although I once said I would be just as happy carrying an extra battery on my bike and just swapping it out, I decided that being forced into buying a rad-branded semi-integrated battery just to have this second battery goes against my core beliefs.

And then I saw this video https://youtu.be/jcXB6IhmAA4?si=5h2swvHD5MaUi8SW earlier in the week, and am now contemplating ordering this kit, as well as another battery from a reputable company that I might actually also be able to use on non-Rad bikes.

Installing seems relatively easy and straight forward, and certainly easier than changing on a flat on the bike tire of my RR6+.

Has anyone had experience with this? thoughts?

RadRover / Anyone use Pinhead Locks on their RR 6+?
March 31, 2023, 05:44:39 AM
I'm looking for a different way to secure my bike than hauling around a big Ulock and a couple cables.

Pinhead certainly looks interesting. Anyone ever use them, and if so what are your thoughts?

I'm definitely getting a second battery for my RR6+. I'm finding more and more I'm pushing the outer limits of range, and at least twice have had to muscle up the top of the hill I live on because the battery was down to one bar.

I am preferring to go the route of simply having a back up battery i can carry along and plug and play, without doing the dual battery connector thing.

But this bring me to the question that makes me feel like an idiot - I know i'll likely need some sort of adapter, but i really don't even know where on the bike I'd plug the second battery in.

So, does anyone know where that plug is? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Josh

Service & Repair / What psi for 3.5 tires on 4 rims?
November 09, 2022, 12:54:57 PM
I'm switching up to 3.5 tires on my Rad Rover 6 Plus.

I rode around on 27.5 psi previously with the stock 4 inch tires, but now moving to a slightly less wide tire (but still using the same tubes), should I be using a different psi?

TIA!

Service & Repair / First ever blow out on my RR6+ boooo
November 06, 2022, 03:48:03 PM
having a great ride, and BOOM, blow out. I'd gotten a flat before from goat heads (as in, woken up to a flat when i went out to ride), but this was the first blow out while riding. Rear tire, too, and i've been unable to remove the wheel (despite having removed it previously to change the goat head flat).

decided to get back to it tomorrow before I do something stupid in trying to remove the wheel in my frustration.

(and yes, i did have flat out, so it might have been a doozy of a blow out.)

I am moderately mechanically inclined. i.e., I can fix a flat on my front wheel.

I'm a bit more nervous on about fixing a flat on the rear wheel, because of all the other details involved - I am not about going 25 mph and having a wheel fall off because I effed up.

What experience have others had with fixing the flat on their rear wheels?

General Chat / Winter eyewear?
September 02, 2022, 07:10:18 AM
I've had my bike since January, and leaving in a hot weather state, I haven't yet done much winter riding.

I wear Goodr Sunglasses (https://goodr.com) when I ride (and pretty much anytime I'm in the sun), but am wondering if something like goggles is more appropriate for winter time - temps rarely dip below the mid 20s, and are usually in the 30s and 40s, but wanted to get a feel for what other folks might do...

RadRover / Tannus on the Rad Rover 6 Plus
August 22, 2022, 02:21:10 PM
1. Anyone here go with Tannus liners on their RR 6+?
2. If so, what's your experience been as far as flats and, equally as important, your ride?

Has anyone used the Saris MHS system for the Rad Rover 6 Plus, in particular with a 1 1/4 hitch.

The weight limit on it is 60 lbs. With the battery removed, the bike weighs 65 pounds - just above the limit. I have zero plans to put more than one bike on the rack, and it's one of the few racks out there that works with a 1 1/4 hitch (please don't suggest adding a 2 inch. I've had that conversation already lol).

Really just looking for thoughts and or actual experiences.

thanks!

How To Information / Tips for Washing your bike?
July 15, 2022, 05:57:05 AM
I've got a Rad Rover 6 Plus, and it's time to give it a good washing.

Any suggestions? Any tips on what parts and areas I absolutely must avoid getting wet, etc etc?

Group Rides / Any place to rent a Rad in El Paso
July 08, 2022, 05:23:02 PM
I'm going to be in El Paso for a few days in September for work.

Any chance any place around there rents Rads?

I've gone about 800 miles since I got my Rad Rover 6+ new, and was planning on taking it into a nearby shop for a check up, etc, pretty soon.

However, it appears my front brake has stopped working. I felt it not quite working as it should the last week or so, and today, despite gripping it to the handle, stopping power is non-existent.

I believe the rear break may also be beginning to show signs of not working as it should, but I'm unsure if that's because if it's needing more braking power with the front brake out of commission.

anyway - any thoughts on figuring out what may be wrong with the front (and potentially rear) brake? I'd like to get to the point where I'm doing most things on my own, instead of going to the shop.

I was riding along, I look down, and all of a sudden, my speedometer is acting super weird and showing all 8s. When I was pedaling, it was 88 across the screen, presumably because I was in double digits.

Anyone know what may have happened?

Any suggestions for books on ebike maintenance, particular for a Rad Rover 6 Plus?

I know there are good books on road and mtn bikes (such as the Zinn series), but anything out there for our bikes?

I've got a RadRover 6 plus with the Rad Rover rear rack on it. I have a milk crate bungied to it - i love the crate and it serves as my "trunk", and it's VERY secure the way i have it corded.

But I'm also realizing it's a pain in the butt to remove the crate and cords and get it back exactly how i like it.

Any with ideas on how to secure the crate to the rack without the cords, yet make it easily removeable at the same time, because there are times I don't want the crate back there.

In my brain, I imagine there's got to be some sort of sliding lockable mount, but i'm not proficient enough in these sort of things to know what I'm looking for, or even if such a thing is reasonable (making sure its mounted securely is important for obvious reasons, not the least of which is that i don't want it falling off with my laptop or what have you in it. )

Thanks for any thoughts, suggestions, ideas, etc.

Service & Repair / Recommended PSI for Rad Rover 6+?
March 24, 2022, 05:37:14 AM
I've got the stock tires and tubes for the Rad Rover 6+ - I'm going to put FlatOut in this weekend.

Since I have to deflate and then re-inflate, what should my PSI be when i re-inflate? I'm seeing the range of 20–30 PSI, which seems like a pretty dramatic range to me.

I'm in a warm weather state, do most of my riding on city streets with some off roading for fun.

Anyone here installed the Juiced horn/alarm (https://www.juicedbikes.com/products/juiced-bikes-horn) on their Rad Rover 6+, and if so, how did the install go? I love the volume and it will be perfect for my commutes, but I definitely want to know the install is relatively seamless.

Pride & Joy / Stickers on our bikes?
March 13, 2022, 09:19:27 AM
One thing I've noticed, and found peculiar, is the dearth of putting stickers on our Rads.

I think back to when we PLASTERED our skateboards with stickers, and when I first got my Rad and started perusing these forums, i figured you'd see brewery stickers, band stickers, and the like, up and down the fenders and in all sorts of funky places.

I'm wondering why I don't see a lot of stickers - is it that our bikes just look really shiny and cool (even when they're beat up), that stickering them might cheapen the look?

RadRover / Seat upgrade suggestions for Rad Rover 6 Plus?
February 24, 2022, 07:32:05 AM
The eternal seat question.

Looking for seat recommendations for the RadRover 6 Plus.

I really thought I'd be fine with the stock seat, but after my first 20+ mile mostly road ride that did also include some off road jumps, my old man ass was sore, as were my inner tights (tmi?? Lol).

I've got a fairly flat ass, so not much natural cushion there despite hovering around 195 pounds.

Whatcha got, and why?
