RadMini / Mini 4 tire recommendation
March 08, 2024, 06:34:32 AM
I have the Cst big boat tires now. I was never real confident with them off pavement. I recently bought a lighter bike for short trips because the Mini is a pain to get out of the house. My Gotrax came with a knobby tire that has been awesome on grass and gravel. Noise doesn't bother me and a little range loss is no big deal.
Does anyone have any advice or recommendations for something more aggressive?

General Chat / Rad

So 2 years into my Mini.
Unless you are mechanically  inclined, Rad is a bad buy.
I recently bought 3 bikes in the past year 2 for gifts  one amazing choice I took on Amazon.
One I gifted got hit by a car.
I contacted Lectric for prices  free

General Chat / First ride in 6 weeks
October 25, 2022, 07:35:02 AM
I had tried a ride a few weeks ago, no luck. My leg that was injured won't take the weight to let me swing other leg over the saddle. I tried getting on from the other side , no way.

My choice was to lower the seat all the way down, could not pedal with any comfort.  I decided to buy a dropper post, best invention to help me get on the bike and then ride comfortably.

Muscle and tendon damage are probably long term.  It is not often we get a long stretch of 70 degree weather here in October.  I was so happy to get out !

Leg will not heal. My Mini was how I got around. No walking or riding  . LOOKING for better tire options.  The standard tires suck.

5 crashes so far.

General Chat / Boredom
September 24, 2022, 02:52:54 PM
So I lead a pretty simple life, a little over a year ago I found out driving was not going well.
I sold my cars and motorcycle.  Checking  my blind spot almost made me pass out.
I found I could still skateboard and ride my bike.
Zoom ahead 1 year, I bought my Rad. Freedom came back.now with my injury no riding.
The boredom is killing me. I can walk slow. I had to walk about 2 miles to get food today.
Everyone I helped for yea6is too busy now. I will be able to lift my leg again  , when the calls come in for help , not me.
Sorry to vent, just so bored.

General Chat / Steering damper ?
September 17, 2022, 09:46:23 AM
I am wondering if there is anything that would work to limit my Mini 4 handlebar from doing a complete 360.
I have had front end washout on my mountain bikes many times, usually ended up with catching it.
Last week I had my worse wreck ever. The city repaired a broken water main and never cleaned the loose sand up, I cleaned my driveway and in front of my house. , while pulling out of my drive I applied the brakes to slow for a car, I was just at a roll.
I hit my brakes, front tire broke loose, got my leg down but maybe because of the slope and bike weight I couldn't stop the bars from a total spin, I guess once the cables wrapped it stopped.
Down I went, foot is now stuck in rear spokes twisted in a way I can't get out from under it..
Luckily a neighbor saw me a few minutes later and came to help. I asked him to rotate the back wheel to loosen my foot, he said no I have to call EMS , I asked why ? Reply was you are bleeding  bad.
Somehow during the fall the entire left brake lever managed to puncture my groin area, close call with a certain body part I would like to keep.
Paramedics arrive lever was in a high risk area , discussion was possibly transporting me and the bike together.  Luckily the bleeding was worsening so they had to cut my belt , shorts, underwear off, I did explain I just took a shower so that may explain the shrinkage factor of a certain part.
So other having to be naked in front of the neighborhood, the lever slipped out.
No stitches could be done, wound has to stay open and packed daily for awhile.  Only a little over a day in the hospital, managed to go from walker to cane in about a week.
Sorry for the long story . I was just thinking if I had a way that I could stop the bars from doing a total spin I probably could have caught the fall. Maybe a stabilizer, stop or damper.  Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

Service & Repair / Display
July 10, 2022, 09:14:47 AM
So I take my Mini 4 out today, the display lost my odometer miles, and when I turn the bike off the display is still on with no information showing.
I will call Rad tomorrow. Hoping for some knowledge here, last time I called them video almost killed me, ride at 20,lean over the handlebar and record the noise.

General Chat / Hit and almost run

So I decided to take the bike to go see fireworks  at Greenfield village. I am going with the flow of traffic,  a lady with a stroller needs to cross, the officer had traffic stopped in the other direction.
The man behind me is now blowing his horn at me, I wave , only one second. Not good enough,  he decided hitting a bike gently was a good idea, not good.
I am old, fat, and ugly.I decided it's go time.  He a third of my age, the officer heard everything.
Short story long, no damages,  the fuse in this world gets shorter every day. Be safe, love what you see, forgive what you hate.

General Chat / Getting old
June 26, 2022, 01:03:57 PM
I have a Mini 4 , a little over 600 hundred miles since I got it in the fall of last year, Michigan weather shut me down for awhile.
I have never felt safe on it, balancing is hard at low speeds.  So I took my 25 year old Trek out today,  no problems with balancing, is it larger tires and a gyroscope effect that helps.

I do like my Mini, any low speed turns are not good.

General Chat / Squirrels
June 08, 2022, 07:07:27 AM
I had my Huskie escape a couple days ago, slipped out of his collar, I thought short walk no harness, wrong.. He was found about 4 miles away,  micro chip saved us.
I no longer drive due to medical issues, so I got on my Rad mini 4, 52 miles on past 1, 2 hour charge another's 40.

My question is why are squirrels attracted to the sound, I know dogs like the high pitch motor noise.  I live in a squirrel rich area my horn, bell do not intimate them.

I left my doors open so I woke up to no dog, a squirrel  on my table, they are pretty friendly,  2 bites got him out.

RadMini / Mini 4 accessories
May 20, 2022, 09:05:09 AM
Excuse my lack of proper use of the English language.

I have had my bike for about 10 months and have bought many things,  my first buy was the bike, bad decision on the model I chose, I bought the mini 4 , not the step thru out of vanity because of color and not wanting a girls bike.

All wrong,  60 years old and getting on the bike did not work out well, 4 falls, one crash.  All falls getting on it, get a step thur..
The good things I bought were a K- bro handle bar attachment for the accessories I wanted, soI could mount things, Lsan headlight, awesome, Rad rack useless, Clover made .milk crate,  great, Hanfy mirror bad, cheap horn, great, Gub phone holder bad,, cheap  top bar bag great  .

General Chat / Rad alternative
May 06, 2022, 12:21:36 PM
So I let my friend drive my mini 4, bad move, she wants one.
I realized not a bike to own if you're not mechanically inclined. My 30 year old Trek mountain bike never needs anything,  6000 miles
So any experience with Aveton bikes?,
we only have a couple places that sells ebikes around here.

She is not mechanically inclined, unfortunately due to ride and fix Rad is not a option.

General Chat / Cheap tire pump
April 25, 2022, 11:25:11 AM
I was at Harbor Freight to get a cargo net for my rear rack. My tire pump finally  died after about 30 years.  I saw one there on clearance and thought for 8 bucks I will try it.,
I don't know about its durability, but on my first use it worked better than my old one ever did, the gauge was even accurate.
They are a clearance item so limited stock, I am going to buy another for a spare.
