RadMini / Rad-mini 4 from gears to single speed?

Hi,

My derailleur cable is rusted and needs replacing. I also find myself mostly using the highest gear and using the battery and pedaling to get myself up to speed. Is there a way to remove the derailleur and use the bike in a single speed with the cassette in place? Or there conversion kits out there, anyone done it?

RadMini / Wobbly Folding Bike Stem on Radmini 4

Hi Folks,

Have a Radmini 4, and I'm on my second folding bike stem, but the same issue occures over time. The joint where the stem folds becomes loose over time, there is play in it. I can shim the joint to reduce the play in the joint, but this does not seem right. Causes play in the handle bar steering, and does not inspire confidence.

Anyone have this issue? Or can recommend a stronger / better folding stem for the radmini 4?

RadMini / Radmini4 rotor size and thickess, hydraulic brakes

Looking to start upgrading my brakes. Still have cable brakes, was thinking to start with the rotor upgrade first. Then go full hydraulic if rotors are not enough.

1. What is the biggest rotors the radmini4 can handle, i.e. diamater and thickness.

2. What are option for full hydraulic brakes?

Can the eggRider and the 35 amp controller be combined? I'd like to keep the 35 amp controller wattage legal with the push of a button on the eggRider. I'm in Canada, we're only suppose to have 500 watts of power.

Hi, I have a radmini4 came with a 48 volt battery. Could I run a 52 volt battery with the original controller?

What if I'd charge the 52 volt battery only to 80% which is about 55.4 volts. Which is about the voltage of a fully charged 48v battery.

Bought this cable but it does not want to fit the radpower connector. Is there an alternative 5pin extension cable for the radpower bikees?

I did some more research and found a version of the manual that was more technical. P5 is the power monitoring mode and "0" for real time voltage seems to be the safest. The settings for P5 go all the way up to 40, so I'm sure there is a smart monitoring setting that would work for 52 volts, but no one knows what it is yet. I'll stick with "0" until I know more or can experiment.

C12 is the controller minimum voltage, and one company told me to use "0", but this is incorrect. The highest setting is "7" which is 41.5 volts, so I'm just going to use that.

I'll post back if I get more data!
Is 41.5v not sufficient? How low do you take your batteries? for a 52v battery at 25% is 46.2v.
41.5v is below 0%. 42v on a 52 volt battery is 0%. Won't the BMS kick in before the controller anyway?

What's healthiest only take is down to 25 - 30%?

Just editing the title to reflect this is solved now.

In summary, the correct settings for the KT LCD3 controller display for 52 volt batteries are:
P5=25 for power monitoring smart mode.
C12=7 for the controller minimum cutoff voltage. This is the set point for when the controller cuts power to the motor, but not the display or lights. Motor operation will resume in about 15 seconds if the voltage comes back up to safe levels, and you can continue to ride more gently.
What is the cut off voltage value for c12=7?

From the manual here it says default? Or is it Default value (40)+1V. Would 41 not be too low? Read 44 is cut off for a 52 volt battery.

@reggy you can dial the power output up or down by adjusting the C5 setting.
There's no Always On function for the light, though you could in theory swap wires to get the same results if you were handy with a wirecutters and a soldering iron.
Yea currently have C5 set to 4, as I have a canadian version, 500 watt motor.

Thinking of buying a datex2 down the road, which could only take 30 amps. How would I know what the amps is being drawn with C5 set to 4?

I don't know if the Canadian motor is physically the same as the US motor, but the peak rating of Bafang motors is usually double the nominal rating, so you should be safe with the C5=04 setting. The "nominal" rating of a motor in most cases is simply the maximum power level that it can maintain at 100% duty cycle and never overheat. Putting more power into the motor will cause the heat to build up, but it does not become a problem unless the motor is held at that elevated power level for long periods.
Anyone know of a spec. sheet for radpower canadian 500 watt bafang motor of what it can handle?

For 2x the nominal power,  what is considered prolong periods of time? 5 min, 10 min or continuous throttle?

By the way, I did a deep dive on some of the more useful settings, and thought I'd document them.

The C14 setting is not mentioned most of the time, but it adjusts the pedal assist levels. The settings are 1, 2, and 3, with each level increasing the power of the PAS levels. 2 is default, but I changed mine to 1 to get the PAS closer to how I usually ride.

Setting C5 changes the maximum power sent to the motor, but the manual did not mention the special functions of settings 02, 01, and 00. Those last three deliver full power, but with a curve that builds up to full power. This curve is based on time, not speed, so if you are already going 10 mph, it still takes the same amount of time to get to full power. This is useful if you don't want to get hit suddenly with full power, like when carrying a passenger or cargo.

C5 (Controller Maximum Current Adjustment Mode, 00 - 10)

  C5=10: 1200 watts, 1170 watts observed
  C5=09: 1176 watts, 1070 watts observed
  C5=08: 1128 watts, 1010 watts observed
  C5=07: 1056 watts, 960 watts observed
  C5=06: 960 watts, 930 watts observed
  C5=05: 840 watts, 880 watts observed

Thanks for sharing very helpful. I have a canadian radmini4 with has a 500 watt motor. I've set C5=04. Any danger to motor when supplying more than 500 watts? How much power can these 500 watt motors handle consistently without burning out?

Hi got the KT-LCD8H, and I have a 500 watt canadian version of the radmini4. Which settings are critical so I don't burn our my motor?

Also don't want all the power, like to improve power but not kill the range.

I'm looking for a second 52v battery. Have an existing 48v-14aH battery on my radmini4, and looking best way to either run them in parallel or separately. Any idea why a similar battery is prices differently from each company? Do you get what you pay for with batteries? The Electro Bike battery are $170 dollars more expensive, is it worth it?

 I've emailed Electro Bike World, and they said they don't recommend using this device as it degrades the batteries quicker. Recommends using one battery at a time instead. Can anyone comment? Of have experience with either of the batteries listed?
