Title: radwagon rear pannier adaptor - 10mm
Post by: venom386 on January 13, 2020, 04:01:13 AM
Hello,

I did this mod because I wanted to use other panniers, Ortlieb mainly. The ones that RPB sells, the ballard is too big, the freemont is too small :)
So I did this stainless steel mount with 10mm pipe.

Looks like a professional job. Do you have a picture with the bags attached?

I'll do one tonight when I get home. I own 2 https://www.ortlieb.com/back-roller-plus and they fit perfectly.

Here's some photos with only one pannier attached.

Thanks for sharing, looks like a really nice bag. Eventually I want to get some panniers but we just use backpacks for now. What is that rear plate by the light? And is that a different light as well?

It's the EU version.

How difficult was this to do?  Do you have a parts list?  I'm debating jumping on the radwagon but wary since I read the tubes are too big for my current Ortliebs I'm using on my Surly Crosscheck w/Tubus rack and don't necessarily have the money to buy a new set of bags at the moment.  Looks like a smart fix just not sure i have the capability.

On the Rad City, a smaller diameter tube runs just an inch or two below the main rack. It's a shame they didn't do this on the RadWagon, the model that needs it most due to the rack tube diameter being too large to fit any off the shelf bag I've found. We're left with either modifying the bag, rack/frame, or both.

For the black pieces that actually mount to the fame, are those off the shelf parts or did you have those custom made?

I have a Rad City and I'm looking for panniers. The Fremont just seems too pricey so I've been looking at other brands. The PakRak bags look nice but would have to clip onto the smaller diameter lower bar on the rack. If I do that will the bag hang down too far?  Does anyone have ant experience with these bags?

Have you checked out the Roswheel panniers? I have heard good things and the price is reasonable: https://amzn.to/39SUsQQ (https://amzn.to/39SUsQQ)

Rhinowalk bags are pretty nice.  Guy I work with uses them.  I could probably try out on wagon to see how they fit.

Very clean. Too bad the bags will hide them.

I actually just ordered a Freerider 31L from Green Guru for my wagon, the rep said the clips should fit the 1 inch tube racks. The  clips look pretty massive, I'll post pictures when it is delivered. Here is a smaller version on Amazon. Green Guru Gear Free Rider Bike Pannier, Multicolor, 22-Liter https://amzn.to/3ENBMBq . They have regular bags too not just slings like I ordered. And they are made out of recycled bike tubes and stuff which is cool. #supportsmallbusinesses

For all those that come here looking for an answer that is buy v build:

https://www.superknuckle.com/product/Pannier_Adapter_Rad_Power/23?cp=true&sa=false&sbp=false&q=false&category_id=9

A company called SuperKnuckle actually makes an adapter.  Just ordered it.  I haven't tried it yet, but the $16 price tag is where my DIY parts list was coming at or above, so I thought I would toss the dice.

Very cool, thanks for sharing. Let us know what you think once you receive them. I agree that price is very reasonable.
