100 KGF

You might consider purchasing the Park Tool  TM1. That tool should register 32 for a properly tuned spoke.

Motorcycle covers are perfect for that sort of thing. And they are very inexpensive.

The LED's do occasionally go bad. But the good thing is, they are not indicative of the health of the battery. I too have a bad LED on one of my batteries. I really don't even read  the lights. My battery charges fine and all is good.

Plugging/rigging an aftermarket headlight into an ebike is just asking for trouble. Why risk damaging the controller and voiding your warranty? There are so many headlight options out there that have rechargeable batteries. And mini battery storage devices for cell phones that can be used as backup power for the headlight.

RadMission / Re: change chain to belt drive
February 05, 2022, 03:12:40 AM
I'm not sure why you would want a belt drive other than you hate chain noise. The Mission is so simplistic due to it's lack of a derailleur, the chain should last for years. And of course the obvious outcome of Rad voiding your warranty if you ever need service.

General Chat / Re: Controller question
February 05, 2022, 03:05:36 AM
That's simply not true. Admittedly Rad may be temporarily out of stock on controllers for that model at their warehouse. But some of their service centers do have a limited supply in stock.

I just read a Facebook entry where a guy faced the same situation as you. He went to a Rad service center and they swapped out the controller a few days ago.

It sounds like you just want to send the bike back and I understand your reasoning. But if you do a little legwork and ask Rad if there is a service center near you, it's possible they may be able to get you back on the road in a couple of days.

You could try motorcycle style tie downs. Be sure to get the soft strap option where there is an extra strap on one end that allows you to wrap the extra strap around the handle bars instead of using the metal hook. Keeps the handlebars from getting scratched.

Basically the bike stays upright in the bed and a tie down is attached to each side of the handlebar, down to eye hooks in the bed. The compressed fork acts as part of the strap down process.

Your concerns are valid in regards to your hydraulic brakes when removing the front wheel. Your bike should have come with a plastic pad separator when it was new out of the box. You have to remove the separator before you can install the front wheel. If you saved that separator, you can put it back in whenever you need to remove the wheel. Otherwise you can buy one at a bicycle shop or Amazon for less than $5.

The separator keeps the caliper piston from pushing out of it's housing in the event you squeeze the brake lever by mistake after taking the front wheel off.

RadMini / Re: who is it for
February 03, 2022, 12:07:08 PM
I assure you, there are just as many men riding Mini's as woman. And the whole step thru thing being a girls bike went out ages ago. Who wants to throw a leg over a high bar when you can just step through it?

The mini is especially popular in the boating and motor home crowd. Just as many men in those groups, if not more.

Sounds great, but I wonder if that particular fork was spec'ed for a conventional bike. Hopefully it doesn't fail due the the extra weight of an ebike. You might want to monitor the fork tube running through the stem to be sure no cracks develop.

I haven't heard of a lot of issues with the City 5 Plus out of the box. Most people seem to love them. Check to see if you have a black cloud over your house.

Seriously, I'm sure the new one will be fine. 3rd times a charm!

Outside diameter of the Runner handlebar where the mirror should mount is 22mm.

Rad doesn't advise installing a mirror in the conventional manner on the handlebar. There isn't enough surface area to attach the mount before the bar begins it's downward turn to the stem. Look at your bike and you will see what I mean.

You might look into mirrors that install in the end of the handlebar. I think they call them bar end mirrors.

RadRover / Re: RadRover 6 Plus Shipments?
February 03, 2022, 11:15:27 AM
Apparently the Rover 6 Plus has been very popular. I suspect the delay in your second bike was due to shipping the second bike from a different warehouse. That's a whole lot better than receiving the first bike, but waiting months for the second bike to arrive due to it being out of stock.  😀

I would still ask Rad where the closest service center is located in regards to your location. It's possible you could have one locally and they could fix the problem pretty quickly.

If they don't have a service center local to you, more than likely they can point you to a local bike shop that Rad has a relationship with and they will take care of the warranty work.

At the very least, you will have the answer to where to go for warranty repairs with the replacement Rad bike.
