RadRover / Re: RR 6Plus speed and wattage upgrade ??
January 23, 2022, 12:41:49 PM
Hi Radding along,
I live in Canada and they have limited our wattage to 500 watts. We don't have an option of purchasing over 500 watts for a cycle that is going to be used on the road.

RadRunner / Re: Wheel size in display settings

I measured my wheel and tire diameter on my Radwagon4. They come with 22 inch by 3.3 inch tires and their overall diameter is 24 inches. So I believe your 20 inch by 3.3 inch tires would measure out to 22 inches as pointed out by Radding Along and FortunatelyTheMilk.
When the weather permits and because of curiosity I will check my 22 inch tire setting in my display with my GPS and my phone GPS units to see how accurate it is. Who knows, maybe I'll change it to 24 inch?  :-)

Rad Modifications / Re: chain guard RadWagon 4?
January 21, 2022, 03:00:07 PM
Belgium83,
I can't give you a yes to either of your questions. However I also own a RadWagon4 and have noted the chain will sometimes come off of the front sprocket. It's only happened three times and only while I was pedalling lightly in seventh gear. If that's one of your issues, thus the questions you have, my fix is going to be to install a front derailleur somewhere along the top run of the chain in order to keep it lined up with the front sprocket.
Not sure if this helps you or not but I hope so.

General Chat / Re: Bike Lock
January 14, 2022, 08:42:46 AM
Jbfoster, that's what I used to do with my first 10 speed. I had it for a couple of decades and never left it alone.
I also understand everyone else's point of view. With my current ebike I have a Kryptonite chain lock. I'm going to get a U lock too.
Actually a company, I think they are called Hip Lock, makes a U lock that is designed specifically to resist grinder attacks. Look them up. They make what appears to be a good quality lock, it is strong and it resists grinding attacks.

this is a nice design. How ever as i am in canada i am unable to get it

I live in Canada and ordered one of them so I know you can get one. I love the design and was even willing to pay the extra with the conversion to Canadian dollars from US. It would have cost me $90 as the cost plus shipping was $70 US.
I refused to take it when it arrived as UPS wanted an additional $40 for shipping. I told them I had already paid shipping but they said it wasn't enough. So I refused it and had them return it!

How often you guys lube your chain?

Jim

I lightly clean and lube my chain every time I ride in slushy snow and/or rain. I also, every spring, take off my chain and totally clean and lube my chain and sprockets.
I use a rag to wipe the chain off and an old toothbrush to scrub my chain. I use whatever lube is available from the bikeshop. I don't remember what it's called but the current lube I have is designed specifically for use in wet weather.

I think you're correct and 22-in wheels are supposed to be the default. However I don't understand this.
Is there a way for anyone to check on their rad runner plus the wheel size and the display settings?

You have a RadRunner Plus, correct? According to Rads website it has 20 X 3.3 inch tires and wheels so the factory settings are supposed to be 20 inch. If you are looking for the actual diameter of your tires/wheels used on your bike you will need to measure them as each wheel size will be dependant on the tire itself.
To get the most accurate setting you will then need to compare the speed shown on the computer to a GPS unit. However, between each unit, each GPS unit may show a different speed and each bike computer may show a different speed as they are not totally accurate amongst themselves either. It is my unlooked for opinion, however, that the bike computer is close enough. Simply set your tire size to whatever gets you close enough to the GPS unit.
The 22 inch tire size mentioned is standard on the Radwagon 4 and not on any other bike so they are not used on the RadRunner Plus.

Yes, thank you. Very well explained.

Hesedguy do you have a RadWagon3 or RadWagon4 as the RadWagon4 already comes with a geared hub motor?

General Chat / Re: Insurance for e-bike thoughts?
December 30, 2021, 10:30:01 AM
Tree, I agree. Velosurance appears to be a decent insurance company. I also looked into a company called Oasis Pedal Power insurance as they cover bikes in Canada too. Not sure yet which one I'll go with but I am going to contact them soon and make my choice.
I have my RW4 insured through my homeowner plan and I have it registered with Bike Index. However, my homeowner policy doesn't completely cover my bike and accessories. I'm also concerned about their coverage if I upgrade my controller or motor because then it's no longer "officially" (maybe?) a 500 watt e-cycle.

I live in Canada and my insurance company told me the same as JimInPT.
My homeowners insurance told me all I will have to do, in the event my bike is stolen, is prove I bought it and it is going to be covered.
They do have some limitations however. It must be 500 watts or less and it must have cost $3000.00 or less, accessories are not included. So they don't insure my bike and all of it's accessories.
I'm still going to try to find an insurance company that will completely insure my bike and if it was ever stolen it would be totally covered. I don't have any issues with proof of accessories etc as I take pictures every time I make changes.

ABUS Wheel Lock 5650L NR <-- is this article compatible with radwagon ? I would like to know if you managed to install it on a radwagon.
I would like to know that too as I have a RW4 and would love to have some kind of wheel lock on it.

Rad Modifications / Re: Different wheels/tires for RW4?
December 17, 2021, 12:40:30 PM
Rad Power bikes already answered my questions about RadRunner Plus wheels and tires.

The front wheel and tire, complete is about $210.00 after taxes.
The rear wheel, tire and hub drive is about $440.00 after taxes.

Those are Canadian prices and that's not bad considering the amount of time I would need to source new wheels, spokes, axles, hub drive etc and then lace both wheels up. I am definitely going to keep it in mind. In the meantime I'm going to begin putting some money aside.  :)

Rad Modifications / Re: Different wheels/tires for RW4?
December 16, 2021, 09:44:27 PM
I did a bit more looking at wheel and tire options today and noticed the RadRunner Plus has the same size drop outs front and rear as the RW4. I think I am going to contact Rad to see what the price for a set of wheels and tires would be for the RadRunner Plus.
It might be worth it to look at buying them instead of trying to get some wheels, make sure they can handle the weight, getting new spokes and then lacing up the wheel etc.
Veggyhed, I also hope you are right about Rad going to 20 inch wheels for the RW4. They went from 26" wheels on the original RW's down to 22 in order to lower the centre of gravity and make the cargo bike handle a bit better. Maybe going to 20 inch wheels might do the same?
