Quote from: Jetty Island Jim on June 23, 2023, 09:08:38 AMSo for now, my bikes are not going up for sale, and I'm willing to continue with the brand to see if they are truly digging themselves out of a resource shortage. It happened to most companies. How they recover will show us who they are as a company.

Thanks for taking the time to write up your experience in detail; it's overall encouraging news if they are indeed following through on trying to get back on track.

May I suggest you copy/paste this post into the General Chat category as well, for visibility to others who would benefit?

Quote from: handlebar on June 21, 2023, 05:06:09 AMTo stay with the motif, I wonder if I can find a wooden Clarabell horn to mount on it. Maybe I can position the horn to shield the display from glare.

Yes, I think you can find those; one was included with this bike I was given as a gift.  The entire thing is only a foot long, though, so the horn isn't very loud.  The good part is that it doesn't leave oil stains underneath, just the occasional tiny pile of sawdust.

Nice accessory bar; that fancy-dancey carbon-fiber stuff just too snooty for ya?

Quote from: handlebar on June 20, 2023, 04:01:27 PMWhen I had a roof installed, one of the crew went over the ground with a device like this. It was so fast that I was sure I could find lots of nails he'd missed if I took my time with my magnet. I found only one. I guess I'm in the market for a wheeled sweeper like this.

When the exterior construction was essentially finished on a house I built 25 years ago, I used a wheeled magnetic sweeper to pick up all the nails and other junk left from the burn piles we used to dispose of the bits and pieces we couldn't find any reuse for.  We'd burn off a pile when it got too big and you can imagine the many hundreds of nails, pieces of joist hangers etc. left in the ashes - we treated it like a minefield no-mans-land to avoid losing body parts to hidden sharps.  When it came time to start leveling out and seeding the lawn, that sweeper cleaned it up nicely.

Not something used often, so I rented it, but very fit for purpose.

It's M3. I don't know if the pitch is 0.5 or 0.35. The threaded section is 4.24mm long. The shoulder diameter is 4.0mm and it's 8mm long.

This looks close if the pitch is right.

You're a good, and devious, man Handlebar - thanks for piling in to save me some work.  I wonder when the OP will wander back over to benefit from it?
Remember Maynard G. Krebs?   "Work ?????"  I think he and Clarabelle used to fill their flasks, light up and look for a game of craps after work.

If you can match the size, any aftermarket quality tube should work, and mirrors the same - both clamp-on and bar-end mirrors from anywhere will work fine as long as you check the bar diameter of your bike to get the right size.  I have Mirrycle mirrors on my MiniST2 as shown below; I'm very happy with these.  https://amzn.to/3PqnXkt

It looks like several different brands should fit. This one https://amzn.to/3NpHizI
claims to fit the Rad Rover. I was expecting something 6 inches long not 32. I wonder what?s worse, splicing in a cable the perfect length or plug n play that?s way too long.

Any chance the 32 is long enough to do the job and could just completely replace the original?  Not familiar with that bike model's wiring.

I should have measured, but my caliper is on the blink. A couple of weeks ago the OFF button quit working. Now the ZERO and UNITS buttons are intermittent. I'll take it apart and see of contact cleaner fixes it.

When I saw that screw with the long shoulder and tiny threads, I figured I'd just get a new bell if I were the OP. With the spring in place, it was hard to get the lever lined up for the screw. I'll try to fix my caliper and take the screw back out. If I don't get it back in, who cares? I want a horn!

(Did Clarabelle on Howdy Doody turn out to be Captain Kangaroo, master of disguise?)

Are you saying if I pull that little screw that the spring tension in the assembly makes it very difficult to reinstall?  Makes me a tad reluctant to mess with it, if so.

Here's one of many metric-thread charts to determine size, if you still have that little shoulder screw out and can get your calipers going:  https://www.maritimeherald.com/screw-sizes/

And yes, Clarabelle was the drag version of The Captain.  Like Superman and Clark Kent, there are no photos of them together, thus proving my case.   I watched the latter, Mr. Moose and Mr. Green Jeans religiously every morning well into my 40's.  Sheriff John, too; who once sent me TV greetings on my birthday - yay!

Quote from: cssshb on June 19, 2023, 03:39:49 PMIt worked. I got them to do chargebacks on both bikes. I've been told by the CC company that Rad will likely reach out to me very quickly now. We shall see...

Hey, that's great news!  Glad it worked out; I assume you have a support case number to refer to from the CC company.  Chargebacks can be the death of businesses and they try very hard to never get them - they are black marks on the CC's client record and too many can get a company banned from accepting that card brand.  I owned a restaurant, which classification almost never gets chargebacks (problems usually get solved in real time right there on the floor) but clothing and other merchandise places can get them for all sorts of reasons, including irrational customers and outright scam attempts.

Anyway, I agree with the CSR that Rad should react as quickly as if poked with a red-hot poker - two bike chargebacks of that magnitude should wake the dead.  It's not a done deal until the money is back in your account, but hopefully you're on track for satisfaction one way or the other.

These are photos of my Radrunner 1. They seem the same as Jim's.

The nut holds the bolt that's the pivot for the brake lever. The casting keeps the bolt head from turning. The head of the bolt is tapped for the bell pivot screw.

In your last photo, is the smaller bolt on the left, with the long shoulder (pivot for the bell handle?) the one shown in my first photo that is probably the one that went missing?  If so, that might not be an easy replacement to find locally, but I'm not sure having never had to go to my hardware store for a shoulder screw like that.

It looks similar to these on Amazon ( https://amzn.to/3pgsxXY ), but the shoulder in your photo seems much longer.  If the OP replies with the same bell assembly, I'll see if I can get a measurement on the thread pitch.

Edit: I think this looks closer to yours: https://amzn.to/3NKQobE

Quote from: cssshb on June 19, 2023, 01:23:17 PMMy CC company says they cannot do a chargeback on the one that was functioning for 5 days. 1 out of 2 ain't that bad, I guess. I'll take what I can get at this point.

That may end up being the case, but it doesn't sit right with me, since if the manufacturer won't communicate about a quickly-failed product, the CC company is the only real leverage you have left and they can unilaterally take your money back from Rad's CC accounts I think.  When I signed my company up to take the various cards, the contract always had words like that in it.  But others have suggested making a stink on Rad's Facebook and other social forums to get attention; apparently that seems to have worked for others.

I would also call the CC company back and ask again.  If you get the same answer, try using the magic CSR phrase "Please escalate me to your customer-service management."  Everybody answering the phone at larger companies is somewhat limited, but always under the watchful eye of supervisors with more authority.  It could be that front-line people don't have the authority to override a policy like that and they're trying to avoid such situations.

One other card you might consider playing is the safety-card - that might wake up the CC company's liability lawyers - or Rad's lawyers if you ever get through to a human there.  Something like "Look, the bike is dead and I don't know why but it looks like an electrical problem and I'm getting concerned it might trigger a lithium-battery fire depending on the problem that Rad won't talk to me about."  You certainly don't want to be exposed to an immediately-defective product that might start a fire, especially after you've made every effort to get it fixed up by the OEM.  If the CC company then is able to get your money back from Rad, you'd have some resources to have the bike and/or battery safely disposed of.

Just cogitating here about what I might do in your situation and hoping you can get it worked out to your satisfaction.

Quote from: fromthelake on June 18, 2023, 06:14:05 PMI?ve heard that the Radrunner at 3+ cannot currently physically fit the 35 amp controllers that are used to upgrade the Radrunner and Radrunner two. Is this accurate? To me one of the nice things about the Radrunner and rad power bikes in general is that they seem fairly easy to upgrade components so it would be a shame at this wouldn?t be the case for a Radrunner 3+.

That used to be true until the current new generation, as you're finding out.  However, Electro Bike World now offers a 35A controller/display upgrade (using the same controller as for the older bikes, I think, but with new cabling) for the new Rover 6+ series.  I wouldn't be surprised if Area13 also has it by now.  I think it mounts externally, leaving the original controller in place, but they say it works.

https://electrobikeworld.com/products/rad-power-6-upgrade-kit

This means a similar upgrade should eventually become available for your Runner 3 if there's enough demand, so you might want to contact them to express interest.

The Rad Rover 6+ has hydraulic brakes and the I think the lines would be easy to replace. It is the electrical cables that are the problem for me. The wires go down the handlebar to the controller. I assume the connectors are not going to be found on a generic cable. I don?t know if it is possible to splice in a section of wire to add length.

Here's another Amazon link for various types of extension cables; maybe there's something here that will do the job for you.

https://amzn.to/3NkVN7M

They had all cables for my 2021 MiniST2 except the one I really needed when I installed the 35A controller upgrade - the 10-pin display cable, shown below.  I couldn't find one of those available anyplace a year ago, but haven't searched again since.  The stock cable is just barely long enough; I was trying to add a little extra slack.

Below are two pics of the bell on my 2021 MiniST2 (one of two bells and an electric horn so the loud can match the circumstances), which also has a locknut on the bottom to keep it from working loose.  Before I go too far down this rabbit hole, disassembling mine, can you tell if yours uses the same bell?  I'm not sure I have a metric thread gauge, but if it's the same as yours it's worth finding out.

I have this one when I charge my battery.

https://amzn.to/46kiJwC

Thanks for that link!  I just ordered one for my MiniST2 battery when it's (rarely) off the bike, and another different size to hold my two electric-weedeater Ego batteries.  With the 15% discount offered at the moment, the price is pretty good, but here's a tip in return for anybody thinking of these - create separate orders for different bags to get full discount; it was calculated at a lesser rate when combined into one order.

EDIT: received them next day from Amazon and they are very good quality for the price - quite well-made, and if the video on the Amazon listing page is truthful, setting fire to them seems to be harmless.  Haven't tried taking the battery off my MiniST2 but I'm sure it'll fit - the one for my two Ego batteries fits like it was made for them.  Thanks again for the tip.
