To return to this question, I?m going with the cheaper option because the batteries are both 48v. But I wonder will this still increase performance the way Datex2 claims to, or just battery life? Will both batteries charge at same time? I?ve always been told you should only run parallel if the batteries are same brand, capacity, age etc? Maybe this only applied to the lead acid being discussed at the time?
Thoughts appreciated 👍

You will not be able to charge both batteries at the same time, just use them at the same time.  Most batteries are charged via a separate connection anyways.  For my setup, I have two 52v 20ah batteries that I use in parallel with a dumb cable, and I carry two chargers, one for each battery.  The reason why charging should be separate is because as one battery completes its charge, it will take less current in and the remainder will be dumped to the less charged one, and if you are using a high current charger (a fair assumption given you are trying to charge two batteries in parallel), the high current to one battery will be detrimental.
Reporting back:  The works well on the Rad Runner 3+, and now I can use either the stock 48v battery or my 52v battery.

Since both of your batteries are the same voltage (48v), you don't need the Datex2.  The amazon option is fine, and actually you could just get away with connecting the batteries directly in parallel (which is what I do using this -

I haven't had any issues running a 52V battery on a stock Rad Wagon, Runner 2, or City 4. But haven't tried with the integrated controller.

My assumption that the controller is at fault for not passing power to the motor at 52v is a hunch tbh.  I ordered the ElectroBikeWorld kit after speaking with them about RadRunner 3+ compatibility.  However it turns out, I'll report back here.

Have you solved the issue of where to put said battery?

Yes, I have two (parallel connected) and am planning to run them from a bike trailer - I'm trying to make a good long distance touring configuration.

Re: the motor, I may replace this at some point.  For now, running the 52v batteries is for range primarily, and the fact that they are 52v means the stock Rad Power controller will not pass power on to the motor.

I am pretty sure your stock controller is only 25 watts and has a max of 52 volts.  The battery you added is probably max of 56 volts and the controller can't handle that much.  So yes you need a 35 watt controller as it will handle the new battery but I am told it will not a 60 volt battery.

Thanks.  Now to find a 35A controller/dsiplay upgrade kit for a RadRunner 3+...
I apparently made the mistake of buying the notoriously difficult to modify RadRunner 3+ and I'd like to change the controller+display to accomodate a 52v battery.  I see that ElectroBikeWorld has this: but of course that is for the RadPower 6+.  Anybody know of a good option for controller/display updgrade to accomodate a 52v battery for the RadRunner 3+?

Hey all,

I've adapated a 52v battery to my RadRunner 3+ (everything else stock - display, controller etc).  Display turns on but I get no ppower to the motor from throttle or peddling.  Do I need to change the stock controller?
