could be fined for riding it even without using the throttle. Disconnected it?s legal. Of course I?d hook it back up the rest of the time. I don?t know how closely they?ll watch for throttles since it seems a minor difference. I?m just glad I can keep it legal if it?s needed and switch back again.

i mean, sure. you can be fined for jaywalking too.

Not anymore in Calif.  New law Jan 1 2023 says pedestrians can jaywalk.

score one for the people!

I got less than 2 years and 1,000 miles on mine when it started having problems. That's not worth the $1,400 I paid for the bike.

everybody has their own experiences.

I paid $1,999 for mine 12 months ago, and rode 2,500 miles in those 12 months.
