RadRover / Re: Km/miles with brake pads
November 06, 2022, 09:35:52 AM
I weigh 220 lbs (100kg) and live in a hilly area.  I get about 200-400 miles depending on whether it?s soft or hard/sintered pads I?m using. RR6+

RadRover / RadRover 6+ Brake Pads
October 22, 2022, 09:32:08 AM
I can confirm that it is SRAM/AVID ?elixir? style pads that fit the rr6+ nutt brakes.  Specifically the ones with the protruding tab on the lower edge as in the screenshots earlier in this thread.  There seems to be an ?elixir-DB? variant without the tabs that is allegedly 1mm wider (30mm) that might account for the ?too snug? experiences.

So far I?ve had Kool Stops (from REI), Tektro ceramic p20 I mistakenly bought and had to dremel but loved them, and I?m working my way through a 4 pair pack of sintered from discobrakes.com.  Thinking of trying a different compound from DiscoBrakes next time around but the sintered ones have outlasted all previous ones.

If that doesn't work, look in the service & repair section.

There's a thread on here showing dissembling the battery to get at the fuses.  The fuses are easily available auto types. Worth a shit before you pay another $500.

Update:  I purchased a double-pack of the Tektro ceramic p20.11 pads and they don't fit!  They're about 1-2mm too wide to fit the slot in the caliper assembly.

Photo comparisons between the originals, Kool Stops, and these Tektros to follow soon.

I must be doing a lot more extreme riding than most.  I just hit 400 miles total and will be on my 3rd set of front pads and halfway through my 2nd rears.

Edit: Here's the KoolStops overlaid on the Tektro P20.11's. Maybe the Tektro fit the RR5 but not the RR6+ ?

General Chat / RadRover 6 Plus Hills question?
December 11, 2021, 02:31:42 PM
I'm 220 lbs.  I came away from the reviews and videos thinking my RR6 might be able to throttle up fairly steep hills, although I had doubts given that the reviewers were always around 170 lbs.

I have to peddle up steep hills but it's still ridiculously easy.  I go up trails in first gear and PAS 5 and sometimes spin the back tire on the steep ones.

I recommend you test ride something if possible.

You flick/push the lever with your thumb and let go, and it rings with a thunderous...."ting!" [emoji23]

Jeff, thanks for the pic.  Do you know if the pads you got were
Organic/resin or
Metal/sintered, or
Ceramic?
Carbon?

I've been doing some research [emoji39]

RadRover / RR6 brake specs

Update:  took the bike to the refered dealer (REI) and they bled the brakes, adjusted a screw in the lever, and replaced the front pads.  They used metal/sintered pads which are noisier but supposed to last longer. To Rad's credit, they have processed the dealers invoice and issued me a credit.

Was at the Rad showroom this weekend (not brake related) and the service guy was very helpful and said he sees people wearing out their brakes very quickly in hilly areas, and that the pads are a common size so don't stress out trying to find the exact same pads again.

Service & Repair / Re: Rad Power 6 Battery Not Charging
November 28, 2021, 07:56:12 AM
Same issue with me this past week.  Was getting quotes for rad mobile and rad showroom service appointments that were 2-4 weeks out.  I spoke to the showroom service coordinator and after some imploring for help they said they had a single RR6+ battery in-stock, would hold it for me, and could fit me in as a walk-in on Black Friday.

I went in, they verified the issue and swapped the battery.  It was definitely worth the 80 mile drive!

Had a frustrating phone call with Rad support today.  Had my bike about 1 month and 141 miles and in the last week both brakes have gone spongy.  Called them up hoping to get details of the new hydraulic+ceramic brake system, things like what Nutt model they are, what brake pads to buy etc so that I can buy the correct bleed kit and spare pads etc.

The good news: Rad said they'll address it under warranty and referred me to a local dealer.

The bad news:  When I tried to get details the Rad guy just quoted the website with words like hydraulic and ceramic.  When I asked for brake pad details he said they're not replaceable and I'd would need "a new fork assembly".  I'm not kidding!  I politely said he must be mistaken, can he please look into it and get back to me with details.
5 minutes later he phoned me back and said that the entire brake system is sold as one piece, calipers+cable+lever, and that the pads weren't replaceable, and would I like to order that as my backup spare (when all I really want is spare pads...)

I'm just shocked and frustrated at the lack of tech details for the new RR6 brakes and the knowledge/ability of the support guy or his database.

RadRover / Re: Battery charge port cover staying open

Don't just push it down.  Start from the hinge side and squeegee it closed with your thumb, as though you're trying to expel liquid underneath.

Might be the same as above, just another way to describe it.

Wow that's lame.  I ordered online, not in-store in San Diego.  Can't think of any reasonable reason why I got mine first.

Yes, 6+ ST charcoal.  Ordered September 5th, received September 30th (which coincidentally was the estimate also).

USA/California ( seems Canada supply is different, not sure where you are)
