General Chat / CST Big Boat- 2000 mile review
September 09, 2023, 09:37:49 AM
I commute to work 20 miles one way and 20Mi back so after two summers and one winter on the tire 2000Mi is conservative. I?m sure it?s much higher since I ride around on my days off as well. Anyway, 2000Mi is impressive for this tire. I run full 30psi for maximum efficiency and use FlatOut goop which saved my bacon several times with HUGE nails and a roofing staple. I can?t recommend Flat Out enough.

So as you can see I finally had to replace the tire since it?s getting quite bald. I?m sure it has a few 100 miles left in it but I?m not going to press my luck with easy punctures with such wear and tear.

Great tires for pavement urban use.

General Chat / Rad Mission battery on a Runner or others?
November 25, 2022, 12:37:54 AM
Anyone know if the smaller Rad Mission battery has the same voltage and fits the same cradle as the RRunner and others that use the larger one in the same shape.

They are on sale right now and if they fit I?d like one for a spare.

Brand new in box 40$ free shipping. Fits older style or semi integrated battery.

PM or email me for payment info.

If your reading this it?s still available. Will delete when sold.

In the parts list for the RR2 if your paying attention you will notice that the rims are no longer listed as Double Wall. This is one of the sneaky ways to cut cost that most customers never see since the tire hides it.

Single wall rims are weaker and cheaper. The RRplus is still listed with double wall but keep and eye out for more cost cuts like this in all models.

General Chat / New price for Rad Expand 1499.99
March 26, 2022, 08:53:37 AM
 :-\ huh?

Was the idea to get all the early reviews praising a new lower price point of 1299 then jack up the price days later? I never saw mention of an introductory price.

Now 1499.00 with a parts down grade, cheaper rims etc.

Service & Repair / Stubby 18mm wrench

Picked up this Husky 18mm stubby for my custom tool kit. I like it better than the wrench that comes with the factory kit.

General Chat / Rim design on Expand5?
March 12, 2022, 11:57:14 PM
On close ups of the 20" rim cross section where the nipples meet the spokes it looks like there is a new "shelfed" design not smooth and convex from sidewall to sidewall like the MiniST, RR and RRPlus. Anyone have a better picture than Rads website offers?

I have three. Two are lightly used , less than 50 miles. The other is brand new un-used.

Shipping will probably be 30 bucks based on size and weight. I also have the fat inner-tubes. Email is open or discuss here.

I'm in Oregon.

RadRunner / Replaced Kenda 3.3’s with CST 20x3.0
March 10, 2022, 05:28:09 PM
Today I put on some CST Big Boat tires to replace the Kenda K-Rads.

I ride mostly on pavement and the Kendal's are a total drag and really loud. The size difference isn't that significant but the street pattern and slightly narrowed profile makes it a total winner on the road. I went on a 3 mile gravel loop today as well and the difference is minimal.

I only think the Kendas are worth it if your trips are always on dirt or sand. Otherwise I'd say they are mostly for looks and to alert pedestrians of your approach from 20 yards away.

The acceleration is also faster. The CST's are noticeably lighter.

I took off the stock 16 tooth freewheel and replaced it with a 17t for a lower gear ratio and to my horror the threads were completely dry. Ouch!

For those that don't know this is a high torque area and if no grease is used after time, dirt and rain etc when you go to remove the gear it can take the threads off right with it!

Scary. So anyway if you got the tools and the time you should pull the freewheel (7spd or 1spd) and check.

By the way there was no grease on the bolted axle or the torque washer retainer screw.

RadRunner / RR1 replacement chain idler
March 10, 2022, 02:10:59 PM
Here is a side by side of the old flawed chain idler (left) and the new one on the right.

The old one didn't wrap the chain enough and led to chain skip. The new one addressed this flaw.

I did have to surf through customer service email to get it for awhile. Seems their 1st response is to tell me to adjust the deraileur. Welp, there is no deraileur of course and this flawed idler is a known problem. 3 email replies later and someone actually read my request and granted it.
