Rad Modifications / Re: RadMini motor conversion

How is the performance of the 1000 watt? I'd be going from 500 to 1000 if I upgrade.

Is the 1000 watt motor quitter? I'd really like a quiet ebike, but don't know if that's possible.

Have a radmini4 and just looking at upgrades. I'd like to start with the popular 35 amp controller from boltonBikes. In the future if I'd like to upgrade to the 1000 watt motor, is the 35 amp controller compatible?

Here is the controller:

How is the bike balance affected with having a batter above the back tire?

How heavy is the battery?

RadMini / Second battery on rear rack
May 14, 2022, 05:54:12 AM
Hi thinking of upgrading to a 52 volt battery and 35 amp controller.

Anyone mount a second rectangle battery to the back rack? Is the balance of the bike changed allot?

Also where do you get quality batteries? I'm in Canada, but looking at the following:

Pay very close attention to this when installing new pedals since the pedal axle is steel and the crank arms are aluminum. Put light grease on the threads and use finger pressure to start them threading, snug down with a wrench.
What sort of grease do you use? I have a can of the following, would that work?

I own a few pedals and I have been switching out.  I prefer the big off-road pedal for plain shoes.  For me efficiency is not a concern on an ebike - I don't use clips.
Do you have dimensions for what a large pedal is. I like these on amazon, as I fold my bike often, and it would help it fit into the tote bin I use.

Reggy,

9/16 only. Any more or less won't match the thread pitch.
Thanks Radio Runner.

My current radmini-4 foldable pedals are starting to get wobbly. Is putting your standing weight on the pedal as you dismount the bike while its moving, too much for the pedals? I'm about 160 lbs.

What did you end up doing getting? I like the centre mount kick stands, does that work with the mini-4?

Will 14mm also fit 9/16?

9/16 is 14.3mm.

Looking to buy new pedals also.

So I ended up getting a 25watt controller and installed last week. As I expected, my battery life decreased some. Curious if anyone here has done this and have also upgraded the battery. I am not sure if I want to stay with the 48v or increase to 52v but what I am sure of is that I would like to hone in on a 17aH battery for the longevity of rides. On the fence whether I would replace the existing battery or get an add-on too for like the bike rack. My research so far is making me look for one with a XT90 connector as I can find a Rad to XT90 conversion cable to basically make it plug and play - anyone have thoughts on doing this or advice as to what to get.

Hi cmalberto, what did you end up getting? I have the same radmini4 bike and need a second battery, with  the XT90 connector. Would get this:

I changed the front chaining to 56T without having to change the chain length on my RAD MINI.  Works great and can now keep up with the motor at speeds over 20 mph.

Also want to do this upgrade. Do you need a new chain?

Or would you add links to the original chain instead, if so how many links do you need to add?

General Chat / Radmini 4 - battery travel case
March 24, 2022, 06:35:42 AM
Hi Rad owners,

I'm looking for a travel case for the battery pack and charger to fit into. The one radpower sells is over sized for the batter. Do any of you guys have an alternative you use?

Cheers,

Can one use, trailer tires which are also 20" and just a little bit narrower than the 3.3". What is the range of tire size the rad-mini can fit?

RadMini / Security skewer and seat post security
November 27, 2021, 11:16:43 AM
Hi,

What are you folks using for security for the quick release. The front quick release skewer measures approx. 18 cm, there a security skewer available for that size? What are you guys using to secure the seat?

Regards,
Reggy
