Rad Modifications / Re: Compatible kickstand for Radwagon?
September 13, 2023, 07:38:40 AM
the yuba kickstand mounts with 2 bolts and the rad mounts with 1 bolt so i doubt it would work

i have radwagon 4 and never had any issues with the spokes even with the weight of chevy volt battery module and the occasional heavy load of pulling an appliance dolly with a refrigerator or washing machine.

either the radwagon 4 used better spokes or you got a bad run of spokes

i heard that mobil 28 is a good grease for the gears in ebike motors and i was wondering if there is a version or alternative that comes in a squeeze tube similar to what toothpaste comes in?

because most tubes require a dispenser gun that connects to machine with nipple.

06 allows the display to show the correct speed and milage on the upgraded motor otherwise the speed is inverted (may have to do with that the connector connects 1/8 turn off).

I thought the odometer and speedometer had nothing to do with motor phase classification. I thought they used pulses from one or more magnets that rotated with the wheel. (On some bikes, the magnets are outside the motor case, on the spokes.) P2 lets you say how many magnets you have, and DIM lets you say the tire diameter.

it may do that but i noticed in the beginning that the speed would differ from the external speed/milage indicator i added.

i set up the external meter mainly because the stock display would not remember the trip after being turned off and once i upgraded while the external meter shows 20 mph the upgrade display showed 17 mph but when i set the p2 to 0 then both speed indicators showed the same speed.

and a correction: the c2 was actually 0 not 06 sorry for the mistake.

and another correction i thought the display did not have the blue ring but it does i must not have payed attention before so yes it is the same display it is just that it is possible to program the display to display custom image when it turns on.

c2 is set to 06 witch is for the upgraded motor

the display is KT-LCD8H display i think it was part of the area13 upgrade kit and displays the area13 logo on turn on instead of the blue ring all the time like the pictures show.

and c2 of 05 is for the stock motor.

06 allows the display to show the correct speed and milage on the upgraded motor otherwise the speed is inverted (may have to do with that the connector connects 1/8 turn off).

by running the motor on 06 does that cause phase conflicts witch is causing the heating when it is under heavy load like going up long hills?

or is 00 running the motor in sensorless mode where the back emf is used for sensing instead of hall sensors?

Rad Modifications / motor phase wires awg
July 28, 2023, 05:37:49 AM
i was wondering what awg does the julet octagon wire use for the phase wires?

i just upgraded the motor to the true 750 watt motor and i notice the wire gets hot and causes the motor sensor wires to not make good connection because i get sensor fault errors when ever the motor is under heavy load so i had to turn the c5 to 6 in order to reduce the current to the motor and i was wondering what size wires do they use for the phase wires?

is there a way to fit thicker wires onto the motor sice the wires come through the axel say 10 awg because it looks like they 12 or 14 awg

can bike tires spin on the rim?

i thought when you inflate a bike tire the tube would hold the tire in place so it cant spin and rub a hole in the tube.

i have repaired flats where there was nohing in the tire to cause a puncture but i have seen scratches on the tube consistent with the tire rotating on the rim so i suspect maybe the tire spins a little on the rim.

Service & Repair / radwagon 4 tires
June 11, 2023, 06:37:03 AM
seeing that radpowerbikes.com is out of stock on replacement tires and some people claiming that the Shinko SR241 18x2.75 tire fits since rad uses the outside diameter for the size and the auto and motorcycle industry uses the rim diameter makes me wonder if other ebikes like lectric and such has tires that would fit even if they call them something else?

the radwagon 4 rim is 18 inch diameter so i wonder if any other ebike brand uses 18 by 3 or something tires.

1. i had a blowout at about 1500 miles on the first replacement tire.

when i got the bike the original tire lasted about 1500 miles and then the sidewall was ripping so i replaced the tire.

the replacement tire lasted about 1400 miles and the same thing started happening so i ordered the replacement tire and before the new tire came in it blew.

fortunately it was the rear tire and i was going slow as i was going up a hill.

i just ordered the motorcycle tire by shinko because this time the front tire is showing the red/green wear indicator  so this will be. a test of of shinko tires would work.

over the 3 years i had the bike i put almost 7500 miles on it doing yard sales and scrap metal recycling .

i have heard on a youtube video that Shinko  SR241 18x2.75 works

so if it works for me then when i need to replace the rear tire i will look to get the 3 inch version of the Shinko  SR241 18 inch tire.

as of your blowout within 15 minutes it probably was install error whenever re inflating a tire i always inspect the bead all around on both sides while inflating and if the bead comes off then deflate and re seat the tire.

also deflating and squeezing the tire and re inflating helps get the tube to settle in place

Service & Repair / radwagon 4 hub motor replacement
August 12, 2022, 01:09:49 PM
i just had to order a new rear wheel to complete with tube, tire and freewheel cog because they dont carry the planetary gear assembly separately.

i was wondering if anyone has replaced the planetary gear assembly and does rad use the same hub as

https://www.area13ebikes.com/products/bafang-750-watt-replacement-planetary-gears

or know what gears they use?

they just started to make a grinding noise today and i have over 5000 miles witch rad said that is about the life of the motor

thanks

Rad Modifications / radwagon 4 tubeless conversion
July 24, 2021, 04:40:44 PM
i was wondering if it is possible to convert the radwagon 4 to tubeless?

i know there are tubeless conversion tape and sealants that part is not too much problem the big problem is if they make tubeless ready tires in the 22x3 that the radwagon 4 uses.

bikes like other products  are usually tested to failure and the max specs are usually set low enough to give a very good safety margin.

however there is a point when you start overloading the bike you should get some kind of warning of overload like for example you will get the unstable feeling you get when the tires get low or you are riding in and out of ruts in the road.

i should know because i power my radwagon from chevy volt battery module and i recycle scrap metal and i picked up a window air conditioner and dehumidifier and had them on the rear rack and when i would start off i got that same unstable feeling so i had to ride slowly and carefully home and once the load was removed the handling went back to normal.

you may be able to get more weight on if you add more air to the tires but i have not tried it so i am not sure if that would help so a warning i would not recommend you trying it unless you are prepared to stop immediately and remove the extra weight and i would not recommend going very fast either as it could be a safety issue.

update:  after some investigation the usb is not disabled or blown it happens that if nothing is connected to save on energy king display and rad turns off the usb port unless you connect something with the bike off and then turn on the bike by witch point then the port works.

it looks like king display and rad just like the auto industry thinks they can "squeeze blood from a rock" and turns off certaing things to save energy just like the auto industry does by ommitting the spare tire or the jack or changing the power steering from hydraulics to electric to save milage

so whew!!! i thought the. port was broken

Rad Modifications / tannus armor cutting
June 09, 2021, 07:32:55 AM
in the instructions for the tannus armor what would happen if you dont trim the tannus tire liner?

why do you have to cut it?

i connected a 12s battery module from a chevy volt to the radwagon (stock electrics (display, controller and motor)) using

https://boltonebikes.com/collections/electrical-accessories/products/radpower-battery-adapter

witch allows after market batteries using xt90 connectors to be used on rad bikes.

while everything works perfectly the usb port on the display does not work.

i was wondering is there some signal being modulated over the power from the battery to tell the display to disable the usb port or is it that rad display detected 1 bar used on the battery meter due to the fact that the battery i am using is only 12s instead of 13s so to conserve the battery it disables the port or did i blow the dc to dc converter by the inrush spark (before i made up the anti spark adaptor to go inline between the battery and the controller)?

fortunately i have a power bank so i was able to charge my phone while on yard sale runs and i am willing to use a power bank if rad disables the port.
