Title: Rad Runner - green paint (RAL)?
Post by: RadOST on April 27, 2024, 02:24:39 AM
Howdy,

New member here.  :D
I've had the Radrunner for over 2 years now. Overall I'm pretty happy.
However I have a paint issue. I already have some scratches (my fault) and a "bad paint" on the steel fork (please, see picture), that I would like to tackle.

My questions are: does anybody know the green color number by RAL standard?
Does Rad Power Bikes have a paint spray for sale with that paint, may be?
Is it a matte or a satin paint?

Any ideas about the paint job and repair would be highly appreciated. Thanks.  :)

Your picture looked a little faded, even if you get the right code. Are you sure it will match?

What if you just use black paint the bottom of the fork both left and right (from the top of the rust to the bottom rust)

If it is the right RAL number, I'm sure it will match.

It's not just the fork, I have scratches in other places too.  :'(
Interestingly, it's not because I have fallen off the bike. They are from storage handling.  :-X

Here is my beauty. I use it 50/50 road/offroad and it works just fine.
Everything is stock, except the saddle which I replaced right away.

Good paint stores have scanners that can analyze a paint sample and barf up a recipe to make a matching batch, so you might take your bike in, or a sacrificial paint sample, for scanning and matching.

With this method, your touch-up paint would be pre-faded to match if they do it right.

I think the easier way would be to write to Rad bikes and ask for the paint specifications.
I thought someone has had that problem resolved before me (aka repair painted a Radrunner) and could give the paint number but...
Well, never mind, thank for the help everybody.  :)

Pity they don't do it like they did in the '50s and '60s for electric guitar paints. They just used off-the-shelf automotive paints. Haven't you always wanted a classic car with a matching Fender Stratocaster?

Then again, maybe that's exactly what Rad did.

I love my Radrunner green paint. Can't imagine it in another color.
I think Rad power bikes did a great job with colors.
After all this is a frugal bike, not a 'dude's' bike or a fixie.  ;D

True, but even getting the factory paint spec won't get you a match to your aged/faded Runner color.  Please let us know how it works out for you.

I'd at least get some primer or a close-enough match on the rusty parts just to slow down the rusting, while you're looking for a proper colour match.
