I like the nomenclature I've learned; I'm just skimming this topic.  I'm not intimidated by the "mafia" I join in their events.  I know my "round trip" requirements. I ride to that level.  They are polite to me and actually very interested in my beast.  I have a RR+ with 2 batteries, using a DATEX-3.  I have a range near 70 miles.  I haven't pushed farther than that.

OK, the "speeders" don't give a rats, but I don't much care about them.  We're all members of our State Group, "Iowa Bicycle Collation." It is a big, inclusive, and "happy happy joy joy" group.

Iowa is the home of RAGBRAI, where everyone and anyone is welcome.  The last week of July is not for the weak of heart, or weak heart.  That's another story.

Rad Modifications / Re: Dual Battery

Contact Gareth at "Biggamebikes.com." He has the DATEX-2 (allowing for two batteries) and the DATEX-3, allowing for three batteries.  Voltage doesn't matter, and neither does WH.

I have the standard Rad battery on my RR+.  I added a 17.5 W battery from BGB.  My range is nearly 70 miles. I haven't pushed it. I also got the BGB DATEX-3. I have an idea for another power system on a trailer for travel.  Another 48V battery, a Flexible 200w solar panel, and a charge controller connected to the 3rd port on the DATEX-3.

go to biggamebikes.com, chat, or talk to Gareth.  His batteries are Samsung cores, and he ships them directly.  He has a bunch of RAD accessories at decent prices.   Those come from London, UK, but I've found it worth it!!!

Clever location for the DATEX3, and the capped blanks were an excellent idea.

I printed those caps with TPU, it was a bit porus at the few layers.  I used the "liquid rubber" product.  Painting it on the ends of the covers.  No problems in 6 months.

You're about to become an "EBike Engineer."

I know those 22" tires are given (go away).  You can add a suspension fork, and you have to figure out which one.   Adding a 2nd or 3rd battery is easy.  That frame has plenty of mount points.  Upgrade the rear motor to a 1000-1500w.  Maybe add a front motor?  You'll need a new controller.   Perhaps (the best solution) a DATEX device (from biggamebikes dot com) load balances all batteries and could even include a single charging port.  It depends on the battery.  RAD will not sell a battery plate.  There are reverse-engineered battery plate templates on Thingiverse dot com for 3D Printing.  Suspension seat post!

You've got lots of measuring, calling, emailing, and pondering unless you find someone who's already done this... hard to say.  There are not quite ten e-bike forums that I've found.  Let Google be your guide.  Hang out at your local e-bike shop. Bring them treats, don't be annoying. My local shop has a "reading room," which is fantastic!

Happy learning!

I have a problem with my grip on one hand.  I'm finally sending it to a local bike shop.  Else I'm looking at the Long Range "Lectric" bikes.  They have a nice accessory set too!   What to do with this TANK?

RAD doesn't release part specifications at the component (drawing) level.  Like many manufacturers do.

Their "phone support" team all now nave keyboards for "chat".  Their SIP phone system died.  Hopefully "early" next week, it will be up.  It's going to be an interesting "lessons' learned" meeting Tuesday or Wednesday.  OUTCH!

If you call sales, you get told to go to "support.rpb.com".  If you call SUPPORT, you get told to go to support.rpb.com & click on chat.  I'm currently #31 inline.

What is going on?

anyone else?

push this question to the top of the "General" tab...

That's right, the "ride out" is faster than the "ride back" plus or minus points for wind.

I don't know how much 3-D printing costs, but I suggest spending the $109 and buy a new display because then you have a backup and you will save time. A custom made 3D printing or even driving somewhere to talk to somebody to get it done may be more expensive - but I confess I don't know anything about 3D printing.

This is not optimal but it is just a square box. Maybe you can use a cell phone holder to hold your display?  It will fit your handlebar right. Even if it does not fit the display right, you can glue it with some adhesive from bathroom caulking, to epoxy, to those stickies used for Go Pro.

Just a suggestion.

A very popular depository for 3D printed parts is "thingiverse dot com".   All the models there are posted under the "creative commons" license.  Free for personal use.  Permission must be obtained to use commercially!

Folks have posted a variety of useful and novelty parts for RAD machines there.  search either "radpower" or "rad power" there are different search results.

I found a headlight mounting bracket that works better on my front basket.  It allows mounting the light flush with the basket front.  My time to "setup" the part and print it was probably 20 hours.  Many failed test prints, that's how 3D printing works.  Once I dialed in the part to my printer and type of filament I ended up with a wonderful part.  "filament cost" under 50 cents.

I'm just starting to learn to use the CAD programs, FreeCAD is probably one of the best "cross platform" (Windows, Mac, Linux) programs there is!   IMHO.

Service & Repair / Re: Error 30 Rad Rover 6 Plus
March 04, 2023, 06:44:36 PM
I'm chasing this error across my power network.  I live in Iowa, it's still "winterish" here.  Winterish can go until May some times.  I'm putting a dielectric grease in every connector.  Just a little insurance.

Good luck on your "error 30 hunt".... what a PIA!

I tucked my "TILE - Button" under my controller. It's just a "black bump" way under there...  I may add another to a fender; that's a good idea too.

The rest of the photo's won't post, but you get the jist.  My plan is to have a Burley Trailer, a Felxible Solar Pannel, and a  power converter in the trailer...
