I never thought of velcro. That's a great idea. I could put one side of the velcro to the glue on the lights and put another on the cargo rack and the bike rack then just move the lights whenever needed.
Thank you for the idea.

Rad Modifications / RW4 and Ballard Cargo Bags
December 04, 2022, 10:32:18 AM
Has anyone mounted the large basket plus the Ballard Cargo Bags on the rear of their RW4? I received the bags yesterday and discovered they can't be put on the bike when the large basket is installed. I'm very disappointed as I would think Rad would/should have designed something to make it possible to use both items simultaneously. It is a cargo bike after all.
Once it warms up enough to work in my unheated garage I'm going to investigate some method of raising the basket so I can get the top hooks on the cargo frame. I wish Rad already had something designed so it could be done. If someone else has already done it could you share what you did?

JimInPT I agree with you about the price. I know I'm late to the party but the ones you mentioned are now $209 CAD. Wow. The lights you show you are using are nice too and much more reasonable.
I've been looking for something to use for my auto cargo basket and my bike rack when I get one over this winter. Unfortunately I can't use magnetic ones on my cargo rack. The setup the OP shows look perfect for me and they are only around $50, shipping and taxes included. Lights, signals and stop lights. Nice!
I'm going to order two of them when I order the bike rack.

General Chat / Re: New Rad Model Coming 12/6

I can't tell what the bike is from the pictures as the whole thing is mostly just black. However, I would LOVE to see a RW with 20 inch tires so we're not stuck with one off type tires.

RadWagon / Black Friday sale?
November 26, 2022, 09:47:32 AM
On a whim, and Black Friday is coming up, I logged onto the Canadian Rad site to see what was for sale, out of stock etc. I just bought two of the Ballard cargo bags for my RW4 as they are on sale. I've been looking for cargo bags for my RW since I bought it last year and they've never been on sale. I'm happy.  :)

Tree, that airtag holder looks good. Small, simple and not obvious. Nice.

It would be great if it was mounted more permanent but overall a good idea.

DrSmile, I remember that post and that's a good reminder. If your bike has a wobble, vibration etc and everything checks out then perhaps change the tires. Purchase good quality tires as it's potentially the last thing to look at and not overly expensive. It may solve the problem as it did for you.

Yes, that's what they tried to call it as well, brokers fees. No one else charges brokers fees, at least not in my experience.

One could check out the Tagbox from Pinhead. I haven't ordered one but eventually I might.

I live in BC and had a similar issue with UPS when I ordered a Gzilla bottle carrier. The price included shipping. It was expensive with the dollar conversion etc but I really liked the design so I ordered it.
When UPS contacted me about the increased shipping costs I refused to accept it. However they brought it to me anyway hoping, I think, that customers would take it anyhow. When it arrived the UPS driver said they "needed" additional money for shipping but I refused it. They didn't have any realistic explanation for the extra shipping fees especially considering shipping was already included at purchase.
I felt like they were trying to rip off their Canadian customers so I felt they could eat the cost of shipping it to me and then returning it.
If I have to buy anything else from the US I will stipulate NO UPS or else I won't buy it.

I bought some handlebar mitts from Rad for my RW4 and they work well. I've ridden in 0 C (32 F) with light gloves and it was fine. You may want to try them out as well.

General Chat / Re: wattage on LCD panel

The wattage on my original Rad display was always reliable. Same for the display on my 25 and 35 amp controllers. My Phaserunner display is accurate on all eleven PAS levels, but since it has dynamic pedal assist, it provides more power when starting out or going up hills.

Hi Altema,
Is your Phaserunner a controller and display or just the display? Did you get it from Grin Technologies in Vancouver BC? I like that the one you have has dynamic pedal assist even though we don't have torque sensors on our Rad bikes. My RW4 could use the upgrade even though overall it has adequate power.

FWIW my bike has pretty consistent PAS levels. PAS 1 - 72 watts, PAS 2 - 178, PAS 3 - 300 etc. As the battery goes down in voltage my PAS levels drop too which I presume is normal.

That's a nice lift/rack. We use a similar one for lifting our kayak and storing it at roof level. It's rated at 120 pounds but it would definitely work for a cycle. Maintenance or storage. Good idea.

If you are working in the garage and have some space at the ceiling you could get one of these ceiling lifts to pull up a bike.

There are various models out there.

I just went out and counted the front sprocket on my RW4 and it's a 45 tooth sprocket. If one wanted a relatively cheap way to allow "hill" climbing with their RW4 one could either install a two sprocket front derailleur system and have a small inner sprocket or just put a smaller one on in place of the standard one on there now.
