Pride & Joy / Re: Winter and summer fun since 2020!

So far I have been enjoying riding my new 6+ through the countryside to work everyday in the sunshine but having yet to experience winter riding I am a bit apprehensive about snow and ice. Nice to see it handles the snow well but I am particularly anxious about black ice.

I have a Rhino 6+ and have discovered that by pedalling and constantly applying full throttle it remains engaged and I can very quickly get up to 30KPH.

Well imagine using it with only a 250W motor like us stuck with the EU version.

RadRover / Regenerative Braking
July 14, 2022, 08:21:46 AM
Does the Rover/Rhino 6 have regen braking? I find trying to use my bike without any pedal assist very difficult, even in low gears and it feels like trying to pedel in treacle.

RadRover / PAS display battery accuracy
June 10, 2022, 07:46:30 AM
My Rover/Rhino 6+ PAS display featuring the battery indicator has a very questionable level of accuracy. I jumped on my bike today displaying 4 bars but after about 1 mile I was down to 1 bar! This was half uphill, half downhill using a mixture of all 6 PAS settings (including 0). I suspect the actual battery was sitting at 1 bar when I started which would mean the PAS indicator is WAY off the mark.

General Chat / Re: Hello new here
June 09, 2022, 12:05:36 PM
Hello, I am almost 200 miles in on my first E-bike, the Rover/Rhino 6 plus. I purchased it for exactly what you describe. I commute to work daily through busy city streets and cross country trails. I have also used it for some low level off roading. I have found it to be a great all rounder but my one caution would be I have found it to be too heavy to go fully off road, any short, steep, grassy or stoney inclines you will struggle to get up without a long run up first. As I am forced to use the 250w motor maybe US riders with the 750w motor may have a different experience but the EU version is not suitable for proper off road mountain biking in my opinion, which is a real shame.

When I was looking to purchase my EU Rad I struggled to find a referral code anywhere so here is one for any European purchasers out there. http://rwrd.io/2hkiosh?c

I have to applaud the Rad design that allows for perfect weight distribution with the bike balancing on the tiny flat bar under the seat.

You got me inspired.  I have a Rad Mini ST2.  I can wedge my front wheel against two shelves in the garage, or on my fence.  Then I can lift up the rear of the bike with a paint can, resting the loop under the frame on the paint can.  The pedals are so far apart I can pedal the bike, with the rear wheel off the ground and the frame totally supported by the paint can.  With this arrangement, I can totally adjust the back wheel, test the motor and everything.

And if I want to work on the front, I wedge the rear wheel between the shelves, lift up the front with the paint can at the same place.  That's because the loop under the bike is pretty close to the center of gravity.

Everything can be done with something supporting the loop.  Like a paint can or a cinder block, or some old books to make a center stand.  That's it.

A bike stand is not really needed.  For some big jobs, like working on the bottom bracket, a bike stand would be preferable but not necessary.

Another way is for me to put a strap connecting the handlebar stem and the saddle post and then hang the bike up with a rope attached to the strap somewhere between the saddle post and handlebar.

There are plenty of good options if I give it some thought. I don't have to buy anything if I don't want to. Of course, I already have the bike stand but I don't really need it.

All those hours watching The A-Team weren?t a waste of my time after all.  ;D

Bike stand for adjusting my brakes.  ;D

That is cool.  The superior bike mechanic fixes a bike without buying more junk from our consumer culture.

I was just thinking about doing this except I was planning to use my 2 premade sawhorses and two 8-foot 2x4.  That is not as good as what you have done.

I have to applaud the Rad design that allows for perfect weight distribution with the bike balancing on the tiny flat bar under the seat.

RadRover / Rover/Rhino 6 plus breaks rubbing.
May 22, 2022, 09:16:02 AM
Now 100 miles in with my new Rhino 6 plus but issue with rubbing front brake was not resolved by bedding in. Yesterday?s off road ride felt like trying to cycle in drying cement, even in the lowest gear. Today I skipped to 2:56 on this instructional video and it worked like a charm. Brakes now free and clear after a 30 second adjustment.  :)

RadRover / Re: Rover 6 plus Controller

The problem with putting a US controller in an EU or CA rover 6+ is that your motor is not 750w. it is a 250W EU, and 500W CA. so you would need to replace both the motor and the controller to get the effect you are looking for.

These parts are even listed as different part numbers in the rad dataBase so they cannot be confused with each other.

Sorry about the layoff but thanks for the inside knowledge. I had previously been led down the wrong rabbit hole concerning the 750W motor. There was a discussion I stumbled on that all bikes in all countries have the same motor and were limited purely by the software. I guess I?m stuck with max. 250W.
