RadCity / Re: Controller failure - no parts in sight

I purchased (2) Rad City 5's at the same time as you and the controller went out on one of them last September. It took 4 months to get the controller and now I am having issues with the Pedal Assist. Haven't been able to ride this bike in over six months. Now its out of warranty and I have to pay for additional parts. Am now waiting for another part to hopefully fix this issue.

I?d follow up and put your headaches with it in a polite but strongly worded letter/email. At a minimum, they should extend the warranty for the time they couldn?t supply you with the controller. That?s bullshit.

If your battery has the cheapo blade fuses, it is an easy fix if you follow the directions in the thread DickB posted. Good luck!

Have you tried adjusting the suspension fork to make it stiffer?  Had the same issue after my wife put on the front basket, but was able to adjust the fork to handle it.

There is a guide on Rad?s site on adjusting it.

[Edit:  Oops. Missed that you had already adjusted it.  Weird that it would still bottom out. ]

Looks like a trike - 2 rear fenders look like they are peaking out in the picture.

Someone on a Reddit thread said it is a trike and that they had ridden one in the testing phase.  Their comments were that they popped it up on two wheels a number of times when turning corners - they weren't impressed.  We'll have to see.

Hopefully it doesn't have exploding tires or batteries that short in the wind. . .

Thanks to everyone for the solid information on this thread.  I finally tore into mine this morning and lucked out  - it has the replaceable 10 amp fuse.

The fuse is deeper in than I expected.  To get better access to the fuse I ended up pulling off the other side as well, loosened up the silicone holding the assembly in place and pushed the assembly out a bit.  I still cannot believe what a bad design this is.

But I had success - the battery is currently charging away!

Thanks everyone.

The complaint wasn't a masterpiece, that's for sure.

Do you have a PACER account? Can you report back as to which model is involved in the State Farm lawsuit?

https://www.bicycleretailer.com/industry-news/2022/10/05/state-farm-suing-rad-power-bikes-damages-after-insureds-e-bike-caught-fire

I pulled the complaint - there is no specific Rad model identified. The complaint is a form subrogation complaint without much detail. State Farm paid a claim and is trying to recover what it paid out.  The product involved is "electronic bikes and related paraphernalia, including but not limited to the battery pack and its associated charger, at issue in this case (?the product?)." No other description.  Sorry.

UUUUUGGGGGGG I should have found this thread before i bought it, now about an hour into a support call ( still waiting in line) for a brand new rover 6 + that will not take a charge. the light on the charger goes straight to green when it is plugged in.  I have gone over the correct sequence when charging  1. plug into the battery, 2. then the wall, as well as when it was plugged in it is on a smart plug ( tried it with and without the plug) to limit the time it charged.
Check out radgranddad?s post - was your battery in ship mode? Hold the power button for 10 seconds and then try to charge it and see what happens.

UPDATE:

Received a new battery from Rad under my warranty claim.  It was a week from when they approved the claim to when I received the battery.  I'm happy with the customer service and result.

This is good to hear. Received my bike yesterday and the battery was DOA (no charging lights or anything). Support did say there was a "5 day backlog" on manager approval for battery replacement which did not exactly make me feel warm and fuzzy. I've been reading nothing but nightmares of people waiting months.

Also, out of curiosity does rad require the faulty batteries be sent back for warranty replacements? I'm wondering if I should break out my soldering iron and attempt a repair (according to the serial number I apparently have the soldered fuses) so I can maybe actually enjoy my bike a bit before summer ends.

Rad does NOT require you to send the old battery back.  Break out that soldering iron!  What is the serial number range that has soldered fuses?

Even after sending this info to RAD confirming a bad battery, don't expect any quick action on their part.  A lot of foot dragging from them and wasted time is what you can expect, from our experience.
I received my battery a week after providing all the warranty information.  Not fun, but not bad turnaround.

I need to Macguyver a way to haul bikes in a boat and was thinking of rigging a fork mount to keep the bikes solid.

Does anyone know the actual size fork mount for a RadRover 6+ and a RadCity5+?  What size are the skewers?  I can't put my hands on a mm tape measure. . .

Thanks.

The problem is with your new RR6+, right?  If so, ZERO miles out to be a great starting point for the claim.

I just had my battery replaced last week - got the bike mid-May.  They did not ask me anything about cleaning, miles, usage or storage.

Hello All,

I recently purchased a Rad Rover Plus 6 back in May and I am already having problems with my battery not charging.  I plugged my charger into the bike first and then the wall and the green light comes on automatically when I plug it into the wall. Any clue on what may have happened or what should I do?  Is this normal?

I did reach out to Rad but I am still waiting on a response back.

Thanks for your help

So what?s the status with your battery issue?

I had the same issue and Rad got me a new battery.  Took a few days for them to assess the claim but I got the battery within 2 weeks of it going out.
