I wanted to get them off the floor since they take up so much room.

I went to Harbor Freight and bought an ATV winch with remote control for $60, 2 of their bike pulleys at $10 each, some airplane steel cable, then on to tractor supply for a few pulleys add in some stuff I already had and the rest is history as they say.

I bought the $10 bike pulleys simply for the hooks they have that work perfect for the handle bars and seat.

I have to say that it is very satisfying to hit a button on the remote and watch them raise up to the ceiling or lower to the floor.  :P

Tried to add a video but looks like it always fails even though it is less than 5mb.

I thought I'd share how I store our Rad Rover Step-thrus in my garage for the winter.

General Chat / Re: Hitch Racks
August 20, 2020, 07:18:30 AM
I have two ST bikes also and was lucky enough to have ordered the Hollywood rack about 3 weeks ago from their site. I was looking at trays and cheaper alternatives and while this rack is costly it's cheaper than a lot of the others that you could try but are really over their recommended weight restrictions.

The biggest reason I went with this was I needed something my wife could load and unload by herself. The tilt down feature and the fact that you can put a single bike on the outside of the rack makes this a lot easier.

I could have picked a rack and then modified it for the bikes (overall wheel span is an issue unless you don't mind your tires resting on the thin edge of the rack wall) but the thought of having her try to figure out strapping it down correctly quickly made me rethink my solution.

A word of caution. This probably applies to any rack. We took our first official trip with the bikes. I had it on my full size Nissan Titan truck. My brother-in-law was following us. When we got to our destination the first thing he said is that he could not see my tail light at all. No brake lights, no turn signals. I have since bought a taillight extension bar that I will mount on the rack. Check it before you drive and if you have a hitch but not a power outlet for trailer lights I would get one.

On the way home we got separated and in heavy traffic on the highway. I had a women almost plow into me when traffic braked suddenly and it would have totally been my fault. I don't even want to think about the liability if someone would have gotten hurt.

General Chat / Re: Radmini 4 bike lock help

I would recommend the folding lock that they have on the rad site. It has one of the highest security ratings and can mount right on the bike for easy transportation.

Assuming you got insurance, which I highly recommend as these are not cheap and are a magnet for theft, the insurance company will most likely require a lock with a certain rating.

The only issue is they are out of stock everywhere. There is a better price on amazon but it's from England and won't be in stock until end of August.

I just got my bike today!! I tried my key on my wife's bike and it worked fine. Didn't look at the numbers on the keys.

I ordered 2 step-thrus in May. Got one in June and should have the other next week.

I agree that I'm glad I didn't order the regular rad. Being short and older the days of hopping up on a bike are best left behind  ;D

I also ended up ordering the Hollywood bike rack that they show on rads website although I ordered it straight from Hollywood.

Due to the weight, I needed something that my wife could load and unload herself. Plus it's one of the only ones out there that are rated for the weight of these bikes.

General Chat / Re: RadRover Wall Mount?

Depends what you want to do and how your garage is. I have an open ceiling with access to the rafters so I'm planning on using a bike lift and probably hook it up to a trailer winch so I can crank it up and down. Have a few home improvement projects to finish before I attempt but will post some pics when done.

Ryan, do you like the alarm version of that lock? I was looking at buying the regular version like on Rad's site but did see the alarm version on Amazon.

Is it bey sensitive? Hate to have a lot of false alarms if it is too sensitive.

Just to add to this. I recently saw a YouTube video from Bolton bikes that was talking about bike locks and oddly enough he also talked about how batteries are stolen and specifically pointed out that on RAD bikes (a couple models were tried) that he was able to simply use a key blank and unlock the battery but also to turn on the bike.

If you don't know what a key blank is, it is just the key before any of the grooves are cut on it.

Now granted not just any old blank would work but people who steal bikes will probably  already know which type or carry several as part of their kit.

I actually like Veggyhed's idea about replacing the quick release on the seat post and then just lower the seat and you will have a much harder time getting the battery off.

General Chat / Re: Top Tube Bag
July 20, 2020, 09:45:24 AM
We have one of the two step-thrus that we ordered. The issue I see with adding anything to the tube that is not side mounted is going to be a pain.

I was going to put a water bottle holder on the mounting screws there but I think it's just going to be a knee buster getting on and off and potentially a ⚽️  ⚽️  Buster getting off the seat for us shorties  ;)

Dang it  ;D

I ordered two on the 18th. Got the white one in June still waiting on my black one. Maybe I'll get it soon since you are getting yours.
