RadWagon / Re: Bolton Ebikes 35amp controller
January 25, 2024, 05:48:10 AM
Installed Bolton Bikes (Now Area 13) model 35a controller w/ Color LCD8H controller upgrade two years ago on my RadWagon 4 with great success.  Doesn't take a Star Wars mounting bracket like I've read here, just a simple piece of ply wood, painted . . .  suits the new controller just fine.  Pay attention to mounting, it makes a difference as the cable lengths are tight.

Despite what I've read here, the controller does provide higher top end speed, from 20 to 24.4 MPH (not bad for my "RadDragon/nickname" station wagon).  And I'm a Clydesdale!

Despite what has been written, the new controller does have a tradeoff caveat (lower range as it sucks battery juice faster to service the 35 amp controllers).  I have two batteries so it's not a big issue, but caveat emptor.

Where the new controller steps up is in the bottom end torque and color display.  Factory fit RadWagon controller is undersized and a dog (understanding they want to save money).

Bolton Bikes upgrade has beautiful low end torque to get you out of the hole much quicker, to cruising speed.  That low end torque has its advantages grinding up hills as well.  Factory fit controller is an absolute slug climbing hills, this new upgrade takes that away.  Again, there is a trade off, it sucks battery life faster for lower range.

Can't say enough about the color LCD display, very easy on the eyes and easy to navigate.

I waited two years after I procured my RadDragon to install, until the warranty went void.  Rad Power will not warrant your bike if you upgrade add ons.  Understandably.

When I installed the upgrade, Bolton Bikes had disclaimers they had not had any feedback whether this upgrade will work on RadWagon.  I can confirm that the LCD8H is a must enhancement for your ride.

I turn heads on the bike trail.  Don't know if its because I'm hauling "ars" in a station wagon, or people looking at this Clydesdale screaming past them with ease.  In either event, do yourself a favor and upgrade with this controller 1 you are certain to have fun!  That's what its all about right?

Major mft. Defect issues with factory RadWagon 4 tires.  I?ve had (3) sidewall blowouts.  Don?t listen to their Technical Bulletin spin!  I had sidewall bead blowout @ 750 miles on first tire, the other two had consecutive blowouts back-to-back on short 20 mile ride.

Regardless of tire (smooth sidewall vs nursed sidewall),  they both have blowout issues.

Factory claims 45-60 PSI inflation, I keep mine @ 45 and it?s to much for this POS factory tire.

Rad Power had exclusive agreement with Vee Tire Co. (Atlanta, GA I think is their location).   VEE would not sell direct to Rad Power owner?s.  Been a very frustrating e-bike to date.  Mine has been sidelined for 7 months while Rad gets their act together, continually pushing out my corrective action date.

Finally source a replacement tire, VEE Tire Co. has their ?Vee Tire Speedster 22? X 3? Wire Performance E-Bike Tire that is the fix.  $80 @ BicycleBuys.com or $90 on Amazon.

Great tire & better tread pattern.

Toss the POS factory rubber rim liner & pay the $10 to get 22mm Velox Cloth Rim Liner.

A true fix from a disappointed customer.

I?ve since bought two other (non-Rad) e-bikes because of these nagging & lingering issues.  RIZE RX (the porche of e-bikes) & Fuell S2 (longest 250 mile rsnge 7 speed automatic e-bike in market).

Rad needs to step up!

Well, finally got my recall tires on my Radwagon 4 (installed by rad), and within 15 miles of riding the tire became un beaded in a 3 inch section and the tube blew. Not sure if this was an install error, or the recall tires are still crap.

So I am concerned that this problem will just persist and I am going to go ahead and do a motorcycle conversion.

For the tube have people been using a motorcycle tube with treaded stem? I am having a hard time finding a 2.75-18 tr-13 (rubber stem).

Thanks!

General Chat / RadWagon 4 2020 Custom Tires & Tubes
October 29, 2020, 10:04:29 AM
BUYER BE WARE!!!

After 300 miles on my new RadWagon 4, the inevitable flat tire came in play.  Shredded the inner tube.

This new ECO (engineering change order) design on 2020 RadWagon 4 has a new wheel set spec. 22" X 3.0 Tire & Tube.  Look on Rad's Web Site . . . this is a custom tire & tube.

Spent hours looking for replacement 22" X 3.0" spare tire and replacement tube, big no go.  Went back to Rad Power Customer Service, they admitted they do not carry the 22" X 3" tires or tubes to date.  Nothing in the pipeline from their fulfillment center in the works.

DOES ANYONE HAVE A RESOURCE FOR 22" x 3" INNER TUBES?  I NEED ONE BADLY.  HECK, I'LL BUY 5.  AND IF YOU HAVE THE LIKE FOR SPARE TIRE, I'LL GET ONE OF THOSE TOO TO KEEP IN MY STORES.

UPDATE: Found the battery cradle, Rad Technical Support came thru.  Their Customer Service claimed they do not carry replacement cradles, Technical Support proved they do.  $15.00 + $5.00 shipping.  Takes 4-8 days to get a reply from Rad CS & T/S.

Looking for a battery cradle to securely mount & lock backup Battery on my RadWagon rack.

Rad Power Bikes doesn't support replacement of the battery base/cradle (completely alloof why a supplier won't support ALL components on their bike?). Frustrating!

If you know of a source, please share.
