Try setting PEdal assist to zero then it will freewheel.

General Chat / Seattle To Portland Ride
December 13, 2022, 12:54:38 AM
In Seattle once a year they have a 226 mile two day bike ride called The STP. I have ridden in on a road bike but that was when I was younger. It's hilly off and on the entire ride.

Considering riding it on a Rad City 5 Plus. I have access to 3 batteries but don?t plan on carrying one rather have a support person drop one off at various sites.

I have found that performance wise, when going down hill and turning pedal assist to zero it lets the bike free wheel and I suppose save battery?  There are stops every 15-20 miles along the way.

Any thoughts or suggestions about methods to use?

General Chat / Re: Rad bike seats

Do you think the seat post ?give? lessens the inertia when pedaling. Like say going uphill sitting down with the shock seat post do you use more energy pedalling? Sorry if I am using the wrong terminology p.

I have tried multiple seats and the one I like the most is the Serfas Tailbone TBM-30. Softer than Cloud 9 and softer than Rad?s upgraded seat. It?s also nicer than the Pedego upgraded seat and also Schwinns too. And yes I bought all of the seats tried them and then returned them.

Curt sells a kit that is pre wired just plugs into a standard trailer plug. I just zip tied them onto my Hollywood rack. I think it was about $30.

Indeed poor visibility with two bikes on . I added the Curt led light kit. Was less than $30 on amazon as I recall. The day I took the above picture was the first day I bought the bikes. Highly recommend adding led turn signal s for safety and also getting stopped by police. I just set bike on rack for picture.

RadCity / Re: Rad city bike hanging on a bike rack

I seriously doubt it. Lots of risk hanging a ebike on a non EBike rack. If a weld breaks on the rack you likely will lose or damage the bike and vehicle. Although expensive, the best rack by far in my opinion is the Hollywood Sport Rider HR1500 which will hold rbikes up to 80 lbs each. I have a buddy who has the KAC knockoff version of the Hollywood rack but it is nowhere near as sturdy and does sway some during turns and bumps. Sure they cost about $500 but your bike is secure.

General Chat / Freestanding two EBike rack

Does anyone know of a freestanding bike rack that can hold two Radcity5 plus bikes? I would think there is something out there. Unfortunately I don't have room to place them on a wall rack.

PV Bike Works Squeal out works great. Spoke to a bike mechanic as my Radcity5 plus did the same thing. First clean the rotor with rubbing alcohol. I put it in a spray bottle then took a cloth to wipe off. Be careful it's sharp around the rotor. You put this squeal out on the rotor and get some into the brake pad area too. Smear it on with your finger again be careful it's sharp around the rotor. Then ride bike on the flat and apply brakes to work it in. Brakes will be slippery so do on the flat. Then bring bike back and wipe off all of the squeal out. Use rubbing alcohol again to get all the squeal out off. Then take a air compressor to blow out any debris on the brake pads themselves. Might have to repeat twice but I didn't. There is a YouTube video on applying squeal out. Mechanic told me that is the only brand that worked for him. Sold on Amazon. Don't need a big jar.

Rad bikes sells the battery terminal cover on their site I just bought two. $5 ea. The battery case they sell fits the battery quite well too.

A trick I learned from this video applies to other bike racks too. Basically you position the bike next to the rack and pop a  "wheelie"  while holding the rear brake and pulling backward and then placing the front wheel into the rack. I do this with the battery removed to save weight.

For what it's worth I have the new Hollywood EBike rack and have found it very easy to get the bikes into the rack at least on my Sequoia.

For pavement riding exclusively, what PSI would you recommend on these bikes? Tire sidewall says 35-65 PSI.

General Chat / Storing bike with battery installed

If storing a Radcity5 Plus bike for say a couple of weeks or more is it better to take the battery out of the bike? I know some batteries have a parasitic draw if left in a vehicle didn't know if same for bike.
