I use an insulated battery cover for winter riding here in Vermont, which seems to give the battery a little more stamina in really cold weather.. It also keeps water and dirt off the tray. Is there any downside to using the insulated cover in warm weather? It's a bit of a pain to remove/reinstall.
I have never noticed my battery getting warm with use or charging So I don't think it would be an issue.
If the battery did give off heat it would be held in by the insulation of the cover.

On really hot days, you may want to leave it unzipped, but other than that you should be fine. If it's the silver/gray color like mine, it may actually protect it from the sun a bit.
