General Chat / RAD Rover 6+ battery woes, HELP!!!
August 26, 2022, 04:36:37 PM
OK, after waiting a month for a RR6+ battery replacement, covered under warranty, we/my friend finally received a replacement. Yay, finally...

- How much charge would you expect to be on the replacement battery we received?  It showed NO charge (no bars) as received.
- When we attempted to charge it with a known good charger (we have two identical bikes), for about 4 hours, it still shows NO charge.
- The charger now shows green light when attempting to charge the battery, like the original failed battery, when attempting to charge it.

In case you are wondering if I'm a normal idiot with no electrical/technical background, I am a Life Senior Member of the IEEE.  Look it up if you don't know what that means.
OK, I might be an idiot sometimes  ::), but not about stuff like this....

WTF RAD?

We've been waiting a month to receive a replacement for a RR6+, covered under warranty.  This is taking a big chunk out of the Michigan riding season. I hope they get their act together soon.

Uh oh, we might have another Rover 6+ that won't take a charge.....
Should be covered by warranty since they were new last fall.

I'll see if anything simple is being overlooked, and if I don't find anything will contact RAD.

Strange it seemed to occur within a week that one of the two identical chargers decided to stop working.

OK, it's definitely a bad battery (not taking a charge) on my friends Rover 6+.  Luckily we have two identical bikes/chargers so we can isolate/confirm issues quickly.  She sent all of the Rad requested photos and video and am awaiting a decision from them.  It's under warranty, so hopefully they take care of it quickly without a fuss.

Still waiting.... They sure are taking their time......

And still waiting....   Am getting more than a little pissed that RAD thinks so little of their customers to not expedite a solution.  or at least directly communicate what's going on.  A significant portion of the Michigan riding season is lost.

Still waiting...

Even after sending this info to RAD confirming a bad battery, don't expect any quick action on their part.  A lot of foot dragging from them and wasted time is what you can expect, from our experience.
I received my battery a week after providing all the warranty information.  Not fun, but not bad turnaround.

Well, then you are fortunate/lucky.  It's been close to a month after my friend sent all the requested info, battery has still not shipped.  Starting to think RAD was a mistake the way they handle warranty issues.

...and still waiting for the replacement battery.

so up-dated plugged it in last night off the bike, used a smart plug to turn it off after 7 hours, and nothing ( my rad wagon was fully charged).  The odd thing is as soon as I plug in the charger for the Rover 6+ the light is green.  I have only seen the light on that charger green.  now have been on support for almost an hour waiting my turn.   I am hoping against hope I can get this figured out before a big trip next week ( the reason we pulled the trigger on my wife's bike).  Thanks for the assistance!!!

I hope I am mistaken, but your description makes it sound like the problem many of us have with a bad battery. Best of luck!

Any chance anyone has one of the DK2 Rear Hitch Mounted E-Bike Carrier sold at Costco?
https://www.costco.com/dk2-rear-hitch-mounted-e-bike-carrier.product.100855719.html
Currently for sale at $260.00.
I'd have to swap out the small receiver on my 2016 Outback and get a 2" installed.

I'd be hauling two RadRover 6 Plus Step-Thru (with batteries removed)

This is possibly better/cheaper than the approach I was planning on - getting a small trailer like the DK2 5FT X 7FT Single Axle Utility Trailer Kit - Galvanized that Costco was selling.
Like this: https://landmarktools.com/products/dk2-5ft-x-7ft-single-axle-utility-trailer-kit-galvanized

Thanks for any knowledge on that carrier.

I take my finger and stretch it from the hinge side and push it down and now it stay closed.
Saw this on another forum and it works.

Thanks. Initial attempt using this approach appears to work!  I'll check on it after a couple hours to see if it stays shut.

WOW!  I just checked it after a day, and it stayed shut!.  Thanks for the good and simple solution.  Guess they should add  that to the manual, if it's not already.....

Does anyone know how to fix this very minor but irritating "issue".
[besides taping it shut]   ;)
