Title: Signs A Battery Is Dying
Post by: jcvdd on May 11, 2022, 08:23:54 AM
On my Rad 6-Plus battery, I have noticed that the driving distance has decreased dramatically. I weigh 155 pounds, always ride on flat asphalt roadway and only ride on level assist 2 or 3 and rarely use the throttle. During the first 100 miles, I was averaging 35 miles on a fully charged battery. During the last month after riding 900 miles, I have averaged only 14 miles per full charge. Any suggestions ? Is the battery dying ? Did I do something wrong ? Battery defective ?  Thanks Joe Florida

not normal. I would say the battery is defective. Contact Rad.

Agree, this sounds like a faulty battery.

My thought is that you have a defective battery.  I get 11 miles on the first bar.  The first 2 bars get me 20 miles if I am gentle.

Storage conditions, use conditions, and age?

Did you leave your batteries in a hot car or the below freezing garage?  Or did you run the bike batteries to the ground (to zero percent) often?  Do you use a super high current controller or the standard controller?  How long have you had the battery?

I thank everyone for their replies and I have contacted RAD as I also felt this battery is defective as it's not holding a charge.
Their customer service was excellent. They had me take pictures and a video of the battery showing that it lights-up???
Not sure why, but waiting for a "battery specialist" to get back to me.
Thanks for your help

Not good to hear. I'm concerned Rad may have issues with quality control. Purchased (2) Rovers 4/28/22. One bike's battery depleted on first ride of 15miles. Would not recharge. Rad service was great as you explained. They sent out new batter 5/1. Just received 5/13 ( FedEx is messed up) . Just got back from Banks/Vernonia round trip . New battery performed as it should and we had a blast. 42 miles round trip. As a result of bad battery I've spent a considerable amount of time looking into battery optimization , etc. Why I ended up on this site . Hopefully our experiences are an anomaly .

Thanks and may I ask, how did RAD verify in your situation that your battery was in fact defective? A RAD representative asked that I send her several pictures and a video of the battery which I don't understand how that would verify that the battery in fact is defective. Thanks

Hello , we did a real-time video link  . I had two chargers and two batteries so was able to illustrate and deduce issue as battery specific. . I'll have to reiterate that Brea at Rad was super patient as I had to dig into my phones settings to make link work . Also , after doing a deep dive on this site I saw Mike B 's info on battery fuse replacement. I performed this last night , and it worked . " Bad"  Battery charged fully. So now I have an extra battery ! Happy it didn't end up in the landfill . Hard to believe there's replaceable fuse that isn't easily accessible on these things.

A positive follow-up from RAD.
Kudos to RAD customer service. After RAD customer service determined that my RAD battery was defective, RAD customer service immediately replaced the battery for free without hesitation. Yet another positive review for RAD. Thanks RAD !
