General Chat / RAD CITY 5+ HANDLEBARS
« Last post by Dino73 on March 23, 2024, 03:34:47 PM »
Hello, I have recently purchased a Rad City 5+ commuter and I am looking to change the handlebars to a straighter more aggressive handlebar. Like the ones on the HS 6. Are these bars inter-changable? The current bars are for cruising, not really good fro more aggressive hill climbing. I like to stand up when hill climbing to get more torque and require less battery power/ drain to get up the hills. I live in Victoria on Vancouver island and we have plenty of hills to climb here.

UPDATE: I just saw an ad on Facebook showing a woman with a Rad Expand 5 Plus with the front basket. She carries it down the stairs folded, unfolds it, and rides away. So maybe not such a problem...

General Chat / Re: Looking for wireless phone charger with handlebar bracket

I suggest getting a cheap wireless charger puck for $10-$15 mail order. Hot glue it to the mount. I use the setup at my desk and it works fine. For a bike, I suggest using one of those mounts with a rubber band backup. The rubber gasket thing will keep the phone in place.

I don't do it myself because:

Wireless charging causes heat which is fine in an AC car. I have tried wireless charging on a bike, in 95 degrees weather with the display on max brightness and a navigation app running, sun directly on the phone, the charger/phone shuts down because of the heat. I suppose if you go fast enough on a bike, maybe the wind cooling would offset the excess heat. I am saying it is not an automatic solution and there is no guarantee it will work in hot weather under the sun.

Now I use two mounts. One for a battery and one for the phone and I use a cable to connect the 2. The one for the battery does not need to point up and is installed upside down, with a rubber band holding the battery in place in addition for security. The temperature of the phone is lower.

Maybe a Back up Battery would be cheaper and easier?

That was great!  I can add this,  I am starting my third year of riding my RR+ and starting my second 10,000 miles.  Ride it daily 20-25 miles and charge the battery every day (with no loss of range thus far).  Ride RAD and ride for fun!

Hi Jim - It's certainly true that I am lucky to live in an area where I have access to several types of trails, my fave are the canal towpaths that I roam, particularly the Ashby canal, which I access from the Coventry canal. Appreciate the input.
