Title: Owners: what is you essential carry on? Tube, tools anything you've learned.
Post by: 1Eye on June 05, 2020, 11:11:24 AM
As a patiently waiting future owner OK, maybe not so patiently, I'm looking for everyone's essential carry on your bike trips.

Tubes, tools, anything you can think of, and what brand if you've been satisfied.

Thanks,
Ty

This is a great question. I think I will add it to my list of videos to do. I need to get better at this but here is my shortlist (some of these are already on my recommended accessories list):

Phone (To call someone if you need to be picked up  :))
M19 Multi-tool from Crankbrothers: https://amzn.to/2zeXrpz (https://amzn.to/2zeXrpz)
Tubes
Tire lever (mostly in case of front wheel goes flat as opposed to rear): https://amzn.to/2BLFy2w (https://amzn.to/2BLFy2w)
Portable pump (should have one soon): https://amzn.to/2YbnMxf (https://amzn.to/2YbnMxf)
Bungee cords
Tarp (works great to cover the bike in case you get stuck in the rain)
Bike lock: https://amzn.to/3dKWYdM (https://amzn.to/3dKWYdM)
Backpack or cinch bag to bring battery inside
Park Tool Patch kit: https://amzn.to/2YdBq2P (https://amzn.to/2YdBq2P)

If I was going further I'd definitely look to bring a compact socket set or just the sockets needed to remove the rear tire. Perhaps also something to put under handlebars if you need to flip bike upside down to replace rear tube.

A good question indeed. I used the RPB's Youtube video as a base for choosing what tools to carry with me: https://youtu.be/HSzHVtVdPy8

Also carrying a bottle of a tyre sealant:  https://youtu.be/GW0vXnaefhs

Not sure if that sealant will work for fatbike tyres. Maybe better to carry spare tubes and a pump.. :)

OK, so I've watched some videos and read the responses here. So far this is my list:
Tire lever from Crankbrothers (speedier lever)

The M19 multitool from crankbrothers as Ryan recommended

A leatherman type multi tool which I already have.

Tube patch kit.

A good tire pump? The issue I wonder about is the style between a smaller hand pump or a "floor" pump. The concern being that with fat tires they require a lot of air to fill. I also want one with a pressure gage instead of carrying two devices.  I was looking at the Pro Bike Tool pump with gauge. The issue here is that the pump doesn't start until 20 lbs which could be an issue if we want to let out air for beach riding and trying to figure out the low pressure for that.

Tubes? No idea what to get. We purchased the rad rover step-thru. I think I want two since we have two bikes. The last thing I want is to be out with the wife and need more than one. While the odds are probably astronomical, you can imagine the wife's reaction when she has to push her bike back! 😂

Ryan, put links on your gear list so I can use them to support the site.
