General Chat / Re: Signs A Battery Is Dying
May 13, 2022, 10:58:49 AM
I thank everyone for their replies and I have contacted RAD as I also felt this battery is defective as it's not holding a charge.
Their customer service was excellent. They had me take pictures and a video of the battery showing that it lights-up???
Not sure why, but waiting for a "battery specialist" to get back to me.
Thanks for your help

General Chat / Signs A Battery Is Dying
May 11, 2022, 08:23:54 AM
On my Rad 6-Plus battery, I have noticed that the driving distance has decreased dramatically. I weigh 155 pounds, always ride on flat asphalt roadway and only ride on level assist 2 or 3 and rarely use the throttle. During the first 100 miles, I was averaging 35 miles on a fully charged battery. During the last month after riding 900 miles, I have averaged only 14 miles per full charge. Any suggestions ? Is the battery dying ? Did I do something wrong ? Battery defective ?  Thanks Joe Florida

Hello-
Reliable bike shops near to you that work on E-Bikes
David's World Cycle
Orlando
or try the several E-Bike stores near The Villages.

Hello -
In lieu of paying over $ 600 for a back-up Rad Semi-Integrated Battery Pack,
does anyone know of any site that sells a similar generic RAD battery pack?
Thanks

General Chat / Re: RadCity 5 plus dead battery?

I would seriously consider a replacement bike under their 14 day return policy for all new bikes with under 10 miles on the odometer. You "possibly" have an issue with the electrical controller especially if you have a fully charged battery and there is no power to the bike. Also no reason why you need to change-out major components on a brand new bike. In my opinion, cancel the order, return the bike and ask for another. If Rad is having so many problems with their quality control, then they have a major problem on their hands. Apparently this is a very common problem with their 5Plus. Good Luck. BTW- All Rad bikes are shipped with batteries partially charged so if you have no power to the bike, then you have another issue than the charger being faulty.

Greetings-

Obviously I can't say with a 100% certainty, but allow me to provide a piece of advice.
If after checking ""ALL"" your wire connections and assuming you assembled your bike properly, then you
""PROBABLY'' have an issue with the controller. Unfortunately Rad has no controllers in stock for the
RadCity 5 Plus ( I learned the hard way ). Even if Rad is able to send you another controller, reject-it as it may not solve your problem.
Do not use the bike and immediately request for a return under their 14 day return policy.
I went through two RadCity 5 Plus and they definitely have an issue with quality control.
I just bought a 6Plus and its working great.
BTW - Rad has excellent customer service and they will help, even on Saturdays.

Are you saying that ALL RadPowerBike keys are generic and the same key will open ALL the bikes?
If so, where can one buy purchase a spare key? Are the keys able to be duplicated at your local
hardware store?

General Chat / RadRover 6Plus display
March 02, 2022, 07:13:50 AM
Greetings -
On my new RadRover 6 Plus my handlebar display indicates 8 bars of power available
and on the battery display it indicates 6 bars of power available.
Which one is correct and is this an item of concern? Thanks

It took three City 5's but I got 50 miles on the 3rd... so far so good. ALMOST went for the RR 6 but the fat tires...

Like yourself, I always went through three bikes before I got lucky on number 3.
Without a doubt, Rad's customer service was great and their return policy is excellent, but really; three bikes sent to get only one to work.

@machina77

Thanks for the information and the linky. I had no idea that Europe had such stringent laws and regulations regarding bicycles.
Here in the States, I pay for something called uninsured motorist insurance which is in addition to regular car insurance
which essentially buys insurance for those who choose not to properly insure themselves.
Glad that Europe forces all motorist to properly insure themselves and to be financially responsible for themselves.
Be Safe.

General Chat / Re: Minimizing flats

To maximize your ride and to minimize flats are contradictory.

I think high pressure reduces rolling resistance - allowing to you go further on one charge.  I assume that is what you mean by maximize your ride.  I think people in the tour de france use pressures close to 80 or 100 psi.  Not suggesting you do the same but there are probably benefits up to that pressure.  Of course, you need tires that can handle such pressure.  They used to go to 120 psi but for some reason they don't do 120 psi anymore.

A blowout due to high inflation can really hurt you - don't try it. It can blow up in your face or fingers when you are inflating.  Also, when you are going at speed, suddenly losing pressure in your tire due to a blowout can kill you.  My CVT tires says 30 psi on the sidewall and that's what I use.

Lower pressure reduces flats.  But you can't have both high pressure and low pressure.  You can use slime or something similar inside the tube or use some armor tape outside the tube to reduce flats.

The tires, not the tubes, determine your maximum pressure so you higher pressure rated tires for higher pressure.
Thanks, so what is the maximum pressure one can ride safely? Is it 30 or 33 or 27 ?

My weight is 160 pounds, always ride on roadways and wondering which pressure I should use to maximize my ride and minimize my risk for flats.
I wonder if I can pressurize the tires over 30 pounds to the mid 30 range?
Are there any tubes in the 26 x 4 range that I can raise the pressure to over 30 pounds?

To me it is power, not speed that is an issue to me. the EU limit is 25kph (15.5mph) I have no problem with that as i only need assistance, i can use leg power to get faster, but limiting the motor to 250w is far too weak for such a heavy bike (Radrunner) and rider (13.8 stone) surely a minimum of 750w or 500w is more desirable for pedalecs to be of any use in hilly areas?

Hello and question please. @machina77
Are the Rad and all E-Bikes sold in Europe limited to 250 watts ?
Does Rad sell a different type of bike in Europe to accommodate the European market ?
Are the Rad's sold in Europe not capable of increasing their power by the customer within the display ?
Seriously, what would happened if a European had a more powerful bike ? Get arrested / fined by the bike police ?

General Chat / Extending Battery Life
February 20, 2022, 07:00:57 AM
Greetings -

I have read, but don't understand about not fully charging nor depleting the battery charge in order to extend the battery life.
Can anyone please explain what is balancing a new battery as some here have suggested not to and some have suggested to
balance a new battery and how does one balance a battery anyways? Any other ideas in extending battery life. Thanks  Joe Florida

RadCity / Re: Rad City 5 Plus European Model

@ brian1208

Congrats on the purchase of your new RadCity 5 Plus "European" version purchase.
"I" believe your bike is identical to the version sold in the states.
Google search, Rad Bike speed hack or
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0z6VF2LzUD8&t=2s
and this may solve your issue.
Good Luck !
