General Chat / Re: Battery Rescue needed!!

I just did this fuse replacement and now the battery is charging again! I would like to add one thing to the instructions in the link above. Just to the right of the fuse is the flat ribbon that conveys the battery state to the exterior indicator lights. Without knowing it was there I cut through it completely! Now those lights no longer work. I hope that is the only downside to cutting the ribbon. So, keep the cut to expose the fuse to the smallest possible size.

I just did this fuse replacement. It mostly went well and now the battery is charging again! I would like to add one thing to the instructions above. A very big thanks to all that responded and gave freely of their help. I will be riding again tomorrow!

Thanks for the info. I will look for the post re fuse replacement. The "tapatalk" link you posted did not work for me. Do you have another link I could try?

General Chat / Battery Rescue needed!!

I have a RR6+ that I purchased last October. Today it appears that I screwed up either the battery itself or perhaps just the BMS. After a long afternoon of riding, which obviously left me a tad bit spacey, I went to take the battery off the bike. I mistakenly touched the key to the charging port instead of the keyway. The rubber flap on the charge port has never sealed correctly, so as usual, it left the port open to the world. Without thinking I touched it with the key, thinking it was the keyway. Yikes! I got a noticeable spark but nothing else. Now, after being on the charger for 2 hours, the charge indicator lights on the battery itself have not changed from the 4 bars that I had when the battery was removed. Neither the battery or the charger has warmed up, not even a little bit. The charger shows a steady green charging light. Unplugging and re-plugging the battery and charger makes no difference.

Does anyone know if there is a way to "reset" the BMS? Or anything else I might try to get the battery to recognize the charger? Has anyone any experience with replacing the BMS itself? I am assuming that it is located within the battery case.

I am sure hoping and praying that a knowledgeable user here will have some suggestions, besides the obvious one of buying a new battery.

Thanks for reading this and watch your battery removal process carefully after future rides!

Alternatively, you can get another pack with a higher AH rating.  The stock Rad packs are 48 volts at 14AH.  You can get a triangle pack, but personally, I don't like the way they're mounted just sitting in a bag velcro'd to the frame.  I've found a newer battery case that might just work for my RadRover5 mounted in the stock location on the downtube.  If built using the newish Samsung 50E cells, it'll get just shy of 20AH at 48 volts, a range increase of 1.4 times.  I just need to verify the fit, then start building them.  If all works out, I may start building them for sale for those interested, but that could be a ways out with the current delays in sourcing cells worldwide.

If you decide to put some of these batteries together for sale please let me know. I would love to have more range.

RadRover / Re: Car bike rack for RR6+ with 1 1/4" hitch?

I ordered and received a KAC Overdrive Sports K1 track for my car. It is rated for 120 lbs total. I mostly ride by myself so hopefully this will work well for my RR 6+. I have not used it yet, still waiting for the hitch receiver to arrive and be installed, but it seems beefy and strong enough to do the job. I also plan to use ratchet straps to secure the bike to the upper lip of the hatchback on my car. That should help stabilize the rack appreciably.

RadRover / Car bike rack for RR6+ with 1 1/4" hitch?

I drive a Ford Focus Hatchback and the only receivers available are 1 1/4". Has anyone found a rack for their RR with a 1 1/4" hitch? I know about the adapters but they seem sketchy and are not recommended on a number of sites, including RPB.
