I wonder what other step-thru adjustable seat almost moped style bicycles are out there?

I just saw the Juiced Hyperscorpion is on sale for $1899 30+mph 70+ mile range.  Not as much cargo room, but I like the mag wheels and headlight/turn signal setup.  $100 more gets you the Express one with the big rack on the back.  If I wasn't hauling a 5 year old, I'd probably have one of those instead of my RR+.  It probably needs to be registered/insured if it goes that fast.

Hydro brakes would be nice, maybe someday...

Today there were a bunch of stories about "E-bike battery sparks 5 alarm fire". It was a terrible fire indeed, and they had news conferences and everything.

Only one problem: It wasn't an e-bike.

So what was it?

General Chat / Let's talk about battery fires

This seems to be in the news a lot recently, NYC fire dept. said there were 400 fires last year caused by ebike batteries.  Anyone here ever have this happen, Rad or any other brand?  It is just from people forgetting to disconnect from the charger once the battery is recharged?  I always plug my charger into a timer in case I forget about it.

Do you have the knobby Kenda ones of the Cheng Shin kind? I think Rad uses both brands.  Are they inflated properly?  I ride year round here in the soggy Pacific northwest and haven't had any problems except one morning with freezing fog where I was a dummy and braked while turning on a painted street mural.  I didn't wreck but the back tire slid out.  The bike even did pretty good riding home in a snowstorm last week as long as I avoided where car tires packed the snow down into ice.

I bought new pads once I went over 500 miles, but the old ones didn't look much thinner than the new ones when I took things apart, just eyeballing, no micrometer measurements. I'm just wondering what the average lifespan is.

And Rad bikes use resin pads, right, not sintered?  I'm new to disc brakes.

I wish, but no.  It would have clearance issues with the derailleur, and the frames are slightly different due to front suspension.

General Chat / Do your brake levers ever buzz/hum?
July 22, 2022, 05:46:46 PM
I just noticed today that when I'm moving, my brake lever was making a buzzing/fast ticking sound, but it doesn't happen if the bike is stopped.  I usually ride with a small USB speaker for my kid on the back, but today I didn't use it so I'm not sure if it has always made the sound, or if it's something that just started happening.  It seemed like the front lever did it every time I used it, and the rear one only did it a few times? It's a Rad Runner Plus, just over a year old.

RadRunner / Re: rear wheel axle size?

I will add that there is no way to attach a torque wrench to the key/wrench for the skewer, headset, and seat locks.  rear axle key fits in a normal socket.  I thought I had the skewer tightened pretty tight, but I did have to re-tighten it after 4 or 5  4 mile rides.

168mm front skewer fits the Radrunner+  perfectly, I'm assuming your bike uses the same wheel?  I haven't installed the rest of the locks yet since I have been able to park my bike inside at work.  I was mainly concerned with replacing the stock front skewer after reading the "front wheel fell while riding" thread here in the RadRunner forum.

General Chat / HubSink motor cooling fins

Anyone here try these, or even know if they would fit on Rad bikes?  I'm not sure what style/size motor is used on the Rad Runner Plus.  Seems like they might be helpful climbing hills while carrying passengers.  What is a bigger cause of Ebike death, motor overheating or controller overheating?  I got a whiff of hot plastic smell while going up a hill the other day, and I remembered seeing this a while ago.

General Chat / Re: Motorcycles and EBikes

Not a full sized motorcycle, but this was my daily driver from 2009-21, front end is from a 1969 Suziki K10 Hillbilly, the rest is parts from several 1978-83 Honda PA50 Hobbits. The kid's in preschool now so the Rad Runner Plus seemed like a good way to get him there without having to pay for a second car + insurance.  Thank you child stimulus check.   I think I've only ridden the moped once since getting the ebike. I do feel naked without a full face helmet, especially on those rainy days.  Now that they passed the "stop signs are optional for bikes" law here, the ebike gets me to work just as fast as the gas bike, and I can park it inside at work.  I honestly keep thinking of selling the old moped, I just don't have those endless hours to tinker in the garage like I used to, and I sure don't miss the gas/carb cleaner/brake cleaner fumes.

They came in the mail the other day but I haven't installed them yet, I started to clean my garage when I went out there to work on the bike.  The Pinhead website has a package for E-bikes for 99$, front skewer, rear nuts, headset lock, and seatpost lock.

I want to get the pinhead wheel locks, is it M9, M10, or M12?
Thanks

someone here used the longer one from this 4 pack on their front wheel: https://bit.ly/3Uzkjot

The person who started the thread was riding a RR+ with suspension fork, so it is happening with both models.
