RadCity / Re: Premium Headlight (for Radcity 5)
September 11, 2023, 03:37:07 AM
So after also finding the premium headlight ridiculous, I bought this one (it?s plug and play and doesn?t draw Too much power) on my rover step thru?. It?s great. I?m glad I went with the yellow? it?s fine and less blinding to others.

https://www.ebay.ca/itm/234738995390

As for more capacity, I got a second battery from rad and the datex2 which lets you use both batteries at the same time. It?s also mostly plug And play except you have to figure out all the mounting yourself (which is not hard but not easy!)

Note there is very little grease on the gears.

Slight side question: I?m about to replace my planetary gears, tomorrow.

I got some mobile 28 to grease them.

How much grease should I  CC put on them And where shall I grease?

Like just the teeth sparingly, or everywhere abundantly?

Thanks!

I need to replace (and therefore order) the planetary gears on my rover step thru 1.

I think the motor is of type

G060

but I could be wrong? I?ve seen one reference claim it?s of type

G020

any help?

Thanks!

Not to be loud, but in my opinion, NO, NO, NO!!

I had (have actually) a mini 4, was lucky enough to get a rack from the start, fits fine but it doesn?t accept most paniers/attachy things because the tubes are too thick? HUGE PAIN IN THE BUTT.

After a year and a half i found out that the rad ROVER rack fits the mini just beautifully, and has tubes of a workable size.

Instead of sittting maybe an inch off the fender like the mini rack does, it sits maybe 6 iinches up, so not a lot at all..

Totally recommend doing this.

General Chat / Re: Insurance for e-bike thoughts?
January 28, 2023, 11:27:34 PM
This is an old thread, but in case it helps?

I also live in canada, i found that other than the possibility of your home insurance providing some coverage (mine does not) the only ebike only insurance i could find that did canada was/is pedal power insurance.

You can buy directly off the site or from a good number of insurance retailers.

My cost, for theft/damage only not injury, etc? for my mini4 from new (about $2100 insured) is just over $100 a year.

I?m happy with them so far but insurance happiness is more about ?do they pay out or do they screw you around in the time of need??

And since i work very hard to not get my bike stolen in any case, i do not know yet!  =)

I live in Canada and my insurance company told me the same as JimInPT.
My homeowners insurance told me all I will have to do, in the event my bike is stolen, is prove I bought it and it is going to be covered.
They do have some limitations however. It must be 500 watts or less and it must have cost $3000.00 or less, accessories are not included. So they don't insure my bike and all of it's accessories.
I'm still going to try to find an insurance company that will completely insure my bike and if it was ever stolen it would be totally covered. I don't have any issues with proof of accessories etc as I take pictures every time I make changes.

How did it turn out??

Rad Modifications / Re: Bafang got cheaper...

I hate to hijack a thread, and I?m not sure if this counts, but I think you?se have the answer (those on this thread:-) )

I have a motor (the one out of the mini 4) with a broken axle. It?s been replaced, but I?ve kept the motor, if for nothing else wall was art.

How feasible/possible is it to replace an axle on these things?

Would be nice to have a spare and send like a shame since the rest works.  Should I perish the thought or what??

Anyways, thanks for any thoughts!!

I got the hydraulic brakes from big game bikes, they're great, they have a motor cut off which for me was a deal breaker and shipping to canada is included!!

Highly recommend.

General Chat / Re: New price for Rad Expand 1499.99
March 27, 2022, 10:02:07 AM
Two things...

First, if this was the thinking, then I would be SUPER unimpressed with them.... I''m guessing it wasn't... but that it doesn't hurt... well, doesn't hurt...

Second, ARE THEY REALLY DISCONTINUING THE MINI?  LIKE EVERYWHERE IN THE WORLD??

I have been hearing/reading disturbing rumours on these internets but, you know, I was ignorning them for the moment.  But... what's the reality?

I have a mini... I LOVE MY MINI.  IT simply will not last forever.  I don't really want to (not have the random cash nor the space) for a second bike/another mini/backup mini, but what to do?!?

Thank you for settling my uncertainties, as scary as they may be!

:-\ huh?

Was the idea to get all the early reviews praising a new lower price point of 1299 then jack up the price days later? I never saw mention of an introductory price.

Now 1499.00 with a parts down grade, cheaper rims etc.

I think it makes for a good walking pace when you're going up a HILL.

I may be imagining it, and I'm going to try right now <smile>, but from what i remember it's slower going up hill.  (Not that awkward, light jogging pace.)

I think walk mode speed ic controlled by the PAS setting, Am I correct?

No, as stated above it's a fixed speed and I think was set in the controller programming by a speed-walking enthusiast.   ???   Maybe it's the minimum speed the motor, speed sensors and controller will operate under power; dunno.

However, you can blip it for a second or so, walk up a couple of steps to get slightly ahead of the handlebar and blip it again - you just have to wait three seconds between blips to re-engage walking mode; this trick would require some practice on a level surface first, but it should work even for those who can't walk really fast, like me as well.

BTW, for those wondering... I just went out to the garage and confirmed that walking-mode DOES work in PAS 0 setting, at least on my 2021 MiniST2.

I use this bag.  It fits well, it's a sturdy bag, wish it had a shoulder strap... but it doesn't!

General Chat / Re: Inside the Rad battery and BMS

Since you have already taken the battery apart, in great detail. I'm curious to know: is there any slack space inside big  enough to say hide an Artag in? Thanks!!

RadMini / Re: Lag is a Drag
January 05, 2022, 07:50:39 PM
As a piece of info, I have an eggrider which lets me modify this. I Took off the lag entirely, was on a ride  and got some crap stuck in my gears, so I put the bike on the kickstand so I could get it out, touched the pedal, and the bike shot forward surprisingly and almost hurt me a bunch.

I put the lag back. I mean I almost always use the throttle to start up. That's the hard part:-)

RadMini / Re: Rad Mini Rear Rack
January 05, 2022, 07:29:24 PM
So a couple weeks ago i was in the vancouver store and they did have them in stock there. I don't believe they ship from there and the store stock status is different from the online stock..

It's a bit frustrating but also, how it is.

I got my rack, LUCKILY, a couple weeks after i got my bike in Feb just before the pandemic.  It has been the changer.  It's like a roof rack for a car — it makes it possible to do almost anything! (Well, maybe not mattresses, but you know...)

Let's hope stock status in the store means stock will show up soon again online.

However if you or anyone else needs/wants the rack for the mini, and presuming you don't live in vancouver, but elsewhere in canada I'm open to assisting.

It would be on a non profit basis (ie. you would pay the amount the vancouver store would charge me for the rack, including taxes, receipt def.. provided) plus shipping to you., and we could chat to do the things so that each of us feel good with the risk (for example, if you want two, it might be better to do one at a time because we don't know each other, etc..., also shipping i would insist be traceable, can be slow or fast but somehow track able,, etc...) and then afterwards we can call rad and transfer the ownership or i can do it in the store and you can verify afterwards (i've done this for a battery i bought,, and it at least confirms the person i bought it from DID own a battery that they legally purchased, etc... and they just put a notation on the invoices.)

Anyways, it's an open offer, if i get a lot of request, i don't' have a huge float for this, so i may only want to do 1 or 2 max at a time, and i don't think rad is necessarily ok with this though i don't think they'll care given that I'm not looking to make any money, but they might start asking me questions when i go in to buy the 7th rack, but you know, if i can help 1 or 2 people get a rack, that's fine by me.

Anyways, people have been generally pretty awesome and helpful here, it feels like a community of sorts, so it feels like something i can put a bit of energy into.

Enjoy your mini's!!!

I read yesterday that the Mini rear rack was available however when I tried to order one I was told that they don't ship to Canada and that I should contact
Rad Canada ( I hadn't realized that the link I used was the USA only )
I tried to order one through the Support Centre ( telephone ) and was told that they were unable to help
I was asking if it was also available in Canada therefore their response seemed odd.
Has anyone in Canada been able to order one since they announced that they had them in stock again

On a more positive side I ordered two Rad Mini step thru's on Dec 15 and received them on Dec 22
