i heard that mobil 28 is a good grease for the gears in ebike motors and i was wondering if there is a version or alternative that comes in a squeeze tube similar to what toothpaste comes in?

because most tubes require a dispenser gun that connects to machine with nipple.

Rad Modifications / motor phase wires awg
July 28, 2023, 05:37:49 AM
i was wondering what awg does the julet octagon wire use for the phase wires?

i just upgraded the motor to the true 750 watt motor and i notice the wire gets hot and causes the motor sensor wires to not make good connection because i get sensor fault errors when ever the motor is under heavy load so i had to turn the c5 to 6 in order to reduce the current to the motor and i was wondering what size wires do they use for the phase wires?

is there a way to fit thicker wires onto the motor sice the wires come through the axel say 10 awg because it looks like they 12 or 14 awg

can bike tires spin on the rim?

i thought when you inflate a bike tire the tube would hold the tire in place so it cant spin and rub a hole in the tube.

i have repaired flats where there was nohing in the tire to cause a puncture but i have seen scratches on the tube consistent with the tire rotating on the rim so i suspect maybe the tire spins a little on the rim.

Service & Repair / radwagon 4 tires
June 11, 2023, 06:37:03 AM
seeing that radpowerbikes.com is out of stock on replacement tires and some people claiming that the Shinko SR241 18x2.75 tire fits since rad uses the outside diameter for the size and the auto and motorcycle industry uses the rim diameter makes me wonder if other ebikes like lectric and such has tires that would fit even if they call them something else?

the radwagon 4 rim is 18 inch diameter so i wonder if any other ebike brand uses 18 by 3 or something tires.

Service & Repair / radwagon 4 hub motor replacement
August 12, 2022, 01:09:49 PM
i just had to order a new rear wheel to complete with tube, tire and freewheel cog because they dont carry the planetary gear assembly separately.

i was wondering if anyone has replaced the planetary gear assembly and does rad use the same hub as

https://www.area13ebikes.com/products/bafang-750-watt-replacement-planetary-gears

or know what gears they use?

they just started to make a grinding noise today and i have over 5000 miles witch rad said that is about the life of the motor

thanks

Rad Modifications / radwagon 4 tubeless conversion
July 24, 2021, 04:40:44 PM
i was wondering if it is possible to convert the radwagon 4 to tubeless?

i know there are tubeless conversion tape and sealants that part is not too much problem the big problem is if they make tubeless ready tires in the 22x3 that the radwagon 4 uses.

Rad Modifications / tannus armor cutting
June 09, 2021, 07:32:55 AM
in the instructions for the tannus armor what would happen if you dont trim the tannus tire liner?

why do you have to cut it?

i connected a 12s battery module from a chevy volt to the radwagon (stock electrics (display, controller and motor)) using

https://boltonebikes.com/collections/electrical-accessories/products/radpower-battery-adapter

witch allows after market batteries using xt90 connectors to be used on rad bikes.

while everything works perfectly the usb port on the display does not work.

i was wondering is there some signal being modulated over the power from the battery to tell the display to disable the usb port or is it that rad display detected 1 bar used on the battery meter due to the fact that the battery i am using is only 12s instead of 13s so to conserve the battery it disables the port or did i blow the dc to dc converter by the inrush spark (before i made up the anti spark adaptor to go inline between the battery and the controller)?

fortunately i have a power bank so i was able to charge my phone while on yard sale runs and i am willing to use a power bank if rad disables the port.

Service & Repair / radwagon 4 wheel sizes
April 10, 2021, 12:02:28 PM
i know that the tire width is custom size but what about the rim diameter as well as the effective rim diameter because when it comes time to replace tires will normal childs mountain bike tires work? as often childs mountain bikes use sizes from  18 to 24 inches depending on the age range and size of the bike.

and what about the spokes.

i have not gotten my radwagon 4 assembled yet as i got it during the winter  but when i get it assembled and going eventually the inevitable will happen i will need to replace broken spokes and i was wondering if the spokes are standard lengths so custom length would not have to be cut and threaded.

can above product be used on bike chains safely?  it was recommended by skunk lock to maintain a working keyway.

Rad Modifications / radwagon 4 wheels not so proprietary?
September 23, 2020, 10:16:53 AM
i got to looking at the geometry of the radwagon and it looks like the wheels are not as proprietarily sized like once thought

it looks like they may be using standard 20 inch rims i wont know until i get mine in november and i do some fitment testing.

i suspect this because the stand over hight is very close to the wheel size and i think removing the rear fender may allow 24 or even 20 inch tires to be used.

i am thinking of replacing the rear wheel  with a direct drive hub for regen and a 20 inch rim to use a standard bmx or child sized bike wheel and then using a mid drive or even a motor connected to a sprocket used for gas bikes that connects to the disk brake mount for power.

i do scrap metal recycling and pull an appliance dolly and go to yard sales and have to pull heavy loads and go up steep hils and the power and regen would be nice.

i hear you saying "there are no radwagon 4 on the road yet"  actually there are just starting to be radwagon 4s from early orders being delivered now and some reviewers for youtube and ebr site that got theirs early for reviews who want to probably do the same mods and can be guinea pigs for testing different size wheels.

maybe even someone can tell me if it can handle a full fat tire seeing that it looks like the hub is a rebranded bafang g60 750 watt motor witch is a fat bike motor.

there is a failure of the bafang bbshd where one of the nylon gears melt and strip out when put under heavy loads for a long time i was wondering if a similar thing happens to the bafang hub that rad uses if the gears wear out very quickly when under heavy load for long times like climbing up steep long hills?

#13
has anyone cracked open a rad battery and how many series cells are there in the newer rad batteries?

or has anyone taken a volt meter to a battery fresh off the charger or to the charger?

because will the rad motor and controller handle a 14s battery?

Rad Modifications / rad 750 watt motor gear ratio
August 29, 2020, 09:48:12 AM
i know that the radwagon 4 is not out yet but other rad bikes i assume use the same hub motor so does anyone know what the reduction ratio of the motor is?

also what motor do they use? are they just relabeling 8fun/bafang motors like the voltbike mariner bikes do?

i am thinking i may have to add a mid drive like the cyclone original 48 volt 1600 watt version.

if the motor is the same bafang then it is possible that the freewheel mount could be sheared off by the torque so i may have to use the brake disk mount instead as they are stronger.

Rad Modifications / 24 or 20 inch wheel on radwagon4
August 23, 2020, 05:19:32 PM
i was wondering if the radwagon 4 can take a 24 or 20 inch wheel if it will fit?

i am thinking of getting a radwagon 4 but it comes with a geared motor and i want direct drive for regen to save brake pads.

i was wondering if anyone else has tried it or willing to try it to see if it would work.
