I just did a ride from Key Largo to Key West and back. I watched video of others who had done this ride just one way and most of them ended up multiple flats (on regular bikes). I didn't want to have to change/repair a flat, so I went kind of extreme. I installed Tannus Armour in both tires and also put Slime in them. I also carried two spare tubes and a bottle of Slime. Happy to say, I had no flats. The thing that I really like about the Tannus Armour is that they say you can actually ride for a short distance on a flat with them. I haven't had to test that myself yet.

You can't ride flat on all tire sizes.

This is from Tannus web site.

One of the great features of the Tannus Armour is that if you get a flat during the ride you can ride a few miles without hurting your rim.* However, if you do get a flat please avoid rougher terrain.

*Does not apply to the follow sizes: 20x3.0-4.0, 20x4.1-4.8, and 26x4.0-4.8.

General Chat / Tannus Armour Flattened
May 21, 2022, 03:37:02 PM
About a year and a half ago I installed the Tannus inserts. Last Friday I got my first flat on my rear tire. When I pulled the tire to repair the tube I noticed the inserts were flat as a pancake. I removed the insert and tube and put the original tube back in. I contacted Tannus and they said that you have to deflate your tires once a month so the inserts return to their normal shape. I did alot of reading up on them and do not recall that you have to deflate every month. I went to Tannus web site and looked every where and could not find any mention of needing to deflate once a month. I told Tannus I should not have to do that with inserts costing over $100. They replied back saying since I won't delate every month they will not send me another insert. Sounds a bit shady to me. Buyer Beware.

I wanted to buy local but the bike shops here didn't have much and were more expensive than RAD. I have had my Rover 5 since September of 2020. Up until a couple weeks ago I have had no issues. I am now getting Error 25. My experience with RAD support has been hit and miss. I've had both good and bad service from RAD. Bike shops here will work on the mechanical parts of my RAD but will not touch the electrical part.

Emailed RAD about 9 days ago but never received a response. Pretty poor service. I guess I will have to continue riding without a tail/brake light.

RadRover / Error 25
April 22, 2022, 05:17:58 PM
Well, I got Error 25 today. I unplugged the tail light and the error went away. How do I know if it's the tail light or the controller? I looked on Rad's site but did not see the controller or tail light. Hopefully they still sell the parts otherwise I will just keep the tail light unplugged.

General Chat / Re: New price for Rad Expand 1499.99
April 09, 2022, 06:34:16 PM
I was thinking of selling my Rover 5 and getting a Mini but all I see now is the Expand 5 which I don't think is worth $1,499. I have a 2020 Camry and don't have a way to transport my Rover 5 so I thought getting a folding bike would work if it will fit in my Camry. I guess I will need to look around at the different brands to see what's out there other than RAD.

I keep my Rover5 in 7th gear all the time. If I am going to work I use PAS 5. If I'm out for a casual cruse I'll use PAS 3. There are no hills here where I live so I don't really need to shift.

OK, so let me start by saying I love my Radrunner Plus and love to ride. The whole e-bike industry has been a great thing for many riders. But I am trying to understand why so many owners are ready to mod their bikes as soon as they get them to make them go faster. I know, speed is fun, biking is fun. But if you want something that goes really, really fast - buy something designed for that speed, and drive it in a safe and legal way. Every time I turn around I see cities and towns banning e-bikes on bike paths and trails because riders are not respecting speed limits and are causing safety concerns. As an e-bike community, let's make sure our choices and behaviors support the industry and encourage local communities to embrace and encourage e-bike ridership rather than find new reasons to ban us!

I'm sure this post may kick up some strong opinions. I'm all ears and welcome respectful and constructive exchange.

I agree with you. Some people love to tinker and mod things. I have no problem people doing that but some don't follow the rules and laws. It's these few that will mess it up for the rest of us. I have a Rdadrover 5 and I personally have no desire to go faster than stock. If I need to go faster I might as well get a motorcycle.

General Chat / Re: Extending Battery Life
February 20, 2022, 10:04:30 AM
There have been some threads that get in detail about charging. I'll give my understanding. Batteries will recharge so many times. If you charge your battery to 80 percent and discharge to about 20 percent you will extend the life of your battery. As for balancing you want all the cells in the battery pack to be the same voltage. I do believe after the pack is fully charged and you leave the pack charging it will automatically balance the cells in the battery pack. I forget how long it takes for this to happen. I don't get a chance to ride as often as i like so every couple months I will fully charge my battery and leave it on charge over night so it will do a balance charge.

The Sena helmet (or Sena Pi) is my go-to helmet. When riding with my wife it's awesome to talk to each other and when I'm out by myself I turn on music. If you want to make your own helmet smart the Sena Pi's are a good option though still a bit pricey at $99 each: https://ebikeescape.com/sena-pi-review/

The Pi would be a good option if you have a MIPS helmet. I looked at both but I can't make my mind up. I like the light on the R2 Evo but I do have a MIPS helmet.

and if you're truly paranoid about your bike getting stolen, that's what insurance is for. I drop 2K on something, I'm going to insure it!

but that's a different thread.

If you don't have something nice to say then don't say anything.
