RadTrike / Re: A new trike
March 07, 2023, 09:45:39 PM
He loves it. He can?t ride a regular bike and the trike allows him to get out of the house. I wish they would have made it a 3 speed. You can?t pedal fast enough to keep up with the trike at full speed. So you can?t do traditional pedal assist at high speed. So it throttle only at those speeds.

Service & Repair / Air in my brake line
March 06, 2023, 08:55:43 PM
I took my new RadRover 6+ on it first ride and the rear brake went from working normally to having almost no effect. I did some research today and figured out that it is caused by air in the line. I don?t know if there is a problem that allowed air to enter the line or if it was improperly assembled. I?m wondering if I should take it into Rad or just bleed it and hope that fixes it.

It might be that Rad didn?t leave enough slack to use the riser. I don?t know if there is a different style riser that would allow me to raise it a little less.

I got a riser for my handlebar but I?m concerned about my cables and hydraulic lines being too tight. As I turn to the right the lines tighten up. It?s hard to tell if there is too much stress on them. I know I won?t turn the wheel 90 degrees while riding but could when handling the bike at other times. How can I tell if they are being stretched too much?

My brother placed his order and will pick up his new trike at the Berkeley store as soon as they get it assembled.

General Chat / Is it time for a Rad Trike section?

My brother wants to buy a Rad Trike. After looking at all the similar trikes that seem to only have a web site behind them he came around to Rad. Should we add them to the forum?

Service & Repair / Re: Chain lube
January 29, 2023, 09:35:16 PM
The assembly video didn?t mention lube so I assume they are prelubed. I figured I should make sure. I got an e bike because my knees don?t like to pedal. Therefore most of the strain is on the motor not the chain. All the same if I do pedal a little now and then I don?t want my chain to be rusted solid. Thanks.

Service & Repair / Chain lube

I?ve not seen any recommendations to lube the chains on my new RadRover or Expand 5. They look clean and dry. Is there some sort of dry lube on them?

If you going to use Flat Out don?t bother with Mr. Tuffys. You won?t need them and they may actually interfere with the sealing process.

I am amazed with Flat out. I used 16 Oz. In my 20? RRunner rear wheel and so far have survived 3 huge nail punctures. Just make sure to pull out the nails or whatever when the spot is facing down so it plugs fast.
Is that because of the built in flat protection in the RadRover tires?  I?ve seen other recommendations to use both flat out and Mr Tuffys.

Service & Repair / Choosing a tire pressure
January 23, 2023, 03:34:51 AM
I see that Rad recommends 20-30 lbs for my RadRover 6 plus. I?ve always filled my tires to the pressure shown on the sidewalls. I expect to be riding on streets, bike paths and light off road. I?m looking for advice on choosing a number that will best fit my needs. I plan to use Flat Out and Mr Tuffy tire liners. I want good traction mostly and of course a pressure that?s not likely to handle poorly or easily come off the bead. Then comfort after that. Any tips on choosing tire pressure?

I program my spot to request help from a few friends,  then notify them before I leave so they are aware and can coordinate a plan to pick me up.
All of that is for riding motorcycles in areas that do not have cell service.  I am not sure how that would work in an area without a road 🤣

I took my kayak into the National Forest a couple hours off the freeway to go fishing. My alternator died and so did my battery. I was able to communicate with my wife so she could bring me a new battery and I was able to get back home with her help. My InReach was indispensable for that kind of trip. But as you said, ?How would that work without a road?. Maybe I can figure out a way to tow one bike with the other and hope they don?t ever both break down together.

If you are really concerned get an In Reach ,Spot , or some other emergency gps device.
I have a spot which allows me to send a preprogrammed message to someone.  Or for enough money you can text whatever whenever
I?ve been carrying InReach/Spot for years when I was riding my ATV, backpacking or kayaking. I?d definitely use my InReach in case of an accident/injury or medical emergency. I?m not sure about non-emergency situations. I don?t imagine there is a AAA for bicycles that will ride out and tow me in. I?m guessing there might be a sheriff?s bike patrol that could come out assuming the trail doesn?t have room for a motor vehicle. If it?s just a mechanical problem, what are they going to do? I think it?s something I will have to consider carefully before going on a ride.

I?m thinking about what we would do if a controller went bad etc. I plan to use flat tire prevention and I can fix most mechanical malfunctions. If something in the electrical system fails I might be walking out.

It's now apparently fine to store your classified docs in your garage now too as well, so I wouldn't worry too much about bicycle nits.  Or, do what I did long ago and just move the hell out of CA to get away from all of it.

could be worse. you could be in a state where they want to take away the rights of anyone who isn't a straight white male Christian.
I don?t mind a little threadjack but a political topic like this is likely to be divisive. I got my throttle disconnect kit at the Berkeley Rad store and I didn?t even have to jaywalk.

Was it just two covers to protect the disconnected plugs??
Yes, at least that?s what I?m told. I didn?t open the package.
